Tires for asphalt and priming. Summer tires for dirt roads Summer tires for asphalt and dirt roads

the main / About cars

There is very little time left before winter, so it is time for every motorist to think about winter tires. After all, it is on the selected type of rubber that with the onset of cold weather will depend not only on the safety of the driver in icy conditions and heavy precipitation, but also on comfortable driving on domestic roads. Considering many important factors, we have compiled a rating of the best winter tires 2020 for Russian roads.

Before settling on any particular brand, you first need to understand the type that is right for your situation.
There can be two varieties:

  • Studded. Suitable for areas where the driver needs to face ice and heavy rain on a regular basis in winter. The spikes on the tires are designed to cut into the road surface and thus allow the driver to avoid slipping. The disadvantage of these tires is that they are very damaging to the asphalt.
  • Frictional or Velcro. They do not have studs, but they are distinguished by greater siping of the tread blocks. Adhesion to dry asphalt with Velcro is worse than spiked rubber.

Other selection criteria

There are some important tips that drivers shouldn't forget:

  • If a driver decides to give preference to all-season Russian R14 tires, instead of getting even inexpensive winter tires, he must understand that such a decision can be very risky. Universal tires for all seasons harden faster, as they are not made of such flexible rubber as winter tires. Subsequently, "all-season" badly adhered to the road surface, and driving on ice or snow will be more difficult.
  • In order not to get confused when choosing, you need to pay attention to the designations that are on the side of the tire. They will help you determine which weather conditions are optimal for a given tire type.
  • It is necessary to pay attention to the tests and reviews of experienced motorists, they carry out tests for rubber in various areas, including on wet and dry asphalt. The tests are characterized by the measurement of acceleration, fuel consumption and noise. The braking properties and comfort conditions for a particular type of tire are also determined.

Winter roads

Before thinking about which company is better to choose tires for the winter season, you need to decide what type of roads prevails in the area where the car is constantly located, for example, icy or snowy asphalt, slush or ordinary dry surface.

If rubber is selected for a car that constantly drives in a mild winter in a city where road services work stably and well, then frictional ones will come in handy, driving with them will be more comfortable, and the road surface is more intact.

But in northern winter conditions, with poorly cleaned roads and frequent driving on unpaved and off-road surfaces, it is better to stop your choice on rubber with spikes, and of the best quality, because the safety and ease of use of the vehicle depend on it.

Driving style

For drivers who prefer a calm, slow ride, friction tires are suitable, but for reckless drivers with an aggressive driving style, frequent abrupt starts and choosing speed modes, it is definitely better to take studded tires.

Experience

Beginners driving better take a closer look at tires with spikes, they are safer and will help to avoid many critical situations on the road. And for drivers who are confident in their professionalism with good driving experience, Velcro will be just right.

Standard size

After the type of tires you need is determined, you need to start choosing the size for your car and wheels. In order not to guess for a long time, you can use the recommendations of the manufacturers, they are usually displayed on the tires themselves next to the indices.

Indexes

There are two indices that you need to determine for yourself before buying winter tires.

  • Speed index. For each type of tire, it is determined at the test drive stage and later marked on the rubber itself. This is a parameter of the maximum permissible speed limit to ensure safety and gentle operation. If, while driving, the speed is exceeded above the parameter value, there is a risk of an accident, as well as early wear and deformation of the tires.

The speed indices assigned to different types of rubber can be as follows:

  • T (up to 190 km / h) - typical for studded tires.

All other indices are assigned, as a rule, to different types of Velcro:

  • S - up to 180 km / h;
  • R - up to 170 km / h;
  • Q - up to 160 km / h;
  • H - up to 210 km / h;
  • V - up to 240 km / h;
  • W - up to 270 km / h.
  1. Next to the first index, an index is usually indicated, which determines the permissible load. It is calculated based on the maximum possible weight of the car. For passenger cars, this figure is not as important as for crossovers or SUVs.

By price

When all the other selection criteria are determined, you can pay attention to the cost of the most suitable brand in all respects.

Sales statistics

According to the indicators of previous years, it can be seen that motorists for the winter period largely give preference to studded models - almost 75%. Velcro usually accounts for about a quarter of total sales annually.

average price

Popular models of winter tires can be divided into three classes according to pricing policy:

  1. Budgetary - inexpensive, with different functionality and level of quality, can do within:
  • R14 up to RUB 2500;
  • R15 up to 3000 rubles;
  • R16 up to 4000 rubles;
  • R17 up to RUB 6000
  1. Middle class. Here, the minimum cost starts from 3000 rubles and can go up to 8000 rubles.
  2. Premium class - these are the most expensive and high-quality tires from well-known brands, the range of their pricing policy can be in the range of 4000-10000 rubles. the country and the popularity of the manufacturer's models are affected.

A detailed video review of this rubber:

Which winter tires have you chosen?

With the arrival of heat, the question of buying good summer tires becomes urgent. And since the cost of even the most budgetary kit will require considerable investment, it makes sense to seriously approach the choice of a new rubber.

How to determine which summer tires are best

It is important to be aware of the fact that there is no single recipe for choosing the perfect tires. After all, cars are operated in various climatic conditions: for some, the average air temperature from April to October is 20ºC, while for others it is only 12ºC; somewhere all summer it is cloudy, it often rains, and somewhere during the months not a drop will fall.

Similarly, the choice is influenced by such moments as the condition of the roads, the degree of risk of getting the wheel into a hole with sharp edges, or hitting the curb. It also matters how often the vehicle conquers off-road sections, travels on unpaved, gravel roads, etc. In addition, the cost will play an important role in the purchase of summer tires.

We look at the protector

There are three main groups of mass passenger car tire treads:

  • Non-directional drawing. It is also called classic, since this format was previously the main one on the market. This protector is versatile, it makes no difference in which direction the car is moving. Accordingly, there are no requirements for observance of the orientation when installing the wheel. The tires cope well with dirt roads, mud, but have a weak point in the form of a tendency to aquaplaning and noise. As a rule, the non-directional pattern is used in the development of budget tire models.

