Occasionally, the brains of the transmission even try unnecessarily: the driver has long calmed down, and the tachometer needle hangs at 4000 under the annoying hum of the engine. But everything that happened before is pure delight! The furious kickdown to start acceleration, the tachometer cranking to the red zone, and the highly efficient downshifts one after the other during braking are something that a knowledgeable driver is delighted to work with. The Tiguan has a lot more ride settings, but even all that flexibility can't deliver the emotional dynamics and clarity of the car-to-driver connection.
