the main / Repairs

Lexus GS 2013-2014 - what is it really like? Let's take a closer look at the exterior and interior design (photo and video) of the Japanese Lexus GS 2013-2014 sedan with sporty notes not only in appearance, but also in striking technical characteristics. We will learn about the level of equipment and the cost of a car for Russian motorists, behavior on the road (we will arrange a test drive) and general impressions of Lexus GS according to the owners' reviews.

Let's start our review not traditionally, with the history of the GS model. The very first Lexus GS, or S140, were produced in 1993-96. The cars were decorated according to the project developed by the Italian automobile designer Giorgetto Giugiaro.
Models of the second generation GS - S160 were produced from 1997 to 2005, and the third - S190 - from 2005 to 2012.

The striking fourth-generation Lexus GS sedan (L10) debuted first in Pebble Beach (USA in August 2011), and then on the podium at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011. In two years of production, the stylish sports sedan managed to win the hearts of not only Russian spring 2012), but Chinese and, of course, American motorists. The auto novelty is successfully sold in more than 60 countries, the Japanese manufacturer has high hopes for the model for promotion in Europe and the successful competition of its sedan with the cars of the big German three.

It was on this car that a fresh idea of the design of a pseudo-radiator grille in the shape of a spindle was initially introduced, which later became a proprietary "chip" of Lexus, which was then received by the entire line of the Japanese manufacturer of luxury cars. But it was Lexus GS that became the firstborn with such a stylish and striking design solution.

With the change of generations, the dimensions, torsional and bending stiffness of the body traditionally increase, and the aerodynamic characteristics improve. All this is confirmed in the new Lexus GS (L10). Compared to the previous generation, the new GS model has grown in all directions, the external dimensions of the new GS body: 4850 mm long, 1840 mm wide, 1455 mm high, 2850 mm wheelbase, 145 mm (141 mm for the hybrid version GS 450h) ground clearance, 1575 mm front wheel track, 1590 mm rear wheel track.
The rigidity of the body of the new generation of the car has increased by 17%, and the drag coefficient of a fairly large sedan is only 0.26 Cx.
The new Lexus GS 2013 offers a wide range of high-quality enamels for painting the body, ranging from regular black to metallic colors: pearl white, light silver, beige, gray, red, blue and dark blue, bronze and black.

Let's take a closer look at the exterior of the new Lexus GS. At the front, you can see the neat lighting technology without any design flaws: the lower part of the headlights is framed by strips of LEDs, which have an L-shaped appearance. The radiator grille has two levels, with the upper one beautifully decorated with a shiny chrome frame, and the lower one starting after the massive crossbar. The streamlined aerodynamic bumper features auxiliary air duct grooves and fog lights.

As for the sports version of the F Sport for the Lexus GS sedan, with its embossed bumper, which has three air ducts and does not contain foglights, the car looks menacing and purposeful. With a face like the F Sport models, upstream neighbors will clear the right lane of the highway at the first beep.

The smooth slope of the hood, bypassing the windshield, slowly flows into the high roof, which does not have sharp drops in level. From the side, the car looks quite calm - neat sidewalls and wheel arches, under which wheels are placed in sizes from 225/50 R17 to 235/45 R18 (for the F Sport modification, these are 265/35 R19 at the rear and 235/40 R19 at the front as an option), and also sporty legged mirrors.

The Lexus GS at the rear has a powerful roof pillar with a characteristic design curve and a small rounded stern. Large, complex-shaped taillights, also having LEDs, a massive bumper and a luggage compartment that is not particularly striking in size and shape, an integrated diffuser and a pipe of the exhaust system - all this looks quite in a sporty style. In general, the car has a very memorable, interesting and solid appearance, giving the impression of a comfortable and fast car to drive.

When the door is opened from the driver's side, the steering column and the seat diverge in different directions, making it easy and comfortable to get into the car. At the same time, the chair itself is extremely comfortable, has a high-quality and ergonomic profile. In different configurations, the chair is electrically adjustable in the number of directions from 8 to 14 and is able to memorize the settings of different positions. It is possible to change the position of the chair and mechanically, in four different directions. In general, the process of fitting a seat to a specific person is very exciting, it is quite possible to choose a configuration exactly for yourself.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel of the optimum diameter for active steering has a host of buttons that make it easier for the driver to control auxiliary functions (audio system, telephone, cruise control).