  • Directional drawing. Has a special marking indicating the direction of rotation. A clear plus is the effective removal of road water along the grooves from the contact zone. The group is divided into two subgroups: symmetrical directional pattern and asymmetric directional pattern. In any case, it is a good choice for highway driving: acoustic comfort, fuel efficiency, straight line stability.
  • Asymmetrical non-directional pattern. Usually the outer part of the tread is stiffened. Designed for extreme driving conditions, offering high stability under high side loads.

The most inexpensive models for Russian roads: Cordiant, Nordman, etc.

When choosing a set of summer tires, many motorists first of all pay attention to the price, and only then to the characteristics of the products. However, do not think that in the low-cost segment everything is so bad with the ability to keep the car on the road.

Cordiant Sport 3 (Russia), from 2300 rub. for dimension 195/65 R15

The tread has an asymmetric non-directional pattern with an abundance of grooves to drain water from the contact area (WET-COR technology), which is a good anti-aquaplaning feature. Also implemented is the proprietary DRY-COR technology, which prevents the tires from slipping and deforming in corners. There are nine sizes to choose from for R15 and R16.

Nordman SX (Russia), from 2000 rubles. for dimension 185/60 R14

A group of specialists from Finland and the Amtel company worked on the model. The tread is asymmetrical, a network of grooves is provided for water drainage. According to consumer reviews, the tire is moderately quiet, behaves well on the ground, and is stable at high speeds. As the numbers on the center rib wear off, the driver can judge the condition of the tread. At the same time, many people note the hardness of the rubber compound, increased wear (with intensive driving, only two seasons last), as well as the destruction of individual pieces of the tread. The extensive range of sizes includes popular options for wheels ranging from 13 to 18 inches.

Formula Energy (Italy), from 2600 rub. for dimension 185/65 R15

The tire was developed by Italian specialists Pirelli, it is characterized by a low level of internal noise (1 dB), good stability on a straight line and a reduced weight (on average by 10%). The tread has an asymmetrical pattern. According to the manufacturer, this is a summer model for sports cars (speed index: from T (190 km / h) to Y (300 km / h). Among the main complaints caused by the model from drivers, it is worth noting a weak grip in corners.

Yokohama Bluearth (Japan), from 2900 rub. for dimension 205/55 R16

In terms of their characteristics, the tires are not inferior to the products of the Bridgestone brand, but at the same time they are 15-20% cheaper. The model is equipped with a symmetrical non-directional tread and demonstrates high stability when shifting on a wet track. Experts also note excellent braking performance indicators. Another pleasant thing is low fuel consumption. Available in sizes from R13 to R16. Some drivers complain about the excessive rigidity during the tire break-in phase.

Trying to compare good firms in terms of quality and price

The middle and upper price ranges are mainly occupied by the products of world famous brands. The top three are traditionally held by the following brands: Goodyear, Michelin and Bridgestone. Nokian catches up with them by leaps and bounds.

Michelin Primacy 3 (France), from 3800 rub. for dimension 205/55 R16

The tires are sharpened for the reference behavior on dry asphalt and on a wet road with puddles, they are distinguished by excellent performance in the context of the braking distance, they are not prone to aquaplaning. The presence of five longitudinal ribs provides good stability on a straight line. Another advantage of the tire is its unique rubber compound. The consumer gets a quiet, comfortable and durable rubber. The only drawback is the thin sidewalls.

Nokian Hakka Blue (Finland), from 5100 rub. per dimension 215/60 R16

Finnish tire, perfectly adapted for Russian operating conditions. Among the features of the products should be highlighted: a unique system of sipes Dry Touch Suction Sipe for suction and effective drainage of water in the contact area, benchmarks for braking, maneuvering and straight-line motion at high speed. An added bonus of the Hakka Blue is the best-in-class efficiency ratio. There are radii from 15 to 18 inches.

The optimal brand of summer tires for Ford Focus 2

On Ford Focus 2, especially thrifty owners prefer to buy budget tires Amtel Planet 195/65 R15 (1800 rubles): symmetrical directional tread pattern; a trade-off between cost, handling and braking performance. In search of better tire performance, it is better to take a closer look at the Hankook K115 Ventus Prime 2 205/55 R16 (RUB 3700), which are distinguished by an asymmetric tread pattern, good behavior on both dry and wet tracks, and excellent acoustic comfort.

What to choose on Renault Logan: owner reviews

For the "fourteenth" diameter, Renault Logan owners often recommend domestic tires Kama Euro 129 175/70 R14. Of the product features, it is worth highlighting the budget cost (1300 rubles), coupled with good acoustic comfort and resistance to aquaplaning. Of the more expensive options, for configurations with 15-inch wheels, Bridgestone Turanza T001 195/60 R15 tires are popular (speed index: V - up to 240 km / h). In their asset: low rolling resistance, uniform tread wear, asymmetric pattern with good resistance to aquaplaning.

Which manufacturer's tires are better to buy on Prioru in 2016

Among Prior owners, both inexpensive domestic products are in demand, for example, Amtel Planet DC 185/65 R14 (1800 rubles) or Cordiant Standard RG1 185/65 R14 (1900 rubles), and tires of foreign brands. For example, the Japanese Yokohama A.Drive AA01 185/65 R14 (2200 rubles) differs from its competitors in its unique Slim Long tread and a universal chemical composition that retains its effectiveness both in the rain and in the scorching heat.

Foreword

It so happened that on our site there were two articles of similar topics. Therefore, we decided to combine these two articles into one.

Article 1. Choosing tires for the summer

Changing winter tires to summer models is a must for every car. This is due to elementary safety rules and correct
operation of the machine. But how to choose the right summer tires for Russian roads and what parameters should you focus on in the first place? To solve these issues, it is necessary to understand in detail the classification and consider the characteristics of popular tire models.

How to choose tires for your car for the summer?

The defining parameters of the choice are the brand of the car, its weight and operating conditions. For the 2016 summer season, manufacturers offer a number of new models and time-tested classic tire options.

