To understand why the machine works at idle, it is necessary to represent how the engine functions and what processes in it occur. The operation of the engine on any modes depends on the following factors:
- compression;

- ignition advance angle (any gasoline engines);
- fuel injection advance angle (diesel engine);
- ignition candles (any gasoline engines);
- serviceability of the carburetor (only carburetor engine);
- feed the injector control unit;
- corporation of high pressure fuel pump (TNVD).
Violation in the work of any engine system leads to a change in its mode. If compression is reduced, the part of the gases generated during the combustion of the fuel and air mixture is not involved in the overall work. Because of this, the pressure on the piston is reduced and the engine turnover is falling. Expanded turns for any motor are determined based on the operation of the generator and the lubrication system. When idling is lower than the required, the voltage of the generator drops, the lubrication efficiency decreases and the force required to rotate the crankshaft increases.
The same thing happens because of other troubles: the fuel burns inefficiently, the pressure on the piston decreases, the idle turns fall below the allowable limit, as a result, the car stalls at idle. If at idle turns to press the gas pedal slightly, then the engine operation is aligned, in addition, the car does not lose its power on the road. In this case, the problem is in small failures of one of the engine systems (injector or diesel), or in incorrect operation of the idle system (only carburetor engine). If the motor also works with less power, serious diagnosis and repair is required.
A warning
In injection and diesel engines, idle speed adjustment is carried out in the same way as motor power control, so all checks or adjustment of the controller or injection system can be carried out only in a reliable service, where there are all the necessary equipment. An attempt to independently check the operation of the injector controller, TNVD or fuel injectors, without the use of special equipment, will not lead to anything good.
In carburetor motors for idling, a special system consisting of channels, an electromagnetic valve, air and fuel jams is responsible.
If you do not know how to independently change fuel / air filters, measure the compression or adjust the valves, do not attempt to clean or customize the carburetor. By inexperience or ignorance, you can ruin not only it, but also the head of the cylinder block.