The instrument panel has two large dials and an on-board computer display. The backlight changes color in different driving modes from the most fuel efficient blue to the sporty red. In general, the front part - the console, the tunnel and the dashboard - look quite massive, solid and expensive. In the recess of the dashboard there is a large EMV-screen measuring 8 or 12.3 inches, below there is an elegant clock and a climate control panel, as well as the latest audio system with 12 speakers and supports MP3, DVD, USB, WMA and AUX, a rear view camera , navigation as an option. It is worth noting that in the Lexus GS Luxury, this audio system, among other things, is equipped with premium music from Mark Levinson and has 17 speakers.

Two cockpits for the front passenger and the driver are formed by a high tunnel, on which there is a convenient Remote-Touch joystick on top for adjusting all functions in the car, as well as a special switch for driving modes - Normal, Eco, Sport S or Sport S +. In addition, there is a comfortable armrest of sufficient size for absolute comfort, as well as heated and ventilated front seats.

The second row of seats has more legroom and headroom. As for the middle passenger, the transmission tunnel will slightly interfere with his legs. The rear passengers of the Luxury car have a three-zone climate control unit, which they can control directly from the center armrest, as well as heated seats and an electric blind on the window.

The volume of the luggage compartment of the fourth generation Lexus GS is quite impressive - for the Lexus GS 350 it is 530 liters, and for the hybrid Lexus GS 450h it is slightly less, 465 liters.

In Russia, the new Lexus GS 2013-2014 is offered by a motorist in a wide range of trim levels from the initial Executive (equipped quite solidly) to the chic Luxury. High quality fabric or leather, soft plastic, natural wood and aluminum are used as finishing materials. Being in the cabin of the new generation Lexus GS, the driver and his four companions do not leave a feeling of comfort and luxury. The Lexus GS salon has a luxurious and expensive look, and is equipped in accordance with the requirements of its market segment, keeping up with its main competitors -, and.

Specifications: the new Lexus GS 2013-2014 was created on the platform of its predecessor, its suspension is independent. In front it is multi-link, and in the back it has two wishbones with separate springs and shock absorbers. The brake system is a disc brake system with EBD and ABS, as well as special electronic systems - TRC (traction control), HAC (helps when going uphill and when starting off), VSC (course stability). There is an electric power steering with variable settings, you can choose one of three driving modes Eco, Normal or Sport. In addition, the F SPORT version has such systems as VDIM - control of the dynamics of the car and AVS - adjustment of the suspension stiffness (four Eco, Normal, Sport S and Sport S + become the driving mode).

The Lexus GS F debuted at the 2015 annual Detroit International Auto Show. The novelty is notable for the fact that this is the first time that a top sedan has acquired not just a charged modification, but a full-fledged sports version. It is easy to distinguish it from a standard sedan, it has an enlarged radiator grille in the corporate style. It has an hourglass-like shape, extending from the edge of the bonnet to the very bottom of the bumper, and is composed of many elongated honeycombs. It is also worth noting the air intakes, they give the front end of the car a truly aggressive and dynamic appearance. The sporty character of the novelty is also emphasized by the four tailpipes of the exhaust system, they are located on two floors and, together with a small spoiler on the trunk lid, make the rear of the car memorable and dynamic.

Dimensions Lexus GS F

Lexus GS F is a four-door sedan of the E class. Its overall dimensions are: length 4915 mm, width 1845 mm, height 1440 mm, wheelbase 2850 mm, and the ground clearance is 130 mm. Such low ground clearance is typical of sports cars. Together with wide tires and stiff suspension, they provide perfect handling. With such settings, the car holds the road better, easily passes sharp turns, and most importantly, it is less prone to overturns.

The trunk of the Lexus GS F has good roominess. Its volume is 520 liters. This is quite enough for the everyday tasks of a city dweller. The owner will also not be embarrassed if he decides to go on a long journey with bulky luggage on board.

Lexus GS F engine and transmission

The Lexus GS F is equipped with the same powertrain as the RC F sports coupe, an eight-speed automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive and a smart electronic differential that can change the thrust vector. Taken together, these units are able to give a lot of pleasure to the true driving fan.

The engine of the Lexus GS F is a large gasoline naturally aspirated V8. Aspirated powertrains do not have high power characteristics compared to their turbocharged competitors, but they are more flexible and predictable due to the absence of a turbo lag and a linear increase in power. The engine under the hood of the sedan has four camshafts, four valves per cylinder and a variable valve timing system at the inlet and outlet. The power unit is assembled by hand and, according to the manufacturer, has an amazing sound. All in all, this five-liter V8 develops 477 horsepower at 7100 rpm and 530 Nm of torque at 5600 rpm. This herd accelerates the car to a speed of one hundred kilometers per hour in just 4.6 seconds, and the high-speed ceiling, in turn, will be 270 kilometers per hour. With such a displacement and power, you should not count on efficiency, but the engineers did everything possible to moderate the appetites of this beast. The fuel consumption of the Lexus GS F will be 16.8 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers at an urban pace with frequent acceleration and braking, 8.1 liters during a leisurely trip on a country road and 11.3 liters of fuel per hundred in the combined cycle.