The main differences between winter and summer models are the types of protectors. They determine the quality of tire adhesion to the road surface and reduce the influence of external factors - moisture, dust, sand, gravel, etc. Therefore, before deciding which tires are best to choose, you should study the types of treads:

The next group of factors is the technical qualities of summer tires. They indicate the maximum load on the structure, as well as speed limits:

In addition to these indicators, you must pay attention to the additional designations on the tires and be able to read the full marking. Additionally, it is recommended to choose models that are wider than those of the winter options.

The best summer tires of 2016, their rating. We draw conclusions from the magazine "Behind the wheel"

The official publication of the rating of tires for passenger cars by the magazine "Za Rulem" in professional circles caused a lot of confusion. This is due to the fact that the test results of the well-known Nokian trademark were distorted. The official winner according to the results of the domestic publication was the model "Nokian Hakka Green 2". But is it really so?

To compare the test results, you can refer to similar foreign publications - Autonavigator, ADAC, AutoBild, Vi Bilagare. Almost all of them gave preference to other manufacturers. The difference between the choices is within the margin of error.

Nokian Hakka Green 2

These tires are designed to fit on mid-size and small cars. In addition to preventing the effect of aquaplaning, it has a positive effect on reducing fuel consumption.

However, despite the positive reviews of domestic publications, Finnish experts from Vi Bilagare ranked it only the penultimate place in their ranking. This is mainly due to a decrease in the performance and technical qualities of the model when tested on a dry surface.

Continental ContiPremiumContact 5

This model is the flagship of the company. In the process of its development, the latest technological innovations were used. In particular, macroblocks, due to which the contact patch of the tire with the road is significantly increased.

As a result of the tests, the tires performed well on dry asphalt, forming a minimum braking distance. On the highway, the results were no worse. They lost ground a bit during the tests on wet surfaces. As a result: Vi Bilagare - 1st place; ADAC - 2nd. In the rating of the magazine "Za Rulem", this model of summer tires of the 2016 season only got the 6th position.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance

The tires have perfect grip on wet surfaces. This is facilitated by the unique shape of the tread. Active braking technology, pioneered in this tire manufacturer, has resulted in better test results.

Edition tests: Vi Bilagare - 2nd line; Hungarian Autonavigator gave the tires 1st place. The magazine "Za Rulem" ranked them in the 2nd position of its rating.

As can be seen from the test results, the three leaders in world rankings differ from the published selection of summer tires in 2016 by the magazine "Za Rulem". This year, companies that specialize in the development and production of racing tires took the last positions in the TOPs. Among them are well-known brands - Yokoham Toyo.

Which tires are better to buy for the summer? Feedback from specialists 2016

Despite the authority of the described publications, summer tires for Russian roads must be chosen according to one more criterion - expert reviews. They will allow you to create an objective opinion about the quality and technical parameters of the model.

About Nokian Hakka Green 2

“The Nokian Hakka Green 2 came out just this year. In the previous version, I drove about 5000 km. The main problem was poor traction on the grass, which is a priority for Russian roads in the summer (or rather, their absence). Apparently, the manufacturer decided to take this nuance into account.

The new summer tires for 2016 have grousers. They are located in the lateral and central areas. A significant drawback from the previous model was removed in the design - dividing partitions in the center. They almost completely neutralized the expected effect of the lugs. This issue has now been resolved. But more truthful results can be expected at least by the middle of summer. "

Evgeniy, Moscow, 32 years old

“I decided to buy the Nokian Hakka Green 2 as summer tires. First I got acquainted with the test results from Za Rulem. After installation, they were tested in spring conditions. At first glance, the tires behave well - the braking distance has decreased, and you feel confident when cornering. Side hooks allow you to overcome slush, do not allow you to get stuck in the mud.

The only negative point is the relatively high noise level. But it is felt only when driving onto a dirt road. Most likely, it is associated with the tread pattern. But this is my subjective opinion. "

Roman, Kaluga, 28 years old

About Continental ContiPremiumContact 5

“I put a Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 on my Lancer 6. First impressions - summer tires are very quiet. They respond well to bends. When driving through puddles at 80 km / h, the effect of aquaplaning was not observed. I tried to accelerate to 100 km / h - the tires are helped by ABS. I can't say anything about wear yet - the mileage is too low.

Feel confident in a rut. When entering a 90-degree turn at speed, skid was not observed at all, they did not even squeak. "

Sergey, St. Petersburg, 38 years old

“Summer tires just fly away: yes, they are expensive, but at the same time the workmanship and reliability of the grip are at the highest level. I noticed that they are practically silent, they behave perfectly on a wet track.

However, after checking the emergency braking from 140 km / h to 0, I observed slight abrasions on the central part. I hope it will not have a big impact on further exploitation. "

Vladimir, Stavropol, 30 years old

About Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance

“Our company has purchased Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tires for service cars - Opel 'Vivaro'. Despite the soft surface, the grip is good and the noise is minimal. Have a positive effect on saving gasoline. On one of the cars, after 2000 runs, two small dimples appeared on the side of the tread. So far nothing has been done with them.

I was especially pleased with the braking distance. I had to make an emergency stop, as the tires in combination with ABS showed a good result "

Vitaly, Vladivostok, 27 years old

“Overall, the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance models are rated 4.5 out of 5. They ride well on wet and dry asphalt and are durable. I tried to ride on grass and ground - I'm happy with the result. During the season, not a single "bump" was "caught", although I often drove and not quite on the roads.

The disadvantage is that the noise level rises over time. And this was noted not only by me. "

Boris, Astrakhan. 42 years

Article 2. Which summer tires are best?

When to change your car for summer tires in 2016?

This question is relevant every year. But it will not be superfluous to analyze the details of the answer to this question, and for someone, perhaps, new facts will be discovered that will spill
light on the problem. Go! When to change tires for summer tires in 2016?

So, firstly, it is necessary to take into account the geographical location of the region. On the territory of the Russian Federation, winter comes unevenly, which means that you need to follow the forecasts of weather conditions.

