Type Test Group Sv answers questions. Big Winter Tire Test: Choosing "Driving"! The best winter tires rating

the main / Purchase \\ Sale

Winter tires with spikes is developing much more intensively than untapped options. That is why manufacturers from year to year offer the very models without special updates. Nevertheless, in the upcoming season, several leadership positions of past years will be unavailable for us. Therefore, the rating of winter unwanted tires 2014-2015 has changed a bit.

We chose the top five, in our opinion, winter tires that are not equipped with spikes. It is worth recognizing, excellent manufacturers technologies perform their task, rubber becomes more technological and allows you to hold even ice from a controlled position. Let's consider the five most interesting proposals not to the market of unwanted winter rubber in the upcoming season.

Continental ContivikingContact 3 - Third Generation of Unchanging Leader

For several years in a row, this model of untapped winter rubber gets the first places in the ratings. Of course, the technical characteristics are demeting the models with spikes, but there are other advantages about which it is necessary to talk.

The fact is that the ContivikingContact tires have a good clutch even with the icy surface of the road. This allows you to get chic control of the car on any coating. Also, benefits are expressed in the following:

  • excellent car control on the rolled snow;
  • the ability to go almost from any traps on the winter road;
  • high quality tread, sufficient tire resource;
  • resistance to highly low temperatures;
  • universal operating conditions of rubber.

Unfortunately, this rubber has one significant disadvantage. On wet and cold asphalt increases the braking path. This feature of German tires Continental must simply get used to. Otherwise, the tires do not have cons and can be used in fact on any car in winter.

Gislaved Soft Frost 2 - second generation of excellent tires

The most expressive advantage of this rubber is an excellent combination of price and quality. With a very low cost of the Gislaved bus demonstrate excellent characteristics.

Rubber under the brand Gislaved is made at that very factory that manufactures previous tires. German origin and excellent technical properties give the tires the following advantages:

  • excellent clutch on ice, etched or fresh snow;
  • lack of increased erasing of the tread on the asphalt;
  • normal brakes on any coatings;
  • resistance to operation at high temperatures.

Winter sometimes provides us with surprises in the form of abnormally high temperatures. If the Gislaved Soft Frost 2 tires are installed on your car, these weather drops are not scary, because the tires behave perfectly and with very high ambient temperatures.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSI - Classic Winter Tires

The proposal of the Finnish manufacturer can really please the owners of any car. These tires received special distribution among drivers of crossovers and compact SUVs. But the dimensions will allow to shine in RSI any car.

The most notable advantages of these tires can be described as follows:

  • high car control in turns;
  • excellent grip with asphalt and snow;
  • not bad resistance to ice slide;
  • good ride properties at any speed.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSI is a rubber that is designed for fully universal use. The manufacturer positions its offer for harsh winter conditions, but even at the plus temperature, the rubber behaves quite well.

Dunlop Graspic - Specialized Winter Tires

Dunlop also did not miss the opportunity to get into the ranking of the best winter tires of the 2014-2015 season. The DUNLOP GRASPIC rubber was better than many studded test options.

On ice, these tires demonstrate simply incredible characteristics, provide a wonderful braking path and accelerate well. But there are disadvantages:

  • in the fresh snow, the protector is completely clogged;
  • turns on wet asphalt are often uncontrollable;
  • at too much speed, the tires begins to make unpleasant sounds.

These shortcomings did not give Dunlop Graspic to accommodate higher in the ranking. But it is worth recognizing that the tires perfectly fulfill their tasks and can be the best offer in their class. True, if you get a little a trip on snowy and asphalt coatings.

Michelin X-Ice - Legend of Winter Automotive Tires

In his proposal, the legendary Michelin Corporation has a lot of rubber options for each car. MICHELIN X-ICE Winter tires often become the object of choice of drivers who do not need a sports trip over winter roads.

