Owner reviews

In the car for 1.5 million, the button for opening the 5 door was completely frozen (this is at -2 degrees), and condensation formed in the taillights. At the same time, fogging of both lanterns is not a warranty case (the officials billed 1,800 rubles for removing and installing the lanterns and drying them on a battery within 5 hours). This is the German quality ...

The gasoline consumption of the new Tiguan (automatic, 2.0 l) in winter, when driving with vegetables, did not fall below 16.5 l / 100 km. And this is after competent running-in (no more than 2,000 rpm for 1,500 km).

Liked: handling, comfort, dynamics, Shumka.

Disliked: fuel consumption, lack of USB input on the head unit.

Video review

Here they write about the steering wheel, yusb, etc. - it's all nonsense. The main drawback of the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2 is the fuel consumption of 15-16 liters ... If this is not stressful for you, then I envy it kindly.

Otherwise, the perfect crossover for the city. Optimal price-quality ratio. For six months of intense use, no questions asked.

Sergey Krel, drives a Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 (180 hp) AWD DSG 2016

We drive a new VW Tiguan 2 from March 2016. Equipment - CLUB. The first maintenance took place at 11 thousand km, i.e. earlier than 15 thousand. By the way, all VW dealers have a special offer on Sundays - a 20% discount on maintenance. Before passing MOT, they refueled 95, periodically there was some kind of whistle for a few seconds when starting the engine, then it disappeared, the speed dropped to 0.8 in two minutes. Gone MOT - everything is OK, changed the oil, filters.

They asked about the whistle, no one answered intelligibly. We live in Crimea, 98 gasoline has been delivered to us since September. We switched to it. And a miracle - the whistle is gone, the rpm after starting the engine drops in 10-15 seconds. The car is high-spirited, the turbine turns on when the driver needs it, i.e. when overtaking in low gear and helps a lot.

Noise isolation is good. When we bought it, they scared us with oil consumption - nothing like that. There was practically no expense. In general, comfortable, dignified, crossover))

Highway consumption - 5.4-6.0, city - 8-10, up to 11 - if there are traffic jams. There is a good function - Autohold - keeps the car on the descent and ascent, like a handbrake, when you need to get under way, you press the gas pedal and there is no rolling back at all.

Accelerates well and briskly, holds the track steadily. The speed of 120-130 km / h is not felt. I did not like the interior trim. The fabric would be better.

Irina, review of Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4 (125 hp) mechanic 2016

A very comfortable car, dynamic and economical, stylish and modern. The daily commute becomes a pleasure for the whole family. For 30 years of driving, I changed 10 cars - Tiguan did not disappoint. Of the shortcomings, I will only note that the seat upholstery material could be better.

Where can I buy?

The car was bought in the spring of 2017. I had three main requirements: diesel, webasto and off road bumper. I bought this one - Comfortline equipment + six option packages.

I often go outdoors (fishing, mushrooms), so I decided to change the BMW sedan to something higher. In principle, I am satisfied with the replacement, but, as they say, there are nuances. After the purchase, I pasted over the entire front of the car with a film (I drive quickly and sometimes far, and the headlights and paint become cloudy in a couple of years). I installed a mesh in the bumper - the radiators look too defenseless))

LED cornering lights, especially at night and in the rain - this is a class! I also liked the strips of LED lighting in the doors and sills, cozy.

I do not like the fabric upholstery on the doors - it gets dirty quickly. For some reason, several electrical connectors were placed under the neck of the washer reservoir - you miss a little, and liquid gets on them. In some modes, the rearview mirror shakes and vibrates. Dipped beam - well, very near.

Review of Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 diesel (150 hp) with robot and all-wheel drive 2017

The car is purely masculine in design, austere, as my friend says: “not very smart and not very simple, effective - that is, the golden mean”. I completely agree with him.

I'm 99% satisfied with the car. What was initially embarrassing was the harsh suspension. In my configuration, there are 18 discs, 17 are decently softer, but I still don't want to change the wheels. I really like how they look. About gas mileage - 9.8 liters yesterday from work to home. Today back 12 liters, collected all the traffic lights.

Aerodynamics are also on the level. Side windows get dirty only with birds, and cats walk on the hood and leave prints of their paws. This VW did not provide))

Review of the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 (180 HP) with a robot and all-wheel drive 2017

This is not to say that VW did not produce compact SUVs until 2007. For example, there was the Kübelwagen, aka Typ 82, which was made from 1939 to 1945, and in recent history, the 2nd generation Golf had an off-road configuration ... But the Touareg's unequivocal success and high demand for everything that remotely resembled an SUV , clearly hinted that it was time to release a small, and therefore practically "popular" crossover.