Secondly, it is important to consider your travel geography. If you drive in a general stream through traffic jams and through central highways, there is every chance that the asphalt in those places is dry and summer tires will be in place here, as well as Velcro. If your trips cannot be foreseen and planned, do not rush to change your vehicle. In the courtyards, puddles are often covered with an ice crust; some sections of the road outside the city can also sin the same.

In addition, do not forget the main thing - it is better to change the rubber after the moment when the temperature of +5 degrees will be stable for several nights. It is with her that puddles remain puddles, and the properties of adhesion of summer rubber to the road are maximized.

Can you ride summer tires in winter?

After the past 2015, the answer to this question has become unambiguous. It is forbidden to ride on tires that do not correspond to the season of the season. It is important to note that, taking into account the peculiarities of the weather conditions in certain regions of Russia, the traffic police may increase the terms of using winter tires. It is unambiguously clear that it is not worth changing shoes after the end of the calendar winter on March 1.

But, on the other hand, there is no direct punishment for this offense. After all, only tires with a low residual tread height or the presence of different tires on the same axle will be unambiguously fined. And for using a car with summer tires in winter, a fine can be charged in the amount of 500 rubles. And also the inspector has the right to issue a warning. It all depends on the human factor.

As a result, we get a contradictory situation - if in winter you ride on summer tires with a tread depth that is adjusted to the norms for this type of car, the inspector will confirm this fact, but he will not write out a fine for summer tires in winter 2016.

However, the situation at the legislative level can change at any time.
Considering driving a car on summer tires in winter, it is worth remembering that it is dangerous. This is especially true for drivers with little experience in driving a vehicle. Also, in an emergency, besides yourself and your vehicle, you can harm other road users. Therefore, change your car on time with tires that are in good condition, and do not skimp on safety.

When the issues related to the operation of summer tires have become resolved, it is necessary to move on to the selection of the tires themselves.

Summer tires rating 2015 - 2016 published by the magazine "Za Rulem"

This publication presents tire models from the most popular manufacturers - Kama Euro and Cordiant, to top models from world firms - Michelin and Pirelli. Also on display were models from Goodyear, Nokian, Hankook, Continental, Goodyear, Toyo and Bridgerstone.

So, let's start looking at the main indicators. Let's start our consideration from the end, namely with the model Kama Euro 129.

The rubber was really created taking into account the roads in Russia - strong and with increased wear resistance. Hence, there are positive results when passing the track and a confident exit from there. But only the transition to a good asphalt pavement deteriorates the results. Excessive noise appears, with sharp maneuvers in emergency situations it does not behave in the best way. Hence the low score and the last place in the rating.

The only indisputable advantage that Kama Euro manages to keep is its pricing policy. A set of 4 tires is the most affordable of all those presented on the test.

Cordiant Sport 3- the next instance in this rating. The pricing policy of this manufacturer is close to the most affordable. Depending on the place of sale, prices are on par with Kama. This model is aimed at driving on an asphalt surface, which is additionally indicated to us by the Sport prefix and the appearance of the tread. From this, two negative points follow - pebbles often remain in the tread and add unpleasant sounds in motion, and when driving off-road, it is easy to sit down even in sand. According to the experts "Za Rulem", this is an example of an affordable model that does not surprise with its characteristics and is suitable for a measured movement of the average car owner.

Bridgestone Ecopia EP200
Is one of the most common models in the variety of the great tire manufacturer. By the way, they are produced in Thailand. When tested on test vehicles, increased fuel consumption was noticed, as well as low grip properties during sharp maneuvers in an emergency, both on dry and wet asphalt. Otherwise, when using these tires in urban areas without extreme loads, this is the most optimal ratio of price and balanced performance.

Toyo Proxes CF2
... Test drivers with this particular model have noted reduced fuel consumption. In addition, this is the most affordable copy with the inscription "Made in Japan". Otherwise, it shows excellent results on asphalt surfaces, but absolutely useless in off-road conditions and even sand.

Nokian Nordman SX
became a sensation in the price-quality category. The model shows excellent handling and lack of noise, as well as the absence of increased fuel consumption. There are practically no obvious flaws.

Hankook Ventus Prime 2... It was this instance that rediscovered the driver's properties of the car and was the first to please in all parameters of handling and comfort. Only the price can really upset, and their off-road operation, judging by the feedback from the owners, often led to damage.

Michelin primacy 3 opens the four winners. The model will delight you with precise handling, regardless of whether the asphalt is wet or dry on the road, as well as on all other points, including the absence of noise, reduced fuel consumption and ride comfort.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance- the model of the German tire manufacturer, which is the best (and even the leader of the test) showed handling on wet asphalt. And if you move the car on these tires on dry asphalt - there is something to worry about. The coupling properties are clearly out of order here. But all this can manifest itself only in extreme situations. With quiet driving in city traffic, you will get comfort for a very affordable price.

Nokian hakka blue
- the softest rubber that has shown balanced performance and comfort on all surfaces. Surprisingly, it combines excellent handling on all asphalt options.

And finally, the model of the Italian tire industry leader became the undisputed leader - Pirelli Cinturato P7... The model stands out for all test indicators, and also can please some sellers with a price tag.

Which summer tires are the best according to reviews?

By asking this question, a slightly different rating is drawn, in contrast to what is obtained from the testers of the magazine "Behind the wheel".

Almost unanimously all tire owners Nordman SX note their excellent performance when combined with an affordable price. Perhaps the latter factor is achieved by the transfer of its production to the territory of Russia.