This rubber is capable of providing high-quality characteristics, but is not expressed by leader qualities in any of the criteria:

  • cold Asphalt's trip - the strongest side of the tires;
  • on the snow and ice of the tires demonstrate some weaknesses;
  • the brake path is averaged and balanced for any winter road;
  • the cost of tires is comparable to the presence of some minuses.

Michelin specialists have created X-ICE tires for those drivers who value practicality. It is on the cold and wet asphalt we will have to ride the most in the winter. And if necessary, overcoming ice obstacles, the car can perform this task on these tires.

Let's sum up

Winter tires in 2015 will be needed in the countries of the Customs Union. That is why choose tires this year will have to each owner of the car. Pay attention to the top five models of the tires presented above. Most likely, it is from these options that you can choose suitable tires for yourself.

Buying rubber for winter operation, you should take into account the features of the use of the car during this period, as well as the climatic zone in which you live.

After the crisis, the most popular and most affordable studded tires chose, not forgetting about Chinese. Seven of the eleven such tires were cheaper than 2500 rubles. New products in the "VAZ" sizes are a bit, but we have "with you" - the Continental ContiCecontact 2 tires just go to the market. For the first time in our tests, Avatyre Freeze (1770 rubles), Polish tires Sava Eskimo Stud (2135 rubles), Chinese Aeolus Ice Challenger (2140 rubles) and Japanese Yokohama IceGuard IG55 (2590 rubles) are participating in our tests. Among the "Scandinavian" selection is noticeably modest. According to manufacturers, the share of "riding" on the Russian market ranges from 65 to 80%, that is, "non-sheep" remains quite a bit. We found only seven sets. The most inexpensive - Cordiant Winter Drive for 2050 rubles and Nordman RS for 2225 rubles. The average price category (2500-3000 rubles) represent the "Japanese" Bridgestone Blizzak VRX and Toyo Observe GSI-5, as well as Goodyear UltraGrip ICE 2 of Polish production. We did not bother even a couple of top models of Nokian and Continental, which are more expensive than 3,000 rubles per piece.

The tests were performed in January - February at the AvtoVAZ test site, near Togliatti. Winter was not very frosty: the temperature of the rope within -25 ... -5 ºС. The asphalt part rolled back in early May, on the raised roads. Worked at night when the temperature did not rise above + 5 ... + 7 ºС. It is such a temperature of the tires consider transitional from winter tires to summer and vice versa. Test car - Lada Kalina, equipped with ABS.

How running and you will go

The most important part of the tests of winter tires is running in. After all, it depends on how well the tires on the snow and ice will work and how long will serve. It is easy to spoil in incorrect running in the "riding": with aggressive ride on risks, the spikes will be started simply to fly. Each set of studded tires we run through 500 km. Without sharp accelerations and braking, so that every hips get into his place and the rubber tightly wrapped its base. To do this, we divide the entire mileage for three to four parts, making after each break in motion per hour or two. For running in unintellible soft "scandinavocks", in the people of frequently referred to as "Velcro", 300 km are enough. And the movement style should be more aggressive, with a light slip when overclocking. Here, the prolonged task of running the Other runoff is completely removed from the tread remnants of the lubricant, which was applied to the mold (lubrication needed to eliminate damage to the tread with 3D-cuts when removing just welded tires from the mold). In addition, on these tires, it is necessary to remove a thin surface layer of rubber, which after baking it turns out to be a little harder core. It is possible not to worry about the wear of the sharp edges of the lamellas: on modern models, they are designed so that with mutual friction self-sharpening. This ensures the stability of the characteristics of non-loose tires all over the service life.

How to hang around?