The public was shown a new car in 2006, and sales began only at the end of 2007. It turns out that the hero of today's review, the Volkswagen Tiguan, will soon celebrate its tenth anniversary. During this period, he managed to collect a large number of both positive and negative reviews, collect both fans and haters of the model. Whichever one is right, this is one of the most popular cars in its class, and its life cycle has just ended - last year on the MQB platform. It's time to take stock of the release of the old one.

Platform

Volkswagen Tiguan "2008-11

When creating a junior crossover model, the company did not reduce the large and expensive Touareg. The new car was created on the inexpensive mass platform PQ35, on which other cars of the concern were already produced. Of course, the engine of the new car stands transversely, the rear axle drive is connected via a Haldex clutch, a multi-link in the back, MacPherson strut in front. And everything for which the Golf and related cars love: excellent ergonomics, high quality of finishing and workmanship. And, of course, the car inherited all the negative qualities of this platform - not the most successful motors and gearboxes, as well as complex electronics and suspensions. However, first things first.

What is good about the Tiguan

The first reviews from journalists about the car were enthusiastic. The handling is excellent, the dynamics are very convincing, the fuel consumption with the 1.4 engine and diesel engines is extremely low. And even the off-road qualities of the car in the Trend & Fun, Sport & Style trim levels turned out to be very high, and the "road" version of Track & Field was limited primarily by the angles of the front exit due to the use of a more aerodynamic bumper.

Without much exaggeration, we can say that the car turned out to be one of the best in its class, surpassing both the Toyota RAV4 and the European bestseller Qashqai.

Boxed confusion

As usual, it was not without a fly in the ointment - very quickly the Europeans discovered that it was in off-road sorties that the preselective "robots", which VW was so proud of, did not perform well. The clutches quickly overheated when driving slowly over rough terrain. Probably for this reason, in the Russian versions of the car, they immediately refused to use even the very reliable DSG 6 and the new DSG 7 series DQ500 (with "wet" clutches).

The dubious "robot" was replaced with the classic Aisin hydromechanics, and with 1.4 engines, only "mechanics" were offered until 2011. "Wet" DSG-6 began to be installed only after restyling and only for front-wheel drive cars. The Europeans, however, put DSG on cars with 1.4 engines, and also with wet clutches, as with "adult" engines. For two-liter gasoline engines with a capacity of 170 and 180 hp. put Aisin until 2010, keeping DSG on more powerful ones. In general, the story with the automatic transmission is confused to the point of impossibility.

Assembly

A special detective story is associated with the choice of the place of production of the car. The Portuguese plant SEAT Auto Europa claimed a potentially very popular model, which would save jobs after the completion of the VW Sharan / Ford Galaxy. Both the government of the country and the trade unions took the side of the plant.

But keeping in mind that the quality of the cars of this plant is not the highest, VW nevertheless built a new Auto 5000 factory specifically for the production of the Tiguan in Germany, in Wolfsburg. At the same time, the specifics of assigning models to factories became known: it turns out that there is internal competition within the company among industries for the release of a certain model, and this competition is very tough. The presence of investors at the plant itself, and production indicators, and much more are taken into account. By the way, as a result, Tiguan was made not only in Wolfsburg, but also in the Russian Kaluga, and in Shanghai, and in the Vietnamese Haipong.

Breakdowns and problems in operation

Body and interior

The fame of indestructible, stainless and maintenance-free cars, which arose in the 90s on a wave of hobby, brought Volkswagen immense popularity in Russia. However, everything goes to the point that a "rollback" of public opinion will soon occur. And it's not just the DSG boxes. Well-painted bodies of both Kaluga and German cars look better in general aged than their Japanese competitors, and even some European ones. And plastic panels protect the paint from sandblasting and stones, which means they make the paintwork more reliable.