  • “Used 195/65 / R15. Due to the presence of longitudinal grooves, they resist aquaplaning without problems. Not a single hernia for 30,000 km, where I caught 3 pieces on Barum. And even quieter are Kordiant and Barum Brilliantis - they were the ones before this model. When driving smoothly, first of all, on the highway, if judged by the wear indicator, it was erased by half. I am glad." Andrew

  • “I left for two seasons, I am satisfied with the tires! According to the rating in the magazine "Za Rulem", they are the ones who occupy the 1st place in the price-quality group, which is why they took them. Simply put, I advise! You can't find anything cheaper and with better characteristics! " Seryoga

  • “Unmatched rubber! I chose between her and the Chinese brand. As already understood, I preferred it, tk. psychologically not ready to trust Chinese brands. Rubber has shown itself in a year, be healthy - it cuts water at once, in turns on wet asphalt 100-120 km / h - easily (I'm afraid faster), in a straight line 160 - holds the road. " Vovchik

  • “Good road holding! In the rain, I have never felt avkaplaning, even when on the highway from a hill I drove into a huge kalyuzha at 120 km / h! Strong, I thought a couple of times that I would catch a hernia - but no, it survived. At the start, it hooks perfectly. We must try to get the sound of screeching! And turns are unusually confident, even when loading a car of 4 people + luggage. " Arthur

Also model from Michelin car owners liked it. Unfortunately, the price tag is not democratic for them, but the tires will please with performance characteristics.

Here are the words of the real owners of the Michelin Primacy 3:

  • “This rubber is quieter and softer than any Bridgestone and even softer than the Pilot. Hence the grip is different, and the inhibition. But all this will show up on the track. Nice business in the city and on the highway! Everything with her - handling, acoustic and other comfort! At first, the braking was not enough, but then I perfected this habit. I recently put wheels with this rubber for the third season. " Sanyok

  • “Rubber justifies the cost on all counts. For the sake of experiment, I wanted to put the wheels on a smaller diameter in order to achieve comfort and put rubber with a large profile. As a result, this Michelin was bought for R16 wheels. Glad like an elephant! The tires have proven themselves brilliantly in all conditions! Both in the city and outside the city, in places where no one has seen asphalt, the car drives very gently! The suspension tolerates bumps more calmly, and on the track I hear only a breeze, because the noise from it is minimal! From the first days, as Primacy 3 shod, I instantly noticed that the car began to brake much more confidently. Compared to Continental Sport, this Michelin is better in all respects! " Toha

  • “Quiet. Soft. Excellent road holding under any weather conditions. I did not find any flaws. " Alexander

And if to the reviews about the question "Which summer tires are better?" add wheel diameter by 16 inches?

The picture will be similar, because "Behind the wheel" tested tires on a golf-class car. And if the rubber is in the R15 dimension, all standard sizes and R16 are necessarily produced. Such is the law for a tire company.

Here are examples of Michelin Primacy 3 reviews in R16 dimension:

  • “The driving style is calm. I drive Focus 2 on 205 R16 tires. I'm awfully glad, I like everything! During 2 seasons, I hit 10-15 thousand km, and the tires are in good condition. If you keep your driving style, you will have a couple more seasons. " Zheka

  • “Too soft and quiet, super road holding on dry asphalt! Of course, an acceptable price is also important, and with this she has complete order. And the tire fitter noted that he is well balanced. " Oleg

Concluding this article, we note that any rubber is good for a calm driving style and driving on flat surfaces. If you have deviations on one of these points - make a choice from all the variety on the market.

Fourteen-inch tires in Russia are gaining more and more popularity, and new items in this size appear much more often than 13-inch tires.

Today we are introducing you to the test results of summer tires of size 185 / 60R14 with speed index "H" (210 km / h). But first, a few words about the equipment, without which full-fledged tests would be impossible.

The magazine has written more than once about the features of light-alloy wheels (or rather wheels, but tradition!). Now let's look at them from the point of view of tire testers. For ten years now, we have been mounting tires for testing on aluminum alloy rims. First produced by K & K, then by Vikom, and now RW brand wheels are in our field of vision. But why do we prefer light-alloy ones?

Try to mount-unmount the tire several times on a regular steel rim. Even on professional tire changers, scratches on the rim edges cannot be avoided. Over time, these places will be decorated with corrosion, and every year or two the discs will have to be cleaned, primed and painted.

The second reason: light-alloy wheels are made, as a rule, much more accurate, so with them there is less measurement error when testing tires.

The third reason: light-alloy wheels better dissipate heat from the brakes through the hub section - therefore, with repeated braking on the verge of skidding or using ABS, the results are more stable.

The next criterion is that the discs are more convenient for washing. It is one thing to wash four wheels, and quite another to wash sixty.

The fifth trick - we choose discs with a flat hub part or with the smallest wells for fastening bolts - otherwise it is inconvenient to bait them. And although we are now replacing the bolts with studs with nuts on the carrier vehicle, we still avoid deep wells.

Over the years of intensive use, we have not found any flaws in the K&K and Vicom drives. We hope that RW will also be at its best. In any case, there were no complaints about them at the first, summer stage.

The test methodology has also undergone minor changes. First, to the traditional braking with locked wheels (unfortunately, domestic cars are not yet equipped with ABS), we have added braking on the verge of skidding: on dry asphalt - from a speed of 100 km / h, on wet - from 80 km / h.

The second addition - at the request of readers, they introduced an assessment of the performance of tires on a dirt road. This indicator is not included in the overall standings, it serves only as additional information for those whose routes pass not only on asphalt.

The tests were carried out on a Kalina hatchback (VAZ-11193), which should go on sale this year.

The general impression of the move from 13 inches to 14 inches is that the handling has improved - it is no coincidence that its scores are generally higher than in last year's 175 / 75R13 tire test. However, there is also a minus - tires of an increased dimension are stiffer and noisier - the low (less energy-intensive) sidewall and a wide contact patch affect. However, it is thanks to the latter feature that braking on these tires is more effective.

Those who only plan to put 14 instead of 13 inches for the summer should keep in mind that they will pay for the improvement of grip with a decrease in comfort, first of all, in ride quality. In addition, tires and wheels "14" are significantly more expensive.

Let's summarize the results obtained and, on their basis, try to analyze the situation on the tire market. An interesting observation - Bridgestone is beginning to lag behind famous brands such as Michelin, Continental and Pirelli. Even "Yokohama" and "Toyo" are gradually overtaking the eminent compatriot. It is also obvious that the Finnish Nokian is moving to the forefront. Russian manufacturers are slowly but surely improving their summer products. Amtel is the leader in the home market.

Imported tires are mainly focused on cars with ABS, therefore they are less willing to brake with a skid. Nevertheless, there are those that effectively slow down in any way.

