Comparison of Datsun on-DO and Lada Granta. Technical characteristics of Datsun on-DO, reviews, prices and configurations Who manufactures auto Datsun

home / Advice

In Togliatti, the release of a new budget foreign car has begun - the Datsun sedan with a strange name on-DO, developed specifically for the Russian market, a joint creation of the Russian-French-Japanese alliance.

New President. Growing up in southern Sweden, he joined the Swedish armed forces at the age of 19. He is a graduate of the Swedish Military Academy, holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Stockholm University and is a graduate of the senior management program at Harvard University. In the Swedish armed forces, he rose to the rank of major.

The board of directors of AvtoVAZ approved Andersson as president on November 5, 2013. He took office on January 13, 2014. From that time on, Bo Andersson became chairman of the board of AvtoVAZ.

“The first thing I did was go to production. Early in the morning I went to several restrooms and found that they were very dirty and some did not work at all. The team was well prepared for the meeting with me, because it had three months for this, so I did not need an official introduction to the team. I said, “Focus on one thing today - latrines. Make sure people can use them. "

1. And he did! And not just restrooms. The area is very clean! In communication, gentle, intelligent and very success-oriented. Lives in Togliatti, flies in economy class.

2. On the territory of the enterprise it is absolutely forbidden to smoke, litter and ride mopeds. Therefore, if you need to go to another workshop, then you take a bike and drove it.

3. The very line of the conveyor is two-story. The car is assembled in several stages.

4. Installation of interior elements. Throughout the assembly path, it is recorded on the sheets what, where and by whom was installed in a given car. In the photo - the sheet on the right.

5. Assembly of the Datsun on-DO cabin. In fact, Datsun is LadaGranta, but only Datsun

7. At one time, the Kalina conveyor became a real breakthrough in the domestic auto industry: robotic welding lines were supplied by Kuka, a fully automated painting complex - Eisenmann.

Undercarriage assembly line:

8. Now the AvtoVAZ conveyor produces 817 vehicles every day on the Kalinovskaya platform, of which 60 are Datsun on-DO. If the public tastes the novelty, the plant is ready to introduce a third shift.

9. There are a lot of women in the company. Wait like this all day with your hands up!

11. This is how Datsun's driver's seat looks like:

12. A month later, LADA switches to pre-order from consumers. If you buy the cheapest complete set, you can order whatever you want in it. But you have to wait. The car will be assembled to order.

14. Screwing the heat shield to Datsun:

16. It is very strict to ensure that all parts of the machine that may be damaged are covered with a protective film.

17. Filling process fluids:

18. If something is wrong, write the following notes:

19. Line for filling with liquids and the first start of the engine.

20. Such cleaners go around the shops. Everything is straight sterile!

21. OTK. Verify numbers, equipment. The engine is started and sent to the stand, where the wheel alignment is done.

22. Additional visual and mechanical check of assembly quality.

23. Information stand:

24. Grease, touch-up, check.

25. And now, the finished car is sent to a car dealership. Personally, I have a great impression of the plant. Of course, the muddy guards, the pretentious and tastelessly dressed managers have not gone anywhere. But things are moving forward.

26. Lada Granta and Datsun on-DO are cars of the same level, the recently announced price tag also proves. In the basic version, which offers electric power and steering adjustment, heated front seats, folding rear seats, ABS, as well as a driver's airbag and a child seat mounting system, Datsun on-DO is available for 329 thousand rubles. For comparison, a similarly equipped Grant costs 324,400 rubles.

And the brand's management promises a higher level of service: supposedly, the managers of car dealerships, of which only 25 will open at first, will be more polite, and the service will be of better quality. Let's see.

An article about Datsun cars: history of the brand, Datsun models in Russia and their characteristics, brand prospects in the Russian market. At the end of the article - a video about the pros and cons of Datsun On-Do.

The content of the article:

Budget-class cars are traditionally very popular among Russians due to the relatively low level of income of the population.