But corrosion gradually manifests itself at the seams, the sealant swells, red traces appear, paint flies in the most unexpected places, for example, on door openings. And this despite the fact that the average age of cars is still completely "childish", which means that all the problems have not yet appeared. In general, it is recommended to pay close attention to the state of the body in terms of corrosion, and not just on the subject of traces of accidents. By the way, the plastic door linings do not hold very well, and when mobility appears, they will easily spoil the paint at the attachment points, so keep the doorways clean, free of dirt and ice. If you already have a Tiguan, then you should think about an anticorrosive solution - it is much cheaper than solving problems with the body in another five years. The salon of cars on the PQ35 platform is generally distinguished by excellent ergonomics, high quality and ... boredom. The Tiguan is no exception. Comfortable, convenient and "gray" car will appeal to those who are not looking for new sensations, but simply thirst for quality and convenience.

Of course, there are disadvantages: for example, the seats are weak, the driver's mechanics often fail, and the "skin" of the coating turns out to be not very natural and completely unreliable - by 80 thousand run the leather seats look wrinkled. A typical problem for all platform machines is crickets in the ductwork. Here, too, extraneous noise is often created by the right air duct and its flaps. And also frankly tight door seals, which at first interfere with easy closing, literally after three or four years, they crumble and start making noise and letting dust and dirt from the street. Most often, the problem is eliminated with an extra layer of seals, because installing a new original will again make the door slam, like in old Zhiguli. Not too reliable climate block of dorestyling cars is sometimes changed to a new one, with "twists", without waiting for failures, and in general, thanks to the multitude of cars on this platform, some of them have long turned into "constructors". On used copies, there are buttons from other trim levels, and boxes for seats with Audi, and lighting with a Passat, and seats with a Golf GTI.

Don't be too scared. The owners really like the car, but the simplicity of its interior is annoying for many, so, armed with catalogs, many are looking for interesting configurations from soplatform cars. Then, armed with Vasya the diagnostician, they courageously install unknown options and devices. What cannot be installed is normal navigation, and in general multimedia is not the most successful here. Poor support for Android and iOS devices, lack of normal display of traffic jams, high price for a frankly outdated solution ... These features can be forgiven for the cheaper Golf, but the crossover is much more expensive and such greed of the manufacturer already looks bad. A rather serious problem is the tendency of machines on this platform to clog drainage and gradually wet the floor mats. This leads to multiple electronics failures and problems with the wiring harness, especially the part that goes to the front right door. There are also cars with assembly flaws, and not always Russian. Poorly screwed elements, incomprehensible "crickets" are not necessarily the result of interior repairs. There are copies that clearly have these problems from a factory in Germany.

Electrician

As you understand, the electrical part can cause a lot of hassle on cars over the age of three to five years. Moreover, for the younger ones, there are no problems at all, except with multimedia systems. As a result, opinions differ greatly: someone is already faced with difficult-to-solve electrical problems and curses everyone and everything, and someone by the age of five has no serious breakdowns and only sees with displeasure an increasing oil appetite. In general, the electrician is quite reliable and does not irritate with minor glitches and failures. In addition, it looks like more than a dozen car models, and it is well known both in official and unofficial services. Only problems can be treated in very different ways, if they have already appeared. Officials often have to replace harnesses and blocks, which turns out to be very expensive, and for craftsmen - local repairs, replacing individual parts of harnesses, drying connectors ...

If you take care of the door harnesses, do not allow the connectors to sour, monitor the drainage of the engine shield and do not flood the engine compartment with dirt, then there are good chances that the car will be limited only to annoying failures, for example, climatronic or taillights. In the fourth or fifth year of life, you can expect the "death" of the battery. The load on it is large, the generator operates at low voltage even at negative temperatures. On the oldest cars, it is recommended to pay close attention to the wiring to the steering rack, there are quite large currents, and if the connectors are sealed, they simply burn out. Replacing the rail and wiring harness can be up to half the cost of the car, so it's best to be sure in advance. But in general, as you can imagine, the price of electrical repairs can be shocking.

Chassis

To the credit of the PQ35 platform, all VW cars can be considered almost perfect in this. Even taking into account the fact that there is a multi-link at the back, there is no particular doubt about the reliability. The main components of the suspension travel 100-150 thousand kilometers, wheel bearings serve the same amount. Only the rear silent blocks of the front levers, anti-roll bar links and some rear silent blocks change more often. The repair price is also not prohibitive, a good selection of non-original components and even an inexpensive original.