On rolled tires, we measure the hardness of rubber and the magnitude of the speakers of spikes, comparing the results with those that they received on nine new tires. After running, the hardness of rubber on Shore, as a rule, changes to several units in one direction or another. The spikes can also be slightly out or shuffled because they get up in their place. In Russia, the magnitude of spikes is not regulated. But in the European Union countries, where the use of studded tires is allowed, it is limited - no more than 1.2 mm on new tires. This compromise value determined life: a smaller protrusion will not allow to achieve an effective clutch on ice, the larger will worsen the grip on the asphalt and will lead to the rapid loss of "carnations" during operation. In our long-term tests, the average speech of spikes after running is from 1.3 to 1.6 mm. So now almost all tires got into this range with a deviation of one tenth millimeter. The exceptions made up four models. First, this is Chinese Aeolus: it has a spikes only with 0.5-0.8 mm. It is immediately clear that on the ice he will not be enough from heaven. Secondly, Cordiant: Speaking of thorns comes up to 2.0 mm - an extremely allowed value in Europe (although no one checks on the machines). But Bridgestone and Sava are alarming: after running, some spikes sticking out 2.3 mm! And above the protector, not only the carbide insertion of the spike is towers (it, as a rule, performs over the housing by 1.2 mm), but also almost a millimeter of its cylindrical body. It is clear that on ice these tires will have an advantage over "law-abiding". At one time, we checked how the spelling of spikes on the coupling properties of the tires on the ice. Each tenth fraction of a millimeter reduces the braking path by 2.5-3%. The spikes with a protrusion of 2.3 mm will benefit from those that stick out by only 1.3 mm, not less than 25-30%!

I repeat that we have speech spikes with any laws limited. But according to the technical regulations of the Customs Union, which unites Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, for tires made from January 1, 2016, for speech of spikes on new tires is set to 1.2 ± 0.3 mm. That is, the spike will have to perform above the tread no less than 0.9 mm and no more than 1.5 mm. It will be interesting to look at the Bridgestone and Sava tires next year.

To get acquainted with the results of the test (they are reduced to the table), follow the links: Table # 1 and Table # 2.

What are we tested?

In the sequence of test exercises, we first measure overclocking and braking in the snow and on ice. Why? In the process of testing on the spikes, there are high loads, under the action of which the spikes can slowly move outward, and, if these measurements are last carried out, the spikes will perform more. After the longitudinal clutch measurements, we check the tires on the ice circle, we are experiencing on the rearrangement. And after that, we estimate controllability, coursework stability, permeability and comfort. At the end of all tests on the "white" roads again check the speech of thorns. If it has not changed during testing, then the spikes are kept in rubber securely, and this is the key to the fact that they will walk long. The most stable were Continental, Nordman, Yokohama and Bridgestone: These tires during all tests, the magnitude of the spikes remains unchanged. On one "dozen" crawled spikes from Nokian, such a result also consider excellent. Toyo and aeolus look quite worn: they have added spikes from zero to 0.2-0.3 mm. But the tires Avatyre, Cordiant, Formula and Sava increase threatening - up to 0.4-0.5 mm. There is a suspicion that with such a thread of growth in the spikes for a long time in the tires can not be held. The magnitude of the speakers of spikes is absolute recordsman - SAVA: some "carnations" after tests sticking out 2.7 mm!

Asphalt tests are also carried out, taking into account the intensity of rubber wear. We start with the assessment and measurements of resistance to rolling and only in the final we carry out braking on the asphalt. Guess why? If not, I will answer the words of Continental specialists, which are called emergency braking on asphalt with stress for winter tires - even if there are abs. And they believe that after a dozen one and a half of such braking, the tires come into disrepair. But we are just lying six - eight times a touch and the same on the wet road. After testing, carefully inspect the spikes and the protectors of the "stressed" tires. Three models whose spikes performed more than 2 mm (Bridgestone, Cordiant and Sava) differ from the other pits in rubber near spikes. When braking, high spikes are very tilted and spit pieces of tread. Yes, and the hulls of the spikes themselves are settled, lost the cylindrical shape and now look like cones. It is surprising that none of these tires lost spikes. The trouble came, from where they did not wait, - Blagov-recipient Toyo broke up with 14 spikes on four wheels. It is noteworthy that last year when the spikes at the end of the tests were sticking out a little more (up to 2.3 mm) than now (up to 1.9 mm), she did not have losses.