However, it is wrong to think that budget cars are bad - they often use time-tested technical solutions and have an excellent price / quality ratio, which automatically turns them into reliable "hard workers" capable of performing their daily tasks without unnecessary pathos.

One of the representatives of such cars in Russia is the Japanese brand Datsun, the model range of which in our country is represented by two cars - the On-Do sedan and the Mi-Do compact hatchback. This manufacturer, even if it does not enjoy overwhelming success, has a stable demand among our fellow citizens.

The history of the Datsun brand

In the photo: Datsun 240Z

The history of the brand dates back to 1911 - it was then that M. Hashimoto founded a small company called Kaisinsha.

Three years later, the first car was produced, which received the name Dat-Go - it is formed from the first letters of the names of the main investors. In 1918, the company received a new name - Kwaishinsha Motor Car and began to manufacture small trucks aimed at meeting the military needs of the country.

In 1920, due to a decrease in demand for military vehicles, the company's management thought about merging with other car brands. In 1926, the two brands were merged, as a result of which the company received a new name - DAT Jidosha Seizo Co.

The first significant project of the newly-made brand was the creation of a compact car with an engine volume of less than 500 cubic meters. It was planned to be produced under the name "Datson" ("son of DAT"), but since the word "son" was consonant with the Japanese word for "damage", the car was named Datsun.

In 1934, the manufacturer's name was changed to Nissan Motor Co. After 3 years, Japan began military action against China, after which the Datsun plant was redesigned for the production of freight vehicles.

It is noteworthy that until 1958, the company's passenger models were produced exclusively under the Datsun brand, while under the Nissan logo, trucks were mainly produced.

In 1958, the company began supplying Datsun cars to the US market, and a year later the dealer network of the Japanese brand covered all the states of America, offering in them not only 113, but also 310 models, better known as "Bluebird".

Since 1962, machines under the Datsun brand have been exported to the European market. In subsequent years, the company produced such models as the Datsun 1000, B10, Bluebird 510 and the legendary 240Z, which went down in history as one of the most affordable sports cars. It was thanks to the 240Z that the brand managed to become the main prize-winner of the East African Rally twice.

In 1981, the brand's management decided to rename the Datsun brand to Nissan, which took about 5 years and over 500 thousand dollars. Curiously, even after the renaming process was completed, the Datsun brand was more recognizable than the Nissan brand.

In 2012, the auto concern Nissan made a strong-willed decision to "resurrect" the once popular brand Datsun, which was assigned the role of a manufacturer of inexpensive cars for developing countries, including Russia.

The history of Datsun in Russia began in 2012, after an agreement was signed between the Renault-Nissan automobile alliance and the domestic AvtoVAZ on the development and assembly of Datsun cars at the facilities of the Togliatti Automobile Plant.

The debut of the first model of the company took place in the spring of 2014 - it was the budget sedan On-Do, built on the basis of the front-wheel drive Lada Granta.

The second model was presented in February 2015 - it was the Mi-Do hatchback, specially designed for the Russian market based on the domestic Lada Kalina.

Main features of On-Do and Mi-Do models

Sales of the On-Do sedan in Russia started in the summer of 2014. Its main competitors are AvtoVAZ cars and second-hand "foreign cars".

The machine has the following dimensions:

Length, mm4337
Width, mm1700
Height, mm1500
Wheelbase, mm2476

The ground clearance height deserves special attention, which is an impressive 185 mm, which even some crossovers presented in Russia can envy.

The car interior has a frankly budgetary appearance. Nevertheless, the assembly and quality of materials are noticeably superior to those in Lada Granta. Inside the car, 5 adult riders can sit, but the rear center rider will be slightly uncomfortable with the high transmission tunnel.

Trunk volume is 530 liters, which is one of the best in the class.

Under the hood of the car is a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, available in two boost levels - 82 and 87 hp. A pair of it is either a 5-level manual transmission, or a 4-band "automatic".