The brake system also did not disappoint, and the discs and pads are very moderate, but they serve for a long time. Disks - usually at least 50 thousand kilometers, pads - at least 30-40. But the firmware of the ABS unit is inconvenient for many. According to the results of a journalistic investigation of one publication, it turned out that the system too loosens the wheels in turns and on the "comb", which can lead to serious consequences. This is where all the bikes of the ABS opponents manifest themselves - the system simply does not allow to slow down. The situation can be corrected by updating the unit's software, this should be done free of charge as part of a recall campaign, but for some reason, on most machines, the firmware is still old, factory-installed. The new firmware does not completely solve the problem, but it significantly reduces the braking distance in such situations, so it's worth updating.

Transmissions

Mechanical gearboxes do not have serious problems with the resource, but traditionally I will remind you that the flywheels here are dual-mass, very expensive. Sometimes they need to be repaired or changed, otherwise there is a chance to break the box and the starter for a very serious amount. But with automatic transmissions, as mentioned above, there is a complete leapfrog. In Russia, the car was sold mainly with a hydromechanical automatic transmission Aisin TF60-SN / VW 09G / M, which is considered reliable and problem-free. Until it breaks, of course. Indeed, on most VWs, this box works in very severe overheating conditions and the Tiguan is no exception. Changing the oil every 40-60 thousand kilometers and installing a "package for hot countries", which includes a separate radiator and filter for automatic transmission, are highly recommended.

And this automatic transmission also has a very capricious and difficult-to-repair valve body, and very expensive at the same time. In general, such a box can travel its 100-150 thousand kilometers even in hard modes and without additional cooling, but if you are counting on longer operation, then it is better to intervene in the factory design and seriously think about improvements. After 2011, cars with DSG DQ250, also known as DSG-6, were officially sold. This venerable box has not so many problems, especially in combination with the 1.4 engine. She is also prone to overheating in traffic jams and especially when driving off-road. Because of this, as well as due to the rapid contamination of the oil by wear products of clutch linings, it is worth cutting the oil change interval in half and be prepared for valve body failures-mechatronics. However, it is definitely not worth demonizing this box. Clutches in an oil bath do not burn and do not crumble, as on a "dry" DQ200 (DSG-7), and it transfers the moment even from a two-liter engine perfectly. There are few specialists on the car, there are a number of nuances on the mechanical part, and the valve body is not officially repaired. But everything is unofficially repaired, and you can even order spare parts yourself, for example, on AliExpress. In Europe, such a box was installed on front- and all-wheel drive cars with 1.4 150-160 hp engines and on two-liter gasoline engines from the very beginning of the model's production. We have few European cars, but they are still found. Again, an external heatsink and external filter for this box are highly recommended.

The most powerful engines are 2.0 TSI 211 hp. even we relied on the DQ500 series seven-speed DSG gearbox. In Europe, it was installed on all diesel engines, and even on some 1.4, not to mention the 200- and 211-horsepower versions of the two-liter engine. Such a "robot" is noticeably more reliable than a six-step, and certainly has nothing to do with the infamous "dry" box DQ200 at all. This unit was developed for the commercial VW Transporter and made it really reliable. This is not to say that it is completely problem-free, but it tolerates movement at low speed in difficult conditions much better due to different gear ratios, and is less prone to contamination and mechatronics failures. And the clutch resource is much higher. On minibuses, even in urban operation, there are cars with 300-400 thousand mileage and without any work on the "robot". The box has one drawback: if something goes wrong, then the contract unit will be very expensive, and there will be very few specialists. And the price of consumables bites.

Even on dorestyling cars, the rear axle drive clutch turned out to be very troublesome - there is a fourth generation Haldex. And with frequent off-road trips and regular "annealing" the oil change interval in practice should not exceed 30-40 thousand kilometers. Moreover, both the oil and the filter for the system are easiest to find in catalogs ... Volvo (part number 31325173). If you neglect the replacements, then the pump of the system will fail, and the car will turn into a strictly front-wheel drive one. After 2011, the clutch was changed to Haldex V - it is noticeably more reliable and simply does not allow itself to overheat so much. The transmission overheating light on the dashboard will light up more often, but the clutch itself does not require such frequent oil changes.

Gasoline engines

Motors 1.4 of the EA111 family on it are of several series: CAXA and CZDB with a capacity of 122 hp. and the 150 hp CZDA each have one turbocharger. But CAVA and CAVD differ in an interesting power system - it uses a turbine and a drive compressor at the same time. However, the main problems of the family remained: a weak piston group, a weak chain, a lubrication system operating at the limit, a high load on the liners, weak turbines and high-pressure fuel pumps, a quickly contaminated intercooler with a weak pump. It is expected that low-power versions are less likely to have problems with complete failure of the piston group, but 150- and 160-horsepower versions suffer from turbine failures with compressors and fatal piston destruction. Motors with double supercharging are also distinguished by enviable complexity - the throttle system is prone to freezing in winter. The compressor drive clutch, combined with the pump, costs about 30 thousand rubles and is a consumable. It needs to be changed at the same time as the pump, and additionally, out of turn, when it burns out, which is not so rare.