All tire manufacturers, including Russian ones, are fighting for the stability of grip properties and their proximity on dry and wet surfaces. But the achievements are not the same for everyone. There is one more trend noted last year. Improved grip on asphalt leads to deterioration on dirt roads and grass. Mushroom pickers, berry farmers and summer residents living in the outback should take a closer look at the tires of the "m + s" category.

Nokian NRHi ecosport

1st place

Manufacturer - Finland
922.1 points
Tread depth - 7.4-8.7 mm
Tire weight - 6.8 kg
Price in Moscow - 2600 rubles.
Value for money - 2.82

Finnish manufacturers of very good winter tires have achieved their goal] - 2590 rubles.
Value for money - 2.81

Summer Michelin just falls short of first place. It is surprisingly well balanced - no bright bursts, no obvious dips. Economy - excellent, in terms of comfort - the best (sharing this place with the "Bridge"). The handling is good on wet asphalt, and even better on dry! Exchange rate stability - no comments. The brakes are especially good on wet, although dry is great - but here and there on the verge of a block. Alas, the ABS-oriented tires are a weak link by Russian standards! Especially sharply they break into a block in the most innocuous situation - on dry asphalt. The primer, as for Pirelli, is allowed in limited doses.
Excellent brakes on the verge of blocking, a complex of lateral grip properties and driving characteristics, high efficiency and comfort.
Weak skid braking.
Highly recommended for asphalt roads for those who like comfortable and economical driving. The brakes are most effective with ABS.

Pirelli P6

3rd place

Manufacturer - Spain
918.5 points
Tread depth - 8.5 mm
Tire weight - 7.5 kg
Price in Moscow - 2500 rubles.
Value for money - 2.72

Like Yokohama, Pirelli gravitates towards sports.
For such tires, efficiency is not the main thing, apparently because here they run in the middle peasants.
Ride and noise are also sacrificed for handling and directional stability. The record holder for speed on the "rearrangement". The difference from Yokohama is that the grip properties and behavior are more stable, regardless of the condition of the coating.
The brakes are excellent on the verge of blocking, although having slipped into a slip, they stop the car well. It is noteworthy that the blocking edge feels very good on dry and wet asphalt.
The deep tread will provide long-term stability of performance parameters.
You can move on the primer, but carefully and in the absence of rain.
The best brakes on the verge of slipping, excellent handling and directional stability on any surface.
Low comfort.
We strongly recommend fans of a sporty driving style on asphalt in any weather.

Continental ContiEcoContact 3

4th place

Manufacturer - Germany
911.3 points
Tire weight - 6.9 kg
Price in Moscow - 2300 rubles.
Value for money - 2.52

"Eco Conti" is not particularly economical, although in last year's test the same tires in the 13-inch version were in the lead here, and the overall results were better.
In terms of comfort, "Conti" are very similar to "Toyo". Small remarks only on the smoothness of the course.
There are no complaints about controllability. "Kalina" clearly performs the "rearrangement". True, on wet asphalt there is a little lack of information content - only for this reason they could not develop a higher speed.
The brakes are great! The best in sliding, but on the verge of skidding, they are very few.
The primer is not for these tires, good asphalt is more suitable for them.
The best in skid braking on any asphalt, very good and on the edge, good handling and directional stability.
Small remarks on the smoothness of the ride.
Especially recommended for asphalt roads with different driving styles.

Yokohama A539

5th place

Manufacturer - Japan
908.8 points
Tire weight - 7.4 kg
Price in Moscow - RUB 2395 *
Value for money - 2.64
Features - asymmetric tread pattern

А539 - tires of sport orientation. This is what you will get maximum pleasure from active driving! Somewhat more economical than Toyo, but lacking comfort - very hard, shaking and noisy. But all this can be forgiven for the excellent handling and excellent directional stability. Kalina performs the "rearrangement" on dry asphalt just fine! Even in sliding, the car is very predictable. The behavior on the wet is not so polished, but without remarks. The dry brakes are perhaps the best. It is noteworthy that any method of braking gives excellent results. True, on a wet one - only an average level.
There is some deterioration in grip on wet asphalt.
The best brakes on dry asphalt for any kind of braking, the best handling on dry asphalt, very good directional stability on a straight line.
Medium wet brakes, low comfort.
We especially recommend to fans of fast driving on dry asphalt.

Toyo Proxes CF 1

6th place

Manufacturer - Japan
903.3 points
Tread depth - 6.9-7.6 mm
Tire weight - 7.0 kg
Price in Moscow - 1920 rubles.
Value for money - 2.13
Features - asymmetric tread pattern

Unlike Bridgestone, these "Japanese" crossed the 900-point threshold - an excellent result for the "second line" brand.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the Toyo is average, and in terms of comfort it is similar to the Kleber (the Japanese seemed quieter).
The handling is good and stable on any surface. The brakes on a wet one are even slightly better than on a dry one (on the "rearrangement" the same alignment), and the spread with different methods of braking is less than that of the "Bridgestone".
In general, the tires are fairly flat, without dips or splashes.
We advise you to go down to the dirt road, as well as on "Kleber", only where there are no steep climbs and humidity.
Best wet brakes with locked wheels, very good on any surface when braking on the edge, handling is good and stable on any surface.
Modest runout.
Highly recommended as an all-weather tire for good asphalt roads.

Bridgestone Turanza GR-80

7th place

Manufacturer - Japan
898.8 points
Tread depth - 7.5 mm
Tire weight - 8.4 kg
Price in Moscow - 2490 * rubles.
Value for money - 2.77
Features - directional tread pattern

Something strange has been happening with the tires of this brand lately. And not only in formula 1. The most voracious and the most difficult. Perhaps they are very durable and are not afraid of road holes and rubbing against curbs. Nevertheless, in terms of comfort, one of the best. Handling on dry pavement is better than on wet pavement, where a quick turn of the steering wheel is fraught with wheel breakdown. The brakes on dry surfaces are noticeably better than on wet ones. The same pattern applies to the "rearrangement".
A feature of tires is a decrease in grip on wet asphalt.
Driving on a dirt road is acceptable but not desirable.
Excellent brakes on dry (on the verge), excellent handling on dry asphalt and good on wet, high level of comfort.
High fuel consumption at low and medium speeds.
Recommended for lovers of comfortable driving for asphalt roads.
* Manufacturer's recommended price.