Despite its budget, the top-end equipment of the car is capable of boasting the presence of:

  • 15-inch light-alloy "rollers";
  • fog light;
  • electric windows for all doors;
  • central lock;
  • climate control;
  • electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors;
  • multimedia systems with 7 "monitor and navigation;
  • rear parking sensors;
  • light / rain sensors;
  • frontal airbags;
  • ESC, ABS and BAS systems.
The main feature of Datsun On-Do, whoever says anything, is the price starting at 374 thousand rubles.

If we talk about the Mi-Do model, then its sales began in 2015. Externally, the car completely repeats the decisions of Lada Kalina, the only exception is the front part, made in the corporate key of the "revived" brand.

The dimensions of the Mi-Do are:

Length, mm3950
Width, mm1700
Height, mm1500
Wheelbase, mm2476

The hatchback rises above the roadway by 174 mm, which is a very good indicator for a car of this class.

The interior design of the car completely repeats that in the On-Do model, which means that potential buyers can count on budget finishing materials and good build quality. Inside the car can accommodate 5 passengers, although the back row does not shine with an abundance of free space, so four of us are better off on long trips.

Trunk volume is only 260 liters, which can be slightly increased due to the folding second row of seats. However, you cannot count on a flat loading area.

The hatchback is driven by an engine similar to the Datsun On-Do model, also presented in an after-load of 82 and 87 hp.

The budget equipment is frankly poor, but the top-end version offers:

  • 15-inch light-alloy rollers;
  • fog lights;
  • central locking;
  • power windows for all doors;
  • cruise control with speed limiter;
  • navigation;
  • light sensor / rain sensor;
  • ESC, ABS and BAS systems;
  • climate control;
  • heated windshield;
The minimum price for Datsun Mi-Do is 445 thousand rubles.

Company plans for the near future

There are rumors that two new Datsun models may be presented in Russia closer to 2020, one of which will be a crossover. Unfortunately, there is no exact information about the models yet, but it is assumed that the new crossover will be based on the bestseller of the Russian market in the person of Renault Duster.

In the Indian market, the company is selling the seven-seater Datsun Go + station wagon with might and main, and in the Indonesian market - the Datsun Cross compact crossover, which was introduced in January 2018.

The station wagon is based on the Nissan Micra chassis and boasts a 1.2-liter, 68-horsepower petrol engine. The Datsun Cross model is equipped with a similar engine, however, two degrees of boost are offered for it - for 68 and 78 hp.

Conclusion

Today the Datsun brand is one of the main players in the class of budget cars on the Russian market. As of the end of 2018, the brand was ranked 17th in the ranking of the best-selling cars in the Russian Federation, and there is no doubt that the company is heading in the right direction and, if the current concept is maintained, in the next few years, it is quite possible that it will be able to enter the TOP 10 most popular brands in Russia.

Video about the pros and cons of Datsun On-Do:

NATC GROUP is the official Nissan representative in Russia. They carefully monitor changes in the requirements of their customers. The economic indicators of countries are changing, the standard of living is increasing, more and more potential customers are looking confidently into the future and have long-term plans. Based on this, the brand's distributor continues in Russia the strategy chosen by the company for Japan, where Datsun is produced. The main principle of work is instant reaction and reflection of the client's needs in new models of machines.

In 1980, Nissan suspended the Datsun brand, but today it has decided to revive its successful line of vehicles. At the moment, the concern operates three well-known brands - Datsun, Infinity and Nissan. They are divided between three target audience segments.

According to this idea, the manufacturer Datsun will distribute cars with a hexagonal logo on the body as a local continuation of the global concern. This builds consumer confidence and makes the resurgent brand a great advertisement. At the same time, the Nissan Power 88 strategy assumes the harmonious development and promotion of all three brands to the global market in order to meet the expectations of different groups of buyers.

Our values

  • D ream - Dream. Dream with us, discover new opportunities, conquer previously unattainable peaks.
  • A ccess - Accessibility. The brand concept implies the fulfillment of the desire to own a reliable and stylish car.
  • T rust - Trust. The manufacturer guarantees the high quality of Datsun cars as another confirmation of the impeccable reputation of Nissan and Infinity.

