TIP: as we know, the cost of the box is not quite cheap and I do not advise you to save on the quality of oil. Of course, if there is an opportunity, you can order the original oil for the BMW box, but I bought the MOBIL LT 71141 oil, the oil is not bad, unlike MOTTUL, it can be seen from the structure. MOBIL LT 71141 oil has an orange tint and is rather thick, MOTTUL oil is yellow and liquid, it reminded me of sunflower oil)) and is twice cheaper per liter. The filter was also replaced, the crankcase was put on a sealant.

Oil was poured with the engine turned off, then, after filling to a certain level, the engine was started so that the oil began to spill over the box, put on D, then on P and 7L. ended up inside my box.

After replacing the improvements, if I honestly did not feel it, the box did not kick before the replacement, it switched smoothly, of course, it pleases that there is now new oil in the box, and the service life of my tiptronic should last a long time.

Hello everyone. Having traveled for a while, I found some speed floating in fifth gear in the 2000-2500 range. Having studied the information, I found out that there are two main reasons for this. Torque converter lock-up or converter lock-up valve. I decided to go the less costly way - to replace the valve and at the same time replace the oil completely. I ordered the valve itself, a filter gasket and 10L oil. The photo will be a little. The first thing that surprised me was that I drained the oil, the consistency is like hypoid, that is, very thick and black, the smell is like a regular transmission. Compared to the smell of oil from a canister, nothing to do. By outward signs, no one climbed into the box before me. Removing the pallet I expected to see pieces of friction clutches and a bunch of shavings, the span, the pallet is clean, there is a thin pasty coating on the magnets. By the way, unscrewing the pallet bolts, I immediately decided that I would change them to stainless steel bolts. For two reasons. The first - I don't see any point in overpaying for the original bolts, the second - there will be no rust, which will not cause problems with the next oil change. I loosened all the bolts, then unscrewed the bolts in the middle, and put a jack under the plate, the plate is not light and it is not very convenient to keep it lying down. After unscrewing all the bolts, I slightly released the jack and disconnected the wires. Voila, the block in hand. The block inside was not critically dirty. I washed everything, valves, springs. In general, I disassembled the block to a screw. Before installing, I decided to flush the system from the old oil. I did it like this - I disconnected the tubes from the box, connected the supply hose to one, threw the hose from the second into the basin. Studying the flushing methods, I learned that gasoline can be used for flushing. I washed it with them. Flushing is similar to flushing the nozzles. Pump in a bucket with gasoline hose on the highway. I used a container, injected air up to 2 atm. I washed it in 4 stages, let the gasoline through the system, washed out all the dirt, then leaving the gasoline in the system, I waited 20 minutes and repeated the procedure. Until the drip is clean. Then everything is the same in the opposite direction. Then he flushed the system with clean oil. Well, then everything is simple, the block, the filter, the pan in place. I put the pallet in order, could not resist, sandblasted it and painted it with heat-resistant paint. I filled in oil and pumped it over. refilled, rode, refilled a little more. In general, it took all 10 liters. Considering the volume of the system is 9.5, well, half a liter was spent on flushing after gasoline. The effect after replacement is the box and before that worked smoothly, so I did not notice any changes. The main reason for which he started all this is gone. Now, when driving in fifth gear, the revolutions do not fail. In addition to the valve, oil, calibrating and filter, it was bought - stainless steel bolts m6x25 with a hex head with a washer and a grover. Carb cleaner - 6 cans.

BMW E39 is the fourth generation of cars from the "fifth series", produced by the BMW concern since 1972. In terms of mass, the fifth series is in second place among all cars of this brand. A successful oil change does not require a large number of tools. The following list is needed here:

  • Drain plug opening tool. And here there is one problem - depending on the type of gearbox, the type of plug also differs (depending on the year of manufacture and the model of the gearbox). Therefore, a box or open-end wrench, a star screwdriver (TORX version) or a socket wrench can be useful. First stage

First stage - used oil drain out of the box itself. The crankcase protection is removed first. It is recommended to rinse it and treat the bolts with WD-40 to remove rust and scale. By the way, it is worth unscrewing them carefully so as not to damage the silumin brackets. The plastic pallet is also removed. Next, the lower part of the gearbox is cleaned. Remove dirt and rust as well as clean all bolts and plugs. This is where the WD-40 comes in handy again.

Now we need to find the drain plug. Its location is indicated in the service book, which is recommended to always be kept nearby. Look for the drain plug from the bottom, on the gearbox oil pan. The plug is unscrewed, and the liquid is drained into a previously prepared container. Then the plug is screwed back on. But this is not a complete drain of oil from the automatic transmission on the BMW E39 - you still need to remove the sump and replace the filter. The process looks like this:

Second phase

Finding the shavings is not difficult - it sticks to magnets, and looks like a paste of a dark, black-brown hue. In advanced cases, metal "hedgehogs" are formed on the magnets. They must be removed, the used oil must be discarded, and the sump must be thoroughly rinsed. A number of experienced drivers recommend flushing the sump with gasoline. But this is not a good idea. Workshop workers believe that special cleaning agents should be used.

  • The oil supply hose is removed from the branch pipe. It must be carefully removed to the side without damaging it.
  • Then another hose of a suitable size is put on the nipple. Its other end is directed into an empty container to drain the used oil.
  • The assistant is given a signal to start the engine. The gearshift lever must be in neutral. After 1-2 seconds, dirty oil will come out of the hose. Leak out at least 2-3 liters. The flow weakens - the motor is shut off. Important to remember: Automatic transmission should not work in oil starvation mode! In such a mode, wear increases, parts overheat, which, in turn, will lead to premature repairs.
  • The filler plug is unscrewed and the automatic transmission is filled with oil approximately to the level of the lower edge of the filler hole. The plug is screwed on.
  • The procedure is repeated with starting the engine and cleaning through the heat exchanger. This should be repeated until relatively clean oil is poured. It is worth remembering that the lubricant is bought with the expectation of such a cleaning of the gearbox. But it is not recommended to get too carried away with flushing, otherwise there will be no lubricant left to fill the gearbox.
  • The last stage - the heat exchanger hoses are installed in place.

In general, the process is complete. But there are a number of recommendations related to oil change. Immediately after replacement, it is advisable to drive at least 50 km in a soft, break-in mode. It is worth remembering: a hard operating mode can provoke an emergency stop. Moreover, there is a chance that you will have to reset the emergency program already in the official service.