1 / 2

2 / 2

It's amazing how, with such a set of design flaws, there are cars that have already traveled 200 or more thousand kilometers with only the timing chains replacing and general engine maintenance. Perhaps the choice of oils and its timely replacement or successful operating modes affect. But there are also enough poor fellows in whom the car spends half of its life in warranty repairs. It's funny that such cars with very low mileage often look advantageous when sold on the secondary market. But you need to understand: the high price of a low-mileage car in this case often means that during its short life the SUV spent a lot of time in the service, waiting for the next warranty repair or "kulants" (preferential post-warranty repair). In general, with a 1.4 engine, you need to be very careful, and it is better not to take a car with this engine at all. Motors of 2 liters of the EA888 family have several options at once: CAWA, CAWB, CCZA and CCZB. But the essence is the same - these are almost identical engines with minimal differences in the power supply system and turbines. The common problems of this family are a tendency to coke the piston group due to unsuccessful oil scraper rings and pistons, a high load on the crankcase ventilation system due to unsuccessful compression rings, a constantly dirty throttle and a rather weak timing (however, much more reliable than 1.4) ... The strengths of these motors are excellent traction throughout the rev range and fantastic tuning capabilities. Even a simple chip tuning can make the Tiguan a competitor to the Golf R. 300-340 hp. - this is not the limit for a nominally 170-horsepower motor. The flip side of this is the presence of both a huge number of cheap firmware, and a whole heap of cars left by "racers". If the engine was handled carefully, then most likely its resource before serious repairs will be 120-160 thousand kilometers, the timing and serious "maslozhor" are unlikely to allow more.

If the motor was seriously chipped, then anything is possible. Firstly, they often serve better, and more frequent oil changes and better oil can do a little miracle - there will be no "oil maker". But the timing and turbines here will be in a more deplorable state. There are also problems with the drive of the intake manifold flaps - the plastic rod flies off due to wear or the filter in the vacuum drive gets clogged, but the officials change the manifold assembly. Even on two-liter engines, the resource of ignition modules is noticeably less than 1.4. Owners often try to find some solutions, order modules from other engines, look for modules from Audi, etc., etc. But this does not change the essence of the matter, even the original NGK modules with their own candles fail quite often. Again, due to the prevalence of this family of engines, the problems and solutions have long been known. It's just that most car owners tend to hide their heads in the sand and prefer expensive official service and official solutions. But on the Tiguan, there is no particular alternative to the petrol 2.0TSI. Diesel engines are in many ways more reliable, but they have their own nuances.

Diesel motors

Actually, the diesel engine is also only two-liter. In Russia, only the 140-horsepower CBAB was officially sold, but the Europeans were offered the entire range, from 110 to 184 hp. (CFFD, CUVC, CFGC, CUWA), including urea neutralization. These motors are as reliable as diesel engines can be with their extremely vulnerable power system, particulate filter and diesel fuel that freezes in winter. In addition, on top-end motors, there are piezo injectors with a limited resource and frequent failures. If you are a neat owner, the diesel will delight you, but one unsuccessful refueling - and now there are four nozzles of 30 thousand rubles each, plus a high-pressure fuel pump, plus all filters and an expense for flushing the tank and replacing it. A total of 160 thousand. And the savings were gone. A common misfortune of all cars with an autonomous heater is the obvious corrosion of its pipes and antifreeze leakage. This, by the way, applies not only to diesel, but also to gasoline cars.

What should you choose?