Datsun cars embody all the best that the concern has achieved over 80 years of existence. Following the achievements of Nissan and implementing its own unique developments, the manufacturer creates cars that are attracting more and more attention from buyers in countries with actively developing economies.

Following the return of the Datsun brand to the global market, Nissan has introduced its updated symbol - a new hexagonal logo designed to emphasize the modern style of these cars. By retaining part of the original logo, the company demonstrates its commitment to tradition and fundamental principles - sincerity that leads to success, and a responsible attitude to work to make reliable products.

THE EPOCH OF DATSUN

THE EPOCH OF DATSUN

It all started with the Kaishin Sha Motor Works in Tokyo's Azabu-Hiru neighborhood.

1911

The founder of the factory, 37-year-old Masujiro Hashimoto (1875-1944) graduated from the Tokyo Industrial School in Kuramae, after which the Ministry of Agriculture and Trade of Japan sent him as the best graduate to study engineering in the United States. Hashimoto-san returned to Japan with the firm intention of starting car production.

1914

Hashimoto's cars are marketed under the name DAT. This abbreviation is derived from the initial letters of the major investors in the Kaishin-sha factory, Kinjiro Dena, Rokuro Aoyama and Meitaro Takeuchi. This name also reflects the concept of DAT cars of that time: Durable - reliable, Attractive - attractive, Trustworthy - trustworthy.

1919

Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha (Practical Car Company) is established in Osaka. She is considered to be another progenitor of the modern Datsun. The company produces three- and four-wheeled auto rickshaws designed by the American aircraft designer William Gorham (1888 - 1949). Passionate Japaneseophile, Mr. Gorham settled in Japan, took the name Gohamo Katsundo and did not leave the islands even during the Second World War. Because Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha used American machine tools and imported parts and materials from the United States, Gorham cars were renowned for their quality and reliability.

1926

The companies "Kwaisin-xia" and "Jitsuyo Jidosya Seizo Kaisha" are merging. The new company is named DAT Jidosha Seizo.

1931

The Datson subcompact begins production in Osaka at a factory formerly owned by Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha. The name literally translates as "son of DAT", but it would be more accurate to express "child of DAT". Later, the name of the car was changed to Datsun, since "son" is consonant with the Japanese word for "loss". Brand cars get a new logo.

1933

On December 26, everything related to the production of cars in the Nihon Sanyo zaibatsu is taken over by the new company Jidosha Seizo Kabushiki Kaisha. English name - Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Production of the Datsun 12 begins.

1934

In June, the company was renamed Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. 59% of its assets are owned by Nihon Sanyo, 39% by Tobata Foundation, and the remaining 2% are distributed among members of the Yoshisuke Ayukawa family. Production of the Datsun 13 begins in April. The first car samples are exported.

1935

On April 12, the opening of a new plant in Yokohama took place. This is the first enterprise in Japan where the production of cars was carried out by the conveyor method. The first model to roll off the conveyor belt was the Datsun 14 sedan. The plant produced about 500 cars a month.

1955

In January, production of the Datsun 110 begins. After several attempts to build a state-of-the-art vehicle, this is the first real success. At the Second Tokyo Motor Show, which opened in May at Hibuya Park, the Datsun 110 was a sensation.

1957

Since November 1957, the Datsun 1000, also known as the Datsun 210, has been produced. Although it looks like the Datsun 110, it summarizes the experience gained from dealing with Austin specialists.

1958

On January 10, the Datsun S211 cruising roadster was demonstrated on the rooftop of the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi department store in Tokyo. Its designer, Hiro Ohta, followed the finest British sports cars of the day.

1959

In August, the Datsun Bluebird 310 is presented - a new word in the history of the brand. Model Designer - Teichi Hara. The car received a monocoque body of modern proportions (length - 3910 mm, wheelbase - 2280 mm) and an independent double wishbone front suspension. The car's name, Bluebird, refers to a play by Maurice Maeterlinck.

1961

Nissan Mexicana S.A. Manufacturing Division is formed in September. de C.V. Five years later, it will start producing cars.