Equipment

Lexus GS F has a rich technical stuffing. Inside you will find a ton of clever systems and useful gadgets designed to make your trip comfortable, fun, and most importantly, safe. So, the car is equipped with: an adaptive high-beam control system and automatic headlight range control, heated wiper blades, light and rain sensors, an electric sunroof in the roof, a headlight washer, electrically adjustable side mirrors, heating, automatic folding and dimming, front and rear parking sensors, electric boot lid, full LED headlights, proximity card key, 12.3-inch color multimedia system monitor, 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system, rear-view camera with dynamic markings, OEM navigation system, three-zone climate control, as well as electrically adjustable seats, lift, heating, ventilation and memory parameters.

Outcome

Lexus GS F combines all the qualities of an executive sedan and a sports car. He has a stylish and impetuous appearance, which perfectly emphasizes the character and status of his master in society. Such a car will not merge with the gray everyday stream and will not get lost in the large parking lot of the business center. The salon is a realm of luxury, exclusive finishing materials, verified ergonomics and uncompromising comfort. Even a long trip will not give you the slightest discomfort. Inside you will find a ton of useful gadgets and ingenious systems that keep you from getting bored while driving and greatly facilitate operation. The manufacturer is well aware that a car is not a high-tech toy and, first of all, it should give pleasure from driving. That is why, under the hood of the sedan there is a powerful and modern engine, which is a fusion of innovative technologies, many years of experience in the field of engine building and legendary Japanese quality. Lexus GS F will serve you for miles and will give you an unforgettable driving experience.

Video

At the international Frankfurt bride in the fall of 2011, Lexus unveiled the premium fourth-generation GS E-sedan, which was previewed in the summer of the same year at the Pebble Beach Elegance Competition.

The creators of the car focused on design and technical component, and also endowed it with a bunch of different "gadgets".

In January 2015, at the North American Auto Show, a "charged" modification of the three-volume with the letter "F" debuted, which received an aggressive look and powerful "stuffing", and a few months later an updated version of a conventional car arrived at Pebble Beach, which became prettier externally and internally, became more perfect in technical terms and acquired new options.

The "fourth" Lexus GS looks great - in its appearance the classic and defiantly "sharp" forms are in good harmony. The proportionally folded car combines a front end full of aggression, a taut and solid profile with regular three-volume outlines and a "curly" stern. Even fiercer-looking "charged" F-version - it is distinguished by black "holes" in the front bumper, "double-deck" exhaust, wide wheels with a diameter of 19 inches and numerous aerodynamic tweaks.

The length of the "GS" fits in 4880 mm, of which 2850 mm is occupied by the wheelbase, and its width and height are 1840 mm and 1455 mm, respectively. The “heated” version is 35 mm longer, 5 mm wider and 15 mm lower than its “civilian” counterpart.

The interior of the fourth generation Lexus GS not only looks strict, presentable and solid, but also captivates with the highest quality materials and workmanship. "Tidying" of the car is quite ordinary in appearance and informative in practice, and the steering wheel is beautiful and multifunctional. On the solid center console, headed by a 12.3-inch screen of the multimedia complex, there is a stylish analog clock and the keys for controlling the "climate" and "music" are concentrated. The decoration of the car with the letter "F" in addition "flaunts" virtual "instrumentation", as well as a generous trim in carbon and Alcantara.

The front seats of the Lexus GS are endowed with a carefully thought-out profile, electrically adjustable, heating and "memory", and the F-version has formidable "buckets" with integrated head restraints. The rear row of seats boasts a comfortable profile and ample space on all fronts.

530 liters of luggage can fit into the GS's cargo compartment, but the shape of the “hold” is not ideal. A full-size spare wheel is stowed in a niche under the raised floor near the three-volume, and in the back of the rear sofa it has a hatch for transporting long items.

Specifications. On the Russian market, the fourth "release" of the Lexus GS is available only in the most powerful version "F" - such a machine is armed with a 5.0-liter V8 petrol "aspirated" with an aluminum block, combined fuel injection and variable valve timing technology Dual VVT-iE with electric drive ... In his arsenal there is a herd of 477 "stallions" at 7100 rpm and 530 Nm of peak torque at 4800-5600 rpm.
The entire power reserve by means of an 8-band "automatic" goes to the rear axle, which is equipped with an active gearbox with a variable thrust vector.
Such a car is capable of a lot in asphalt disciplines: the "maximum speed" of the sedan is 270 km / h, and the "bailout" to the first "hundred" is within 4.6 seconds. In the combined driving cycle, the "Japanese" consumes 11.2 liters of gasoline for every 100 km.