Let's just discard all unnecessary things. For example, cars with engines 1.4, unless you have a fad on fuel consumption. You should be afraid of DSG on the Tiguan only if you spend half your life in traffic jams. Well, or if you are a Muscovite, which is almost the same thing. Everyone else will love the seven- or even six-speed DSG, although a simple Aisin with proper care is just as good. Which of the two-liter engines to choose is already a personal matter of the future owner. Diesels are definitely more resourceful, but noticeably more expensive in the repair of fuel equipment. Gasoline engines have a quite predictable average resource, understandable problems with oil consumption and other "nuances" that can also be solved if there were money. And if you absolutely need four-wheel drive, then the restyled Tiguan with the more reliable Haldex V clutch is definitely the best choice. The bonus is a slightly more interesting interior and exterior. But in any case, before buying a Tiguan, you should first assess how ready you are for the deadly calmness of this car's design, internal and external, and whether you are resistant enough to the temptations of its dynamics and driving characteristics.

amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; lt; a href = "http://polldaddy.com/poll/9285718/" amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt; Bought Would you imagine Volkswagen Tiguan? amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; lt; / aamp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt;

The well-known German quality is sometimes also upsetting. And, according to the reviews of many or even the majority, such a disappointment was the purchase of a Volkswagen Tiguan, not only with mileage, but even from the factory. People were waiting for something eternal from a German manufacturer, but the opposite happened. Therefore, in this article, all the significant weaknesses and shortcomings of the German Volkswagen Tiguan will be announced, which every future buyer of this car should know about.

Weaknesses of the 1st generation Volkswagen Tiguan

  • Engine;
  • Valve train chain;
  • "Robot";

Now in more detail….

One of the most serious vulnerabilities of the Tiguan is, oddly enough, the engine, namely, a volume of 1.4 liters. If, for example, there are fewer complaints about other engines (in particular, gasoline 2.0 and diesel), then there are serious complaints about 1.4 TSI. The fact is that the 1.4 liter engine has serious design flaws in terms of calculating the reliability of the pistons. Therefore, primarily due to the high thermal load, the piston group quickly collapses. There were cases that these problems arose even when the car was under warranty and this malfunction was eliminated, but the bulk of Tiguan car owners faced piston destruction after the end of the warranty period. As a result, the owners had to spend a lot of money on repairs. Therefore, before buying this car, you should be aware of this and draw the right conclusions. Separately, we can say about diesel engines. The weakest side of these engines is the so-called diesel particulate filter. The point is that it quickly clogs up with frequent city driving and does not have time to regenerate (self-clean).

It is equally important to know about one more serious weak point of the Tiguanas, which can bring serious financial losses to the owners of these cars. This is a quick failure of the timing chain. And this applies, like 1.4 liters. engine and two-liter. In general, if you remember, there was a whole epic about the timing chain. At first, the manufacturer refused to admit that the chains were defective, but in the end, due to massive discontent, he had to do this and conduct an analysis and a set of measures to prevent such defects. This was explained by the fact that the supplied chains were produced on equipment with severe wear. From what the resulting defective edges of the chains, with the engine running, caused rapid wear of the chain as a whole. Later, this problem was solved, but there are still such cars on which the mileage is low, and the chain is still factory-installed. Therefore, it is not a little important to pay attention to this nuance before buying, since bent engine valves due to stretching and chain failure are not pleasant pleasure.

Among all the troubles of the Tiguan`a, one more can be distinguished - this is a robotic DSG box. Its resource, with proper operation and maintenance, does not exceed, as a rule, an average of 100 thousand km. and in general, the DSG robot is not famous for its durability on other makes and models of cars. Therefore, it is worth knowing about it, especially for the future buyer of the Volkswagen Tiguana. Therefore, the ideal option would be - this is the choice of Tiguan without a DSG box. Any other, but not DSG.

Electric power steering.

Electric power steering is one of the diseases of the Volkswagen Tiguan. The EUR on these cars caused a lot of problems for their owners. On many cars, there have been cases of failure of the electric power steering, both on the spot and on the move. This was mainly due to a software glitch. In case of failure of the EUR in motion, the flashing of the unit did not help, and the EUR had to be completely changed. Basically, this malfunction made itself felt during the warranty period of the car, but it is simply necessary for the future owner to know about the said weak point.

Propeller shaft suspension bearing.

The propeller shaft outboard bearing also worried Tiguan owners. This is not to say that this is a mass problem, but when buying a car it is worth paying attention to it, since its cost and replacement can significantly hit the pocket of the future owner. It is possible to indirectly determine bearing wear when driving in a characteristic hum, but it is better to check its condition at a service station.

The main disadvantages of the Volkswagen Tiguan 2007-2016 release

  1. Weak stove work in winter;
  2. Small trunk volume for a crossover;
  3. There is no possibility of full lifting of the wipers;
  4. Long warm-up of the 1.4 liter engine. in winter;
  5. Weak paintwork;
  6. Small side mirrors;
  7. The inability to replace the "stowaway" with a full-size wheel;
  8. Ergonomics miscalculations.

