Turn left across a solid scaffold line

home / Driving

Good afternoon, dear reader.

This article focuses on the vehicle crossing a solid lane mark when making a left turn. For example, such a violation can occur when the car leaves the yard.

In fact, this situation is not entirely unambiguous, since the penalty for turning left largely depends on the trajectory the vehicle is following. In this case, it does not matter which markings the car crosses: solid or double solid.

Consider penalties for turning left across a solid lane, as well as the situations in which they are superimposed. Let's get started.

Penalty for crossing a double solid line when turning left

Penalty for crossing a solid marking line is provided for in part 2:

2. Turning to the left or making a U-turn in violation of the requirements prescribed by road signs or markings of the carriageway -

shall entail the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of one thousand to one thousand five hundred rubles.

Thus, the penalty for crossing a solid or double solid when making a left turn is 1,000 - 1,500 rubles.

Penalty for leaving the oncoming lane when turning left

Consider another penalty that can also be imposed when crossing a solid lane line while turning (part 4):

4. Departure, in violation of the Traffic Rules, into a lane intended for oncoming traffic, or on tram tracks of an opposite direction, except for the cases provided for by part 3 of this article, shall -

shall entail the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of five thousand rubles or deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of four to six months.

If, when turning left, the car is at least partially in the oncoming lane, the punishment for crossing the solid marking line will be more severe - 5,000 rubles or deprivation of rights for 4-6 months.

Thus, the amount of the penalty mainly depends on the trajectory of the vehicle. The rest of this article will discuss the various options for performing a turn.

Trajectories when turning left

To better understand the details of the situation, below are the schemes for making a left turn on two road options:

  • two-lane with a solid marking line,
  • four-lane with double solid line.

Consider a standard exit from the yard to the left. As a rule, drivers perform a bend in a canted trajectory, i.e. cut off the corner:

If you look closely at the picture, it becomes clear that the left side of the car turns out to be on the opposite lane during a turn. This is especially true for the rear left wheel. When making a turn along such a trajectory, the driver will be fined 5,000 rubles or revoked.

To be guaranteed to avoid driving into the oncoming lane, you need to cross the solid marking line at right angles:

The figure above illustrates a similar maneuver. However, it becomes obvious that on a road with two lanes, such a maneuver is very difficult, almost impossible. There is not enough room to turn after crossing a solid road. Therefore, in any case, the driver will partially drive into the oncoming lane when turning.

Consider leaving the adjacent territory for a four-lane road with a double solid line marking... Standard vehicle turning paths:

In this case, it is even better seen that if the driver cuts off the corner, then he is in the oncoming lane. The punishment for such a maneuver will be a fine of 5,000 rubles or deprivation of rights for 4-6 months.

To reduce the amount of the penalty, the driver must cross the double solid line at right angles:

There is ample space on a four-lane road, so the driver can first cross the solid double lane marking and only then turn left. In this case, he will receive a fine in the amount of 1,000 - 1,500 rubles.

Let's summarize this article. To get the minimum penalty when turning left, you need to cross the solid (double solid) marking line at right angles... Other trajectories of movement can lead to the fact that the driver will be disqualified for driving into the oncoming lane.

In conclusion, I want to note that this article was written in connection with a large number of readers' questions about the intersection of a solid line when turning left. In practice, it is much safer to turn right first and then turn around at the nearest intersection.

Good afternoon, Maxim. I try not to miss your issues and study them carefully. A lot of useful and extremely necessary information. And let me ask the question: what to do if there is a fine for a violation that I did not commit and even physically could not be in the area. but with a different decree number. It seems that my data was entered into someone else's protocol on purpose (I don’t want to believe it), or I made a mistake when entering it into the database, which is also somehow hard to believe.

Hello Maxim. In your article, I don’t understand this, where the traffic rules say that when leaving the yard, you can cross solid marking lines, especially with the exit into the oncoming lane when turning left. Please indicate this is the point of traffic rules. Best regards, Boris.

Magomed-3

Good afternoon, Maxim. I have a question. Do the traffic police have the right to shoot from a moving private car and then attach it to the protocol on administrative violation. And then, without knowing the material, send it to court. Thank you in advance.

Good luck on the road!

Boris, Hello.

Continuous markings (single 1.1 and double 1.3), dividing traffic flows in opposite directions, cannot be crossed.

It is prohibited to cross the lines 1.1, 1.2.1 and 1.3.

For crossing these types of markings, the driver will in any case receive a fine. It is about fines that are discussed in the article.

Good luck on the road!