In other countries, the Lexus GS is also offered in "civilian" versions. The four-door is equipped with petrol “fours” and V-shaped “sixes” with a volume of 2.0-3.5 liters, developing 245-316 horsepower and 350-380 Nm of peak traction and combined with automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (optional - all-wheel drive transmission).
Hybrid modifications are also provided for the car, the power plants of which combine gasoline engines and electric motors, with a total capacity of 223-345 "mares" and a return of 221-352 Nm of rotational potential.

The fourth generation of the “Ji-Es” is built on a sports-modernized platform of its predecessor with extensive use of high-strength grades of steel and aluminum components. On the front axle there is a double wishbone suspension with levers made of "winged metal", and at the rear there is a "multi-link".
As an option, the car is equipped with an electronically controlled chassis with variable stiffness, and the F-sedan has its own passive ZF Sachs shock absorbers.
On all wheels of the sedan there are ventilated discs of the brake center with ABS, EBD and other "assistants", and its steering system consists of a rack and pinion mechanism and an adaptive electric booster.
The "charged" car has a stiffer body, powerful Brembo brakes, "pointed" steering and a clamped suspension.

Options and prices. In the Russian market, the Lexus GS F in 2016 is sold in one configuration at a price of 6,390,000 rubles ("civilian" versions are not supplied to our country).
By default, the car relies on ten airbags, ABS, ESP, full LED optics, leather interior, dual-zone "climate", 19-inch wheel rims, a premium audio system with 17 speakers, a multimedia center with a rear-view camera and navigation, parking sensors and electric boot lid. In addition, the four-door "flaunts" the systems of assistance when starting uphill, monitoring blind spots, recognizing road signs and tracking the occupied lane, adaptive "cruise", a driver fatigue sensor and the darkness of other modern equipment.

In February 2008, the Russian representative office of Lexus announced the start of sales of the updated GS series sedans in our market. The Lexus GS430 is replaced by the new Lexus GS460, which is equipped with a 4.6-liter V8 engine with direct fuel injection. And as for this version - the Lexus GS300, equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine, it still remains in the series (just like the GS450h with a hybrid power plant).

During the restyling, the car received small changes in the exterior and interior, which include a new front and rear bumper, a different radiator grille and the shape of the door handles, new design wheels and a modified steering wheel, mirrors with integrated turn signals. The updated Lexus GS received an upgraded suspension, and the GS300 equipment list now includes the Suspension Stiffness Adjustment System (AVS), which was only available for the Lexus GS430 prior to restyling.

There were three complete sets for the Lexus GS300 of the 2009 model year in Russia: Executive (basic), Premium and Luxury. The equipment of all versions includes xenon headlights and headlight washers, front foglights, electric and heated mirrors. In addition, the database contains electrically heated seats, wood trim, climate control, an on-board computer, an audio system with 10 speakers, a touchscreen display on the center console, an intelligent owner identification system, and full power accessories. The Premium package will offer all the functions of the basic version, plus a rear spoiler, leather and wood steering wheel trim, leather interior, ventilated front seats, and an electric sunroof. The top-end Premium configuration includes a Mark Levinson premium audio system, a DVD navigation system, and a 6-disc DVD changer.

The Lexus GS300 is powered by the 3GR-FSE engine, a 3-liter V6 gasoline engine that uses a state-of-the-art direct fuel injection system that delivers excellent performance, high power (249 hp) and impressive torque (310 Nm). The proprietary variable valve timing system VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) provides continuous and accurate tuning of the engine to various operating modes. Acceleration to "hundreds" will take 7.2 seconds. The transmission on the GS300 is a 6-speed automatic. In this version, the sedan can be called quite economical - the average gas mileage for the Lexus GS300 is 9.5 l / 100 km. The volume of the tank is 75 liters.

The third-generation Lexus GS suspension is fully independent, double wishbone at the front and multi-link at the rear. Given that the GS is primarily a sports sedan, the chassis has been tuned accordingly. For better stability, the vehicle is equipped with Adaptive Suspension Stiffness Control (AVS), which can change the damping characteristics of the shock absorbers. Ventilated disc brakes (334 and 310 mm) are installed on both axles of the vehicle, providing maximum braking efficiency. The standard wheel size is 225/50 R17. Car dimensions: length - 4825 mm, width - 1815 mm, height - 1430 mm. The wheelbase is 2850 mm. Turning circle - 10.4 m.