1966

On February 19, the company announces the results of the competition for the name of a new subcompact model, known under the in-house designation Datsun B10. Most of the eight and a half million participants chose the name Sunny - "Sunny". The Datsun Sunny was first introduced to the general public in April, and mass production began at the Zama plant in June.

2012

In March, Carlos Ghosn, President and Chief Executive Officer, announced plans for Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. to revive the Datsun brand as part of the Power 88 strategic development plan.

2013

On July 15, 2013, Carlos Ghosn presented the new Datsun Go car in India. The model is designed for young buyers. The three pillars of the reborn Datsun are Dream, Access and Trust. Datsun vehicles will be represented in the fastest growing markets in India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa.

I got to the AVTOVAZ plant thanks to the launch of the production of the Datsun on-DO family sedan, developed specifically for the Russian market. The opening took place without much fanfare, they said the words, shook hands, opened the curtain, rolled out the car. TA-dah! Everything. The most interesting thing for me was to look at how the Zhiguli is assembled, about quality control, about the assembly line of the b0 conveyor (a joint creation of the Russian-French-Japanese alliance).

"Case of the BO master"

The board of directors of JSC AVTOVAZ approved Andersson as president from November 5, 2013. He took office on January 13, 2014. Since that time, Bo Andersson became the chairman of the board of AVTOVAZ.

A little about the plant where Datsun is assembled

The production of the Datsun on-Do model and the entire Datsan brand will take place at the facilities of the AvtoVAZ plant in Togliatti.

In the picture above, we see just the moment the sedan is being assembled at the enterprise.

But we all know about the “walled off” place where the current Lada cars are produced. What can you expect from Datsan?

According to the official statements of the company in preparation for the Datsun project, a lot of modernization was done and enough attention was paid to the process of this very preparation. Last year, Nissan audited the VAZ assembly line, which will be used to assemble the on-Do sedan. And as you know, more than forty recommendations were issued to improve production.

These recommendations included such things as: -the introduction of new standards for quality control of products; -expansion of the final acceptance area of the car; -replacement of equipment, even such as boxes for dragging and dropping parts; and many others.

How much better Datsun Lada: long test - test drive, review of Datsun mi-DO, Datsun on-DO

The two burned their passports, went to plastic surgeons and started a new life in Russia incognito, posing as Japanese citizens. But with close contact with Datsun, anyone familiar with AvtoVAZ products will quickly see through old acquaintances. The humming gearbox and grunting engine will be the first to give out. This is followed by poor build quality. But it will not do without pleasant discoveries. So what did Lada change to become Japanese: personality or just a mask?

Despite the different design of the head optics, the headlights of both models shine very decently

We drove two different Datsuns for two months and came to the conclusion that the best choice is a sedan with a mechanics in the middle-upper configuration. But the mi-Do hatchback is one of the most affordable models with an “automatic” on the Russian market. And for the sake of this, you can probably endure some inconvenience. For example, that you can hardly ever get used to the strange behavior of the brake pedal, which I detailed in the first part of the long-term Datsun test. Probably, the headlights and radiator grill for this model will be in high demand.

Another feature of the automatic Datsun is the ability to ... stall when stopped! Once again - a car with an automatic transmission, without newfangled start-stop systems, can take and stall during a stop. Datsun representatives are aware of this problem and promise to fix it soon. The machine selector also does not shine with convenience - when you turn on D, no, no, but you will slip further into position 1 or 2. You realize a mistake after the start, when the box, following the instructions not to switch higher, will make the engine run noisily at high revs.

If you do not pay attention to the numerous extraneous sounds, the noise isolation in Datsun is decent by the standards of the class.

The manual transmission on the test sedan worked adequately, but annoyed with the familiar VAZ howl. The mi-Do hatchback responded with a rumble somewhere in the front suspension or steering, as well as the creak of seats and interior panels. Even more egregious was the groan of the hatch body during ... any heavy braking! Against this background, the whistle of the pads was taken for granted. However, the sedan also did not strive to seem quiet: its pedals creaked just like on a hatchback, and the hood hinges emitted a juicy crunch when it was lifted. It seems that the Datsun is the first Japanese car in history that requires a native Russian "pull" after leaving a car dealership.