Conclusion.

Based on the foregoing, we can conclude that for such a cost of this model, it was possible to install parts, components and assemblies there more reliably than installed in fact. It should be understood before buying that the failure of any element of the machine, the purchase and replacement will cost the owner a very round sum.

P.S: Dear owners of these vehicles! We kindly ask you to indicate the observed shortcomings of the Tiguan that you identified during operation.

The already famous Volkswagen Tiguan in the Russian market has a modern design, with outlines typical of the presented brand. With each new modification, new and improved auxiliary systems appear in the car. They provide tangible assistance to the driver while driving. It cannot be argued that the car is quite comfortable, which is very important for its owner. After all, the driver spends a lot of time in the cabin. Therefore, the manufacturer tried to make it as comfortable as possible.

Attention! The manufacturer promises every owner of this car excellent traction on almost any surface. The all-wheel drive system distributes torque evenly between the rear and front axles and wheels. This prevents slipping and blocking as much as possible.

After analyzing the chassis, you can understand that this is a typical Volkswagen. It has no property to sway. But at the same time, even on low-profile tires, he does not "count the vertebrae" of the driver. The suspension is quiet, adaptive, assembled. Many modifications have a dynamic chassis control system. Depending on which driving profile the driver has chosen, this system quickly changes the stiffness of the shock absorbers.

In general, the manufacturer did not present any surprises for motorists. Naturally, Tiguan tried to improve in all directions. It was made more spacious, more economical and safer. But not much. In theory, it should be more passable than its predecessors. Car enthusiasts are eager to buy this modification. This brand has already gained momentum in the global market, so Tiguan does not fall in price for many years after its release. This is what its owners appreciate. Wanting to purchase a new modification, they successfully sell the old car with little or no financial loss.

Undoubtedly, this car has many good qualities, but what should you pay attention to when buying and will new drivers have unexpected unpleasant surprises when using the Tiguan?

Owner reviews

I will not recommend this car for long term use. Despite the fact that it is quite comfortable, its systems surprise me every year. From year to year, the rear window cleaning drive fails. At the same time, the water supply is stopped both to the rear and to the front glass. This problem has become so regular that after each repair I am already ready for the next one. Some parts of the car simply cannot withstand frost and freezing rain. It is immediately clear that this model is not adapted to our climate. In addition, every year I regularly contact the service due to the fact that water gets into the contacts. After that, many systems start to fail. The manufacturer did not initially improve the insulation. In the owners' reviews of the Volkswagen Tiguan, such shortcomings are indicated. It is a pity that I read it late.
Now, in order to bring all the systems back to normal, I pay at least 5,000 rubles for this. Such repairs periodically hit my wallet due to the fact that they have to be done very often.

I can't say there is something special about this car. The advantages that I immediately noted for myself is a comfortable lounge. As for me, everything is in its place. The car is more comfortable inside.
It seems to me that the motor of this car is "disposable" !! The intake manifold was out of order already at 50 thousand kilometers. Even earlier, after 30 thousand kilometers, all stabilizer struts had to be changed. At the same time, there were serious problems with the rear brake claims. The vaunted German "quality" components did not even show themselves, but they were already out of order. If I had read the owners' reviews about the Volkswagen Tiguan before buying, I would definitely not have taken all the disadvantages.

During the purchase, I was told that such a common model as Volkswagen can always be sold very easily and quickly on the secondary market. Friends said that this should not be done, and in the reviews of the owners about the Tiguan, all its disadvantages and breakdowns were at a glance. But I didn't listen to anyone.
I bought a used car. Immediately I decided to play it safe and changed all consumable components at the official representatives. The only thing left is the brake pads. At that time they were not worn out much. The first breakdown that I encountered was the failure of the pads. They made themselves felt with a strong and sharp squeak when braking. The inside was completely worn out, since the outside was half worn out. After that, problems with the car went down the chain. Components began to fail one by one. Unfortunately, I endured for a long time until I decided to get rid of the car. Now my only regret is that I did not sell it earlier, immediately after quickly erasing the pads.