Hipovka or Velcro: Afterword

So, prefer - "Robes" or "Scandinaviani"? When choosing, remember the main advantages and disadvantages of those and others. Schips have more stable coupling properties on any coatings, but they are less comfortable. Soften and quiet "velcro" demanding more to the level of driver's skill on ice. In addition, I will not venture to advise "Scandinava" for cars without ABS: when the wheels are blocked on ice, their clutch falls significantly, and it is extremely dangerous. The Nokian bus was the unconditional winner of our test, which in recent years speaken the legislator of winter fashion: the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 model was released in the leader in the leader, and there was Hakkapeliitta R2 among the Scandinavians. But they are the most expensive. So the choice is not easy - and our tables with recommendations regarding each tire will help it.

We warn you a particularly exhaust: we should not compare the results of "riding" and "Scandinavocks", they are not found in different tables. According to their own experience, we know that the difference depends on temperature. On a strong frost (-20 ºС and below), soft "Scandinavians" will win on ice, in "greenhouse" (above -10 ºС) the best results will be at the "riding". Perhaps, it is possible to compare only behavior on the asphalt. But it should be remembered that tirens do not compare the data obtained in different days. After all, the result of measurements affects not only air temperature and asphalt, but also humidity, wind power, the amount of ultraviolet and much more. At the same time, Anton Ananiev, Vladimir Wheel, Yuri Kurochkin, Yevgeny Larin, Anton Mishin, Andrei Forms, Valery Pavlov and Dmitry Tests took part. We express our appreciation to the manufacturers to the test products, as well as employees of the AvtoVAZ polygon and Togliatti company Volgashinth for technical support.

Winter rubber season started at the end of July. On store shelves and online catalogs have appeared the latest innovations of winter tires 2014-2015.

New Winter Tires from Nokian

Significantly updated the winter line with tires for passenger transport, including SUVs and commercial vehicles. Nokian offers buyers of the joint production model of Nokian Nordman 5 and 5 SUV. Rubber is equipped with spikes of a new modification with a round (for passenger) and square (for SUVs) form. The famous technology of holding a spike "bear claw" is also implemented in new models of auto strokes.

The friction tire line was replenished with the Hakkapeliitta CR3 model. Tires are designed for complex climatic conditions. Here, a new steel breaker and an increased silica content in the mixture is applied. Nokian Hakkapeliitta C3 is designed for installation on minibuses. Rubber is equipped with a tetrahedral shape spikes and an optimized steel breaker for strength.

Nokian HakkaPeliitta 8 SUV promises the user the most durable sidewall and reliable grip, thanks to the use of a new multifaceted spike. To enhance comfort under thorns, there is a pillow of soft rubber.

New from Bridgestone

Updated the line of winter autoresin for high-pass vehicles. Blizzak DMV-2 received a rubber mixture of a new generation. The manufacturer promises unprecedented earlier adhesion with the road due to the microporous structure of the tread and removal of 100% water from the contact stain. Uniform load distribution is provided with an updated pattern, and ECO-Products technology is designed to reduce rolling resistance.

Bridgestone's passenger friction rubber model range also replenished with Blizzak VRX model. The manufacturer itself calls the tires with its best creation. A new rubber mixture, optimal clutch on ice and an increased service life - the key characteristics of rubber, the name of which is literally translated as the "vertex".

New winter tires from Continental

Released to replace the previous flagship of the model range updated ContivikingContact 6. Rubber is intended for the harsh winters of Russia and the Nordic countries. The manufacturer has developed a drawing of a friction rubber tread, not at all similar to the previous creations of Continental. Viking 6 received improved clutch, reduced aquaplaning and impeccable braking due to the innovation structure of the lamellae.

In addition to recognized market leaders in the premium and average price segment, new products showed:

  • With studded rubber for Ultra Grip Ice Arctic SUV and friction passenger tire Ultra Grip Ice 2
  • With a new studded model Ice Guard Stud IG55

Developed Models of WinterCraft Ice Wi61 with a friction structure and frost-resistant composition of the rubber mixture and Wintercraft Ice Wi31 with the possibility of misappropriate and improved ice behavior.