Numerous flaws in the Datsun assembly give them a donor named Lada. The engine "sweats" in the area of the valve cover gasket - a well-known disease of VAZ units. Fasteners in the engine compartment rust intensively

And if from the point of view of the number of extraneous sounds the test on-Do nevertheless turned out to be more solid, then in terms of the build quality of the body it was already inferior to a specific mi-Do. On the sedan, the trunk lid tore itself against the rear wing, and the front wing does not form a single plane with the door. The same problem with the fuel filler flap and rear fender. The front bumper fitted perfectly on the five-door, but not very well on the four-door model. The badges on the radiator grilles are peeling off on both almost new cars. The doors are thin and close loudly, and when you turn on the audio system, cheap speakers dully hoot in them.

The automatic mode of the window regulator is not activated immediately, and the glass itself does not drop completely, even in front. Climate control is made on the principle of warm-cold and does not allow setting the exact temperature value in automatic mode

Inside the sedan, you can see how the plastic linings on the front roof pillars have swelled up from the heat of the hot summer sun. The interior of both models has a pronounced "Zhiguli" flavor. There are also questions about ergonomics: in order to close the driver's door from the inside, you have to literally dive into the opening. The steering wheel is not adjustable for departure, so not everyone will pick up the perfect fit. But comfortable chairs please: it will not be difficult to overcome a long route in them. There are also small joys in the cabin: an easy-to-read instrument panel, a convenient niche for a mobile phone and a turn signal trained in triple blinking.

The beautiful cornflower-blue frame of the scales suddenly starts playing with color in the sun. The on-board computer shows the power reserve dynamically: how you press the pedal at a particular moment, how many kilometers you will be shown

Most of all, "Datsuns" were pleased with the fact that they are easy to drive fast. Excellent visibility, quite vigorous engine and omnivorous suspension allow you to rush without disassembling the road. At such moments, efforts on the controls and extraneous sounds become uncritical. True, you have to come to terms with almost motorcycle rolls, as well as the fact that there is no more reliable information on the steering wheel than on central television channels.

In the rain frail "Zhiguli" windshield wipers do their job mediocre. The signaling of one of the test machines sometimes allowed itself to be randomly triggered.

On-Do and mi-DO are about as much better than our native original, as much as more expensive - about 10%.

Datsun Avtovaz »Datsun in Russia - all about Nissan Datsun cars

About Datsun

In March 2012, Nissan Motor announced the "revival" of the legendary Datsun brand - the company's third global brand, in addition to the beloved Nissan and Infinity. The Datsun brand is specifically designed to meet the demand of active and energetic consumers in fast developing countries for a reliable car. Datsun is an integral part of Nissan history and combines 80 years of experience of the best Japanese specialists in the production of passenger cars. The Datsun name reflects the core brand values: Dream, Access and Trust. Datsun is ready to provide its customers with a reliable car at an attractive, competitive price, moreover, to provide them with an affordable and convenient service with transparent pricing. Datsun products are already successfully sold in India, Indonesia, South Africa and Russia!

History of Datsun

The Datsun brand was founded in Japan almost 100 years ago, in 1914, and was originally called DAT-GO (in English - DAT-car). "DAT" in Japanese means "lightning fast", moreover, it is an abbreviation, consisting of three capital letters of the partners' surnames: Den, Aoyama, Takeuchi. Later it was decided that these same letters would reflect the main characteristics of the brand: durable, attractive, trustworthy - DAT.

In 1933, Yoshizuke Ayukawa, the founding father of the company, decided to pursue the idea of "mobility for all" and launched a lightweight, economical and agile vehicle specially designed for young Japanese people. The new brand was named Datson - the son of DAT (son of DAT), and a little later was renamed Datsun. Talented engineers and large-scale production volumes helped make the company's founder's dream come true!