Kleber Dynaxer HP 2

8th place

Manufacturer - France
882.2 points
Tread depth - 7.6 mm
Tire weight - 6.8 kg
Price in Moscow - 2200 rubles.
Value for money - 2.49

On smooth roads, small errors in ride smoothness and noise are unlikely to appear; on mediocre surfaces, the tires' low ability to smooth out small irregularities is annoying.
Handling without remarks and preferences for the surface - good and stable both on dry and wet.
The brakes are effective only on the edge of skid. On dry asphalt, its edge is felt very well, but on wet tires they break off abruptly, in addition, they noticeably lose in the braking distance to their closest competitors.
It is better not to move off the asphalt] - 2400 rubles.
Value for money - 2.72
Features - asymmetric tread pattern

These tires won't help you set a record in fuel economy, but they won't ruin your fuel economy either. The comfort is quite decent, especially the smoothness of the ride. Somewhat annoying squeak at the beginning of tire slippage when starting and braking. However, someone might like it. On flooded asphalt "Kalina" handles better than on wet or dry. Brakes on the verge of skidding on dry asphalt are the best, on wet in the same mode they are also good. By the way, the edge of wheel blocking on wet asphalt is felt just fine. Driving on a dirt road is possible only in dry weather.
The best brakes on the verge of a block on dry asphalt, very good on wet with any braking method, good ride, handling on wet.
Low complex of lateral grip properties and drift characteristics on dry asphalt, high rolling resistance at low speeds.
Recommended only for asphalt roads.

Amtel Planet 2P

10th place

Manufacturer - Russia
855 points
Tread depth - 7.7 mm
Tire weight - 7.0 kg
Price in Moscow - 1250 rubles.
Value for money - 1.46

Amtel is the leader among post-Soviet tires. What is remarkable about it?
In terms of fuel efficiency, it won over everyone, but this is where, apart from the good smoothness of the ride, the advantages of Amtel end. The noise rating is mediocre.
The handling is at a modest level, the speed at the "rearrangement" is low, on any surface the car behaves "smeared".
It is possible to brake reliably, as on the Kama, only on dry asphalt, and only with a skid. On a wet road, it is better to keep a larger distance, since you have to calculate the braking distance with a margin.
You can move off the asphalt only in dry weather.
The best in terms of economy, decent braking on dry asphalt (per block), good ride.
Bad brakes on the verge of slipping on any surface, and skidding on wet asphalt. Loud noise.
Recommended for those who love economical driving.

Kama Euro 224

11th place

Manufacturer - Russia (NkShZ)
842.4 points
Tread depth - 7.0-8.2 mm
Tire weight - 7.5 kg
Price in Moscow - 1250 rubles.
Value for money - 1.48

Nizhnekamsk also lack stars from the sky, although in the overall standings they are slightly ahead of MShZ and Rosava.
Efficiency "Euro" - at an average level, which can not be said about comfort - the tire is hard and noisy.
There are no serious complaints about handling, but there is no enthusiasm either. The lack of information content on the steering wheel did not allow achieving high speed on the "rearrangement".
The brakes are good only on dry asphalt, but only with skidding. Emergency braking without blocking gives a very modest result.
But in terms of cross-country ability - the best. Of course, they do not turn into an all-terrain vehicle "Kalina", but they go on a damp dirt road and on wet grass.
Good brakes on dry asphalt with locked wheels, good cross-country ability.
Poor brakes on wet under any type of braking and on dry braking on the verge of blocking, high rolling resistance, hard.
Recommended for all roads.

Rosava BC-49

12th place

Manufacturer - Ukraine
804.5 points
Tread depth - 6.4-6.9 mm
Tire weight - 7.4 kg
Price in Moscow - 950 rubles.
Value for money - 1.18

Summer "Rosava" for the first time participates in the tests of the ZR. The level of Ukrainian tires is quite modest - slightly better than Leader, but in general, both outsiders are on the same level. It will not be possible to save fuel on these tires - the consumption is too high. The level of comfort is noticeably better than that of the "Taganka" - the ride is the same, but the "Ukrainians" are much quieter.
Handling scores are the lowest. The Kalina, shod in Rosava, has a slow reaction to steering on dry pavement, but on wet pavement you have to turn it very smoothly, otherwise you risk losing grip.
The brakes are effective only when the wheels are locked.
You can only drive on dirt roads on dry land.
Low noise level, good brakes "on the block", decent cross-country ability.
Poor handling in extreme modes, poor brakes on the verge of wheel locking, low directional stability.
Recommended for all roads with careful driving.

Taganca M-238 Leader

13th place

Manufacturer - Russia (MShZ)
793 points
Tread depth - 7.5 mm
Tire weight - 7.0 kg
Price in Moscow - 900 rubles.
Value for money - 1.13
Features - asymmetric tread pattern

The only tire that did not score 800 points in the test. Showed only good fuel efficiency. With comfort, the situation is contradictory - the ride is almost good, but the noise is the strongest, like from winter studded tires. Handling is tolerable only on dry asphalt, on wet "Kalina" unexpectedly breaks into a deep skid, which only a well-trained driver can handle. The brakes are frankly weak.
The peculiarity of these tires is a sharp drop in grip on wet surfaces. Drive off the asphalt with a glance - "Leader" can slip into a slip even on a dry primer.
Good fuel efficiency, decent ride.
Low grip on wet surfaces, poor brakes and directional stability, loud noise.
Recommended for economical unhurried driving - and more careful on wet!