Released new items in the spout and friction tires: Arctictrekker NP 3 and Arctictrekker NS 3, respectively. The updated models were replaced by MA-SPW. Tires are created using the unique technology MAXXIS VIP. Rubber received improved clutch, increased resistance to wear and optimized rubber mixture.

In the US, closer to the north of Detroit (about 300 miles from Detroit), "various tests of winter, popular tires of the model range of 2013-2014 were held. There were 11 pairs of various winter tires on the ship - and six of which with spikes, and five not having any spikes in everyday life of lipukek. For subsequent testing, the standard Hyundai Sonata was used, the size of the wheels of which is 215/55 R17 (R16 in the factory execution). Behind the wheel of this car during tests, the Richard Mei, previously tested winter tires for, SUVs and universal, was known in the past.

Tests conducted outside the contest:

Before testing, all tires are tested and weighed, and also tested the rubber hardness, compared the speed index and measured the entire departure of spikes. Checked strength and all seemingly not important parts of the tires, as the tests are not out of simple, and some are even very dangerous.

Testings were carried out on ice, as this is the best way to check and evaluate the braking path and the dynamics of overclocking. Eight races needed to drive on every tire tested. The best test results, as expected to guess, have shown studded tires! - It was all expected and this did not surprise anyone, but the following indicators are really amazing ...

Suddenly, the shocking was that the brands of Yokohama and Hankook, if you take into account all testing conditions, - showed the worst result. - After a re-testing was made, which showed that the brands should find a place in the last rows of test results. - Results leave to desire better ...

Some of the most popular tires of the Far East are Toyo and Dunlop. These tires do not have spikes that are called "Velcro". - However, on testing, they did not show themselves "velcro" and, with all that all tests passed at a temperature of minus 9 degrees, they simply did not have a chance.

Later, the next day of testing, when the thermometer showed only one degree above zero, and all testing for tires of non-novel spikes - repeated. The tires slid ... 34.7 meters turned out to be the best result, and last day, test results reached only 16-19 meters. The speed of overclocking increased by 2 times! The cause of such misunderstandings was water, which on the first day of testing was formed at the point of contact with ice tires. Finally, Japanese technologies were able to truly show themselves and turned out to be an excellent result - which really amazes! Dunlop tires showed good results, and Toyo tires could not show the best result, even after testing repeated at 1 degree frost.

It is also necessary to separately select Michelin X-LSE 2 tires, which showed good results regardless of weather conditions. This is a universal type of tire, which is recommended today for everyday ride.

So, three testing leaders who showed the best results: Nokian, Continental, Michelin. Unfortunately, and even to great surprise, the best result of the Michelin X-LSE 2 tire - did not show. Many were surprised by this, because they did a big bet. From here and followed the conclusion that these tires show themselves better in the longitudinal direction than in the transverse one. And the use of Michelin X-LSE 2 in the transverse direction does not recommend many specialists and experts who also did not expect such results from this brand.

The track on which all testing testing was carried out periodically checked and made some changes. It was easier and easier to determine the results of tire testing for snow. The snow cover was stable, the area is much more, - that is why each brand of tires needed 12-14 races. The best results showed Michelin tires, which are considered to be one of the best tires for snow. When overclocking the best turned out to be untouched by X-IAs 2. When braking, the well-studded tires X-LSE NORTH have shown. Testing have shown that nothing depends on the spikes on the landfill!

Test authors were amazed by the result of SONATA, which had an automatic transmission and showed its results that had already spoken for themselves. It turned out that the tires freely and quickly go through the snow, and at the same time the driver gets great pleasure!

But the Continental CONTILCECTACT and Nokian HakkaPeliitta 7 tires turned out to be indispensable for clutch with ice and slippery expensive.

Mishelin tires showed that this is the best choice for urban, casual ride, which showed the reliability of the control.

Also, after all testing, another testing was carried out on the loss of spikes. It turned out that not one brand did not lose for all the time testing not one that actually struck many journalists who watched the entire process.

