Yokohama Ice Guard IG65 - complete safety on winter roads

Winter tires Yokohama Ice guard The IG65, designed by engineers from a Japanese tire holding company, made its global debut in March 2017. During the tests carried out during the development phase of this model, the product has demonstrated impressive performance, controllability and dynamics on slippery roads... Thanks to the special tread design, the rubber provides safe braking on snow, confidently holds the road on sharp turns, and instantly responds to steering commands.

Design and function of tread elements

The tread part of the Yokohama Ice Guard IG65 winter tire consists of the following elements:

  • The central rib with sawtooth contours is responsible for stabilizing movement and increasing directional stability on a straight road, and reduces the acceleration time.

  • The spikes, the bases of which are cut deep into the internal structure of the compound, provide reliable protection from slipping and slipping of wheels on the asphalt covered with an ice crust.
  • Interlocking stepped sipes enhance traction and help you navigate safely on snow-covered roads.
  • Sharp-edged shoulder blocks increase traction on snow and ice by bumping into slippery surfaces. They also prevent uncontrolled side-slip of the wheels when maneuvering.

  • Wedge-shaped drainage grooves drain dirt and melt water from under the wheels, preventing tires from losing grip on wet surfaces.

Adapted rubber compound

To adapt the tire to extreme temperature fluctuations and improve grip on snowy surfaces, the developers have increased the concentration of silica and silicon additives in the rubber compound. Due to the increased content of these ingredients, the compound remains resilient and elastic even in extreme cold weather, when cheaper economy-class tires begin to "stone" and lose their flexibility.

Environmental Compliance

The components that are part of the rubber have a natural base and do not pose the slightest danger to the environment. The environmental friendliness of tires is also due to the fact that the car consumes less fuel with them, since the surface of the tread elements has rather low rolling resistance. Consequently, when driving, the car will pollute the surrounding air to a lesser extent. exhaust gases which may contain toxic substances.

The Yokohama iceGuard Stud iG65 winter studded tire is designed for wide range premium cars and crossovers. The iceGuard Stud iG65 incorporates cutting-edge technology from Japanese engineers and technologists to dramatically improve the tire's performance on ice. The Yokohama iceGuard Stud iG65 tire guarantees an excellent balance of performance on all types of winter roads.

A new type of cleat with a wide polygon core provides improved grip in all directions. The iG65 offers improved traction and shorter braking distances on ice thanks to its optimized placement and increased stud count. The polygonal base firmly fixes the stud in the bore, preventing premature loss.

The Yokohama iceGuard Stud iG65 features a directional tread pattern with silica and orange oil. The optimal alignment of the intersecting ramp, wide lateral and zigzag grooves has improved the tire's performance on icy, snowy and wet roads. The combination of self-locking 2D and 3D sipes provided the tread with additional grip edges without losing block rigidity.

Pavel about the tire Yokohama ice Guard IG65

The longitudinal rib in the central part of the fish reminds me of why my wife and I are kidding - it's time to change the saw or it's too early. It's not too early, I ran off for three weeks on the novelty of the last season. This turns out to be the second season, it is not yet rich in ice and snow, and I am telling you how the first one went. And I got on the bare ice, and in a mush of snow, and in puddles at the end of the season. What can I say, Yokohama knows his business and engineers, designing the drawing and taking into account all the components of the product, do not eat their bread for nothing, because the control of the machine pleases me pleasantly. I feel comfortable and confidently driving, not straining in anticipation of vybryk from the side of the car on rubber, and before winter was a difficult period, because the car ran on native Russian rubber, that's all, I will not buy a rubber product developed by our specialists anymore. Only yokagama, though not the cheapest.

I used to ride the IG55, because I decided to test the IG65 from production. Basically, old model I was completely satisfied, but with the IG65 it became clear that there is no limit to perfection) Take it, you will not regret it!

Nikita about the Yokohama Ice Guard IG65 tire

I put the wheels on at the first cold snap. There was no snow. The first 200-300 km on dry asphalt were terrifying! At a speed slightly above 40 - as if you are driving crawler tractor! At 100 km / h, my head hurt. (well, maybe the head is like that, more from frustration, probably)

Then this sound began to go to higher speeds.

Now - after 2000 km - the sound has returned to normal. Yes, he is, but very normal, I don't have a headache!) I don't notice anymore. And when there is snow on the road, there is generally silence.

The rubber is comfortable. The suspension on the 2nd generation Tiguan is rigid. This rubber dampens bumps in the road very well. The thorns are in place. And they are very felt above the rubber level.

I like this IG65. I advise. But don't worry right after installation - the noise will go away.

Took rubber Yokohama Ice Guard Ig65 205? 55 r16. Prior to that, for 12 years, I rode in winter only on winter Gislaved. Nord frost 5 left for 4 seasons, after the third there were practically no thorns left and it was decided to try something new. Ice Guard IG65 is just a novelty of 2017 and attracted its attention both for the price and design of the tire. In addition, my summer tires from this company were worthy of 4 years. On October 29, 2018, the tires were installed. At the time of writing this review, it has covered 2,900 km. After running in about 800 km, it was tested on dry asphalt, on a wet track, on ice, as well as on snow. Impressions from operation ... Unlike the Gislaved, the lack of hum at a speed of about 90 km / h pleases. The noise of the spikes in the cabin is not audible at all. Someone wrote that they behave badly up to their knees ... I drove in the rain and in the snow and in porridge ... Who lives in St. Petersburg and drives along the Vyborg highway, knows what kind of deep track in the left lane near Osinovaya Roshcha. Rubber behaved with dignity .. The car does not throw anywhere. As for driving in the snow, it also holds the road well, the car does not skid when cornering, although several times I deliberately tried to enter the car into a skid. But about deep snow ... The tread pattern is not for off-road, of course ... But so far I have never got stuck. Boxing, but rowing and pulling ... I don’t regret buying a lot. While all the thorns are in place. After the end of the winter season, it will be clear what the quality of studding is, but now all the studs are in place and are performing their functions remarkably!

Vadim about the Yokohama Ice Guard IG65 tire

I didn’t drive much, but I’ll say right away - very soft, they work out bumps well, handling is excellent on the track, on ice without problems, the only thing when leaving the rut is lacking a more developed shoulder zone, in general I am satisfied, very decent tires.

Mishan about the Yokohama Ice Guard IG65 tire

This is the biggest disappointment I have experienced. After watching video reviews and vaunted articles bloggers bought this samurai. Before that, there was BU hack 7 and you know I was more satisfied and calm about the behavior of my car. Mokka with the course is still buzzing, but I don’t work on this rubber sipe at all: the snow just sticks to the surface and the effect of sliding is obtained. It pissed me off terribly. It is not comfortable on dry asphalt, it does not make much noise, but in terms of grip - a cow on ice. It is not at all clear what element is for her. After such rubber, I really wanted, yes, at least a karmoron Velcro for 20 rubles than this one for 35. During the winter I lost 1 thorn.

Alexander on the Yokohama Ice Guard IG65 tire

Normal tires. Excellent brakes and accelerates. They keep the road normally. ESP is silent. Not expensive. The only thing they seem to be small when they stood in the window next to the tires of other brands. For me, not noisy :) normal Shumka car at the factory was not stolen as they steal on Korean and Japanese cars... Definitely better and safer than friction. Recommend.