The GS series uses Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), which recognizes potentially hazardous situations and corrects vehicle dynamics, thereby preventing possible loss of control. Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPS), electronic braking system and traction control provide confident handling. In addition, the standard set of safety systems includes eight airbags, cruise control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. A feature of more expensive trim levels is such a function as dynamic cornering lights - the I-AFS system allows the headlights to "peek" around the corner.

Lexus GS300 is a comfortable, dynamic and richly equipped car. As for the overall reliability of the machine, the safety margin of components and assemblies, they are quite high, although, in the absence of timely maintenance, the characteristic "problem of the fifth cylinder" in the engine can manifest itself, and the "maintenance-free" gearbox still requires attention even with aggressive driving does not have a great resource.

At the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event in August 2011, the long-awaited premiere of the new 4 generation Lexus GS sedan in the L10 body took place. The novelty was presented to the general public at the motor show in Frankfurt a month later.

The design of the car follows the style of the concept first shown at the April New York Auto Show. Compared to its predecessor, the new Lexus GS 2018-2019 looks more sporty and fit.

Configurations and prices Lexus GS 2016.

The Lexus GS 4 features an hourglass-shaped radiator grille, LED head optics, an aggressive front bumper, stylish taillights and a small diffuser between two wide exhaust pipes.

The interior of the new 2017 Lexus GS is even more luxurious - the seats are upholstered in high-quality leather, natural wood is used in the trim, and the center console is crowned with a large eight-inch infotainment screen (12.3 inches in the version with the navigation package).

In addition, the sedan is equipped with an energy-efficient climate control system that automatically recognizes the presence or absence of passengers, an analog clock in the center console and a Mark Levinson audio system with 17 speakers, available as an option.

Technically, the 4th generation Lexus GS is built on an upgraded platform with a wider, compared to its predecessor, 40 mm track at the front and 50 mm at the rear, as well as a completely new multi-link rear suspension. The overall length of the novelty is 4,848 mm (wheelbase is 2,850), the width is 1,840, and the height is 1,455.

As powertrains for the Lexus GS 2020, two gasoline V6s and a hybrid power plant are offered. Initially, they presented the all-wheel drive version of the GS 350 with a 3.5-liter 343 hp engine, and then declassified the base version with rear-wheel drive and a 209-horsepower 2.5-liter engine.

Hybrid Lexus GS 450h combines a gasoline "six" and an electric motor, which in total develop 317 forces and 352 Nm of maximum torque, which is transmitted to all wheels. The transmission for all sedan variants is exclusively automatic. In addition, for the first time, a version with more aggressive bumpers and an adaptive chassis became available for the model.

At the time of sales, it was possible to buy a new Lexus GS in Russia at a price of 2,451,000 rubles for the basic GS 250, and for a more powerful GS 350 with all-wheel drive they asked for at least 3,233,000 rubles. Those wishing to purchase a hybrid sedan GS 450h had to collect an amount from 3,792,000 to 4,366,000 rubles, depending on the configuration. Later dealers began to offer the only version of the GS 350 with all-wheel drive in the Advance version for 3,666,000 rubles.

At the Pebble Beach Automotive Elegance Competition in August 2015, the Japanese presented the updated and 2017 GS sedan model year. The car received a number of exterior styling changes that had previously debuted on.

The restyled Lexus GS has got a new radiator grille with chrome surround, a different front bumper and a redesigned head optics, which have already become fully LED in the base, and the running light boomerangs are now separated from the main blocks.

At the rear, the sedan features redesigned headlights, plus new wheel designs and three additional body paint options are available: Matador Red Mica, Black Nightfall Mica and Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0. New colors and materials are also offered for the interior trim.

In addition, the interior of the Lexus GS 2020 has got a different steering wheel, increased to 4.2 inches by the screen on the instrument panel, as well as a redesigned clock on the center console, which is equipped with an automatic time zone change function, determined by GPS. Plus, a proprietary package of Lexus Safety System + safety systems appeared.

The basic version of the GS 250 was replaced by the GS 200t modification with a two-liter gasoline "turbo four" with a capacity of 245 hp. (350 Nm), which previously appeared on and. With it, the car spends an average of 7.1 liters per hundred, and the dynamic characteristics are not specified.

The intermediate Lexus GS 350 got an eight-speed automatic instead of the previous six-speed one, but the hybrid version of the GS 450h remained unchanged in terms of technology. The start date of sales and prices for the new product will be announced later.