This testing dispelled myth that on the asphalt track, the studded tires work allegedly worse than untouched.

Last testing has become resistance to slashplanting. This test involves a special VOlkswagen TransPerter. The car should go to the top 3.5 cm. Snow with asphalt snow, and accelerate until it loses absolute contact with a solid surface. Only speed was important in this test, it was considered the speed of the launch of the slash. COntiNENTAL SONTIVIKINGSNTAXTA 5 and NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA 7 - showed the best resulting in this testing. No one assumed that in this test, these two stamps will be the most persistent.

All tests were evaluated on a ten-ball scale and here they are the winners of testing:

The best studded tires were tires - NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA 7, with a very small gap the following tires lagging behind: Michelin X-LSE NORTH 2 and SONTINENTAL SONTILSECOCT, - which are almost also winners!

Tires - CONTIVIKINGCNTACT 55 were the best notched tires 5. Then the NOKIAN HAKKELIITTA R, which lagged out only 0.05 points from the winner - SONTIVIKINGSNTACT 5.

The studded winter tires enjoy the greatest popularity among motorists in Russia, and therefore their rating is relevant than ever.

Season 2014-2015 prepared a large number of new products, but not all of them, unfortunately, were tested. The same as they have fallen on the tests showed the following results (ranking based on Test World tests):

  • The Sunny SN3860 Sunny SN3860 tires are closed by the Sunny SN3860 Tires, who failed to show a decent result in any of the tests, with the exception of tests on dry asphalt. The result is 5.9 points and the last 13th place.
  • Slightly above the Tires of Nokian Nordman 4, produced in Russia. Showing good results in tests on the snow and the best rolling resistance among all nominees, these tires failed almost all other tests and received modest outcome 7.1 points.
  • The Chinese Jinyu YW53, located on the 11th place, also earned 7.1 points, but rose in the ranking higher due to better behavior on the ice.
  • The 10th line got the rubber Vredestein Arctrac brought from the Netherlands. These tires feel good on ice and snow, but "modest" on the wet asphalt, and there are some problems with the course stability. The result is 7.5 points.
  • The 9th place was stamped by the "riding" Bridgestone Blizzak Spike-01, scored 7.7 points due to excellent behavior on ice and snow coverage.
  • The 8th line of the rating went to the Tires of Michelin X-Ice North 3 of the Russian production, which honored 7.9 points. Showing a decent result in all trials, this rubber was saved only in tests for rolling resistance.
  • At the 7th place of the Winter Rubber Rating 2014-2015 rating, the Polish Tires Dunlop Ice Touch were the behavior (acceleration and braking) of which in the snow and ice are practically identical to the leaders of the current season with the exception of manageability and rolling resistance. Outcome - 8.0 points exactly.
  • The 6th line was taken by Rubber Hankook Winter I * Pike RS W419 from South Korea, who scored 8.1 points. Despite 170 spikes, these tires demonstrated very mean braking on ice and one of the worst on dry asphalt.
  • The five leaders open the German "rose" Gislaved Nord * Frost 100 with the final 8.3 points. In all the tests, this tires "breathed in the back of the head" leaders, seriously giving way only in braking on dry asphalt.
  • The 4th line of the rating is given by Tires Goodyear Ultragrip Ice Arctic Polish production. Their final result is 8.4 points obtained for excellent balance in any road conditions, but on ice and snow leaders still behave more confidently.
  • The 3rd and 2nd ranktime divided the German tires - Pirelli Ice Zero and Continental ContiCecontact, who scored 8.6 points. Demonstrating almost the same indicators in all tests, both models only slightly lost the leader (however, we note that Continental ContiCecontact has problems with exchange rate stability, and Pirelli Ice Zero was the most noisy of all tested samples).
  • As for the winner, the best winter studded rubber in this season was the Finnish tires of Nokian HakkaPeliitta 8, who managed to score 8.8 points. Could and more if there were not some problems with braking on wet asphalt and noise in the car's cabin.