Ground tires. Their features and differences. Nuances of construction of MT and AT tires

The first cars were SUVs. All without exception! There were simply no other options then. But the asphalt pavements that appeared then gradually divided the cars into "parquet", all-terrain and completely off-road. Tractors, mining dump trucks and other agricultural and special equipment fell into the category of “completely off-road”. Their rubber has powerful lugs, reinforced sidewalls and is not suitable for driving at high speeds. True, they don't need it. After all, their purpose is to move around and perform a variety of work on the ground, allowing you not only to drive, but also to confidently maneuver. This rubber most often has a clearly pronounced directional herringbone pattern and, when slipping, throws out adhering clods of earth from the tread, preventing the tire from “blurring”, turning into a slick. The same or very similar tires are used by athletes participating in road races on mud.

MT tire design and construction allows you to ride
on them on serious off-road and on paved roads

For snow and swamps, there is a different design - the so-called ultra-low pressure tires. They not only easily overcome any swamps, but even give the car buoyancy. Wide "dutikas" create such low ground pressure that they allow you to move, leaving almost no traces. Impressive! Why aren't ordinary SUVs fitted with these tires? The fact is that special off-road tires, firstly, are extremely poorly controlled on asphalt, secondly, they are not designed for high speed and, thirdly, they wear out very quickly on hard surfaces. Therefore, for cars that often drive onto the ground, they make a special, so-called "mud" rubber, which in the name has the abbreviation MT, which literally means Mud Terrain - for mud coverage. Its construction and design allow you to make both long runs on asphalt and fairly confident maneuvers on the ground. These tires are most often produced in large sizes, because they are usually placed on elevator cars. So the standard size of MT-rubber may not be found.

Let's take a look at the tread design of these tires using the popular Toyo Open Country MT mud tire as an example. First of all, the pattern is very aggressive, the blocks have a hook-shaped profile that allows them to literally bite into any soil with their teeth. The open, almost rectangular shoulder sipes act like gears, sinking into the ruts and allowing you to pull out, even if the ruts are very deep and slippery. But that's not all! The tread pattern of this MT tire does not end with the shoulder area, but continues on to the sidewall of the tire. Why is this done? Few people know that with high articulation of the suspension, the tire is often in contact with the ground only with its sidewall. And, of course, a tire with lugs on the sidewall will work much more efficiently in such a situation.

AT tires are designed for high mileage on asphalt
and confident movement on the ground, except for extreme off-road

Yes, but all this serves for confident work on the ground, but what about the asphalt? What about handling, wear and noise? For a long service life on hard surfaces, as well as reliable handling of the machine, such a tire has a structure of three layers of polyester with a high curl of the edges (in conventional tires, two layers), which also gives high strength (significantly strengthens the entire tire carcass). And for excellent grip on wet asphalt (the main problem with all mud tires), there are deep sipes in the tread blocks. And to reduce noise and get rid of resonant hum, all tread parts are of different sizes. But it is important to remember that such rubber is still for those who often drive into real mud, that is, for real off-road driving and even racing lovers. For example, the Open Country MT model is actively used at the Dakar.

And for those who have a calmer temperament, who prefer to go around serious dirt, but still drive off the asphalt, there is a special class of rubber, which is designated by the abbreviation AT, or All Terrain, which literally means "for all surfaces." This rubber has a less aggressive tread pattern than MT and is built to last. But at the same time it allows you to confidently move along the ground. On the ground, not extreme off-road! And the dimensions allow you to install it instead of regular tires on a regular unprepared SUV or crossover. The design and construction of such tires are dictated by the peculiarities of their application. Consider AT tires using the example of the same Toyo Open Country, but this time with the designation A / T plus. Since these tires drive a lot on asphalt, gravel, rolled grader roads and dirt roads, the tread design is also quite aggressive, but at the same time far from the aggressiveness of MT. The tread pattern of the A / T plus is asymmetrical, allowing the outside of the tire to work as a sidewall off-road. The aggressive outer shoulder, typical of mud work, allows for firm grip on the ground in a rut. And the inner side of the tread serves for reliable grip on asphalt, providing excellent braking, controllability and high wear resistance, while reducing noise levels. The edges of the central blocks of the tread are stepped, this allows for increased forward and reverse traction on all types of soil. Well, and, of course, it was also not without high technologies and a special composition of the rubber compound. Thanks to the addition of silicon dioxide, it improves wet performance and rolling resistance, which in turn reduces fuel consumption and increases service life. Clear? Well, let's move on.

REGULAR QUESTIONS

Very often the question arises of how to choose the right discs for MT-rubber when installed on an elevated machine. The general rule of thumb is that the rim should be two inches narrower than the tire. This allows the tire to properly tread at different pressures and not bend.

Whether it is necessary to balance oversized mud tires is another question. Our opinion is that if the imbalance of a tire measuring 33 inches or more is within 100 grams, there is no point in balancing the MT. It is very heavy in itself, and besides, having driven along the side of the road and hitting a large piece of dirt with the sidewall, you immediately disrupt the balance, and significantly. As a general rule, wash your tires and rims after each mud ride and do not accelerate with MT tires above 110 km / h. Then there will be no strong imbalance, and the tires will last a long time. AT tires are another matter. They are much lighter and are not prone to carrying dirt on themselves, and most importantly, they travel at much higher speeds. They, of course, need to be balanced.

How to choose the size of discs for mounting rubber
oversized and do you need to balance large wheels?

Another important issue is the choice of pressure when driving on asphalt. If we are talking about regular size tires, the answer is simple - see the manual. But when installing large tires on an elevated SUV, the answer is no longer so obvious. As a general rule, the larger the tire size in relation to the standard one, the lower the working pressure in it on the asphalt should be. If the tire is inflated, then the central track quickly wears out, the car easily breaks down into a slip and bounces unpleasantly at every junction of the asphalt. An under-inflated tire heats up noticeably and wears out quickly. It slows down in steering response and crumbles monstrously in corners. Determining the optimal pressure is not that difficult. If you have driven a dozen or two kilometers and the rubber tread is warm to the touch, the pressure in the tire is normal. If it is hot, and it is obviously felt with your hand, increase the pressure, it is too low. If the tread is completely cold, you can safely reduce the pressure by a couple of tenths of an atmosphere and try again. But we will tell you about what tire pressure to use when driving on the ground in the following lessons.