I bought an already used Tiguan. After a short operation, I decided to undergo a full maintenance in order to cure all the malfunctions in one fell swoop. I paid an unreasonably high price for the process. In the end, I was told that everything was fine, and I could safely continue on. I traveled only 2 thousand kilometers when my CHECK caught fire. I calmly arrived at the same service center, where I was thoroughly diagnosed. They said that I had gaps in the third cylinder due to a burned out piston. They finished me off with that, they announced again an unjustified price for repairs of 120 thousand rubles. For such a sum, I did not agree in principle, and the same work on the restoration of the engine was carried out to me in garages for 60 thousand rubles. When minor breakdowns, which appeared too often, began to haunt me, I successfully sold the car to dealers, covering the cost of repairs, and calmly exhaled.

I read the reviews of the owners of the volkswagen tiguan and its shortcomings, and decided to leave a contribution. In principle, despite all the shortcomings, I have been driving this car for the fourth year already. And now I can definitely give a normal and impartial assessment.
I'll start with the look. Car painting is just awful quality. In the third year of operation, the painting is already noticeably coming off. This already suggests that this brand is completely unsuitable for the Russian climate. Perhaps I was just unlucky in this regard with the choice of modification.
No one argues that it is very comfortable while driving. The dynamics of the car is excellent. In principle, that's all I can say in favor of the car.
For me, there is absolutely not enough space in the trunk. Every 90 thousand kilometers I constantly check the performance of the suspension and silent blocks. As a rule, it is at this time that they begin to give the first failures. And for our fuel, the engine of the car is too technological.

I think that the car justifies itself in terms of price-quality ratio. The dynamics suit, and the overtaking goes pretty well, obedient. I also like the soundproofing. I talk to passengers quite calmly. I was lucky with the suspension. It is soft, excellent shock absorption. The first time I changed the front stabilizer struts after 60 thousand kilometers. The rear ones still work well.
During the operation, I managed to notice that the windshield of the car is rather fragile. As soon as a slight and small chip appears, cracks spread along the glass from edge to edge. I changed it twice for CASCO. It was also upset that I had replaced the intercooler twice. The first one changed after 50 thousand kilometers, and the second one at 80 thousand kilometers. At that time, no dealer could name the reason. But now everything is fine.

I believe that a good car will behave well even in winter. But after I bought a Volkswagen Tiguan, I realized that this car is completely unsuitable for this climate. The paint slips very quickly, the car on my only hope starts up in the morning in the winter. The wipers lag behind the ice for a very long time. Since it takes a long time to warm up, I put them in service mode at night. Literally two years later, the car lost the respectable look in which I bought it. In addition, there is no protective mesh on the radiator. I constantly had to clean it unscheduled. I bought the mesh separately and put it on only after the third time of cleaning, because I could not stand it. Many nuances, such as a new protective mesh or additional noise insulation, had to be refined on their own. Of course, it took a lot of money. But I spent even more time on such garage events. And I learned a serious lesson from this. I will not save more on buying a car.

Despite the fact that the owners' reviews told about all the disadvantages of the Tiguan, I still switched to it after the sale of my Skoda. Everything is learned in alignment, so my general impression is “normal”. The car really does go smoother. Tiguan is crammed with many systems that I still haven't really figured out. A special surprise came from the anti-roll system.
But you won't load a lot of cargo into this modification. Even if the rear seats are folded down, there is very little trunk space. In my opinion, the power unit of the Tiguan is rather weak. It does not pull out for a car even of this level. I have a six-speed gearbox. And when you need to quickly go to overtake, you have to turn on the fourth speed.
I would also like to say about the exterior design of the car. Its peculiarity is that during the rains, the tailgate opening handle is constantly getting dirty. This is annoying.

I cannot say that this car is good. Yes, it has some advantages, but as for me, there are not many of them. Of the positive qualities in the car, only an attractive appearance and bi-xenon headlights, which are most likely used by buyers. I purchased the first modification with a gasoline engine in 2012. After that, under warranty, it was replaced with a modification with a diesel power unit. All the time, while I had a gasoline Tiguan, I, tormented, proved to the dealer that the oil consumption of 800 grams per 1,000 kilometers is not the norm. And he mistakenly assumed that this oversight was corrected in the diesel modification. In the second car, after 40 thousand kilometers, the bushings of the lower arm, support and suspension bearings, stabilizer struts and other details have already been replaced by little details. Moreover, some of these components had to be changed twice. In the end, I could not stand it, put the car in order and just sold it for a decent amount.

One of the pioneers of the compact crossover niche, popular among domestic car enthusiasts Volkswagen Tiguan. The first mention of the creation of a car of this class, the German concern made back in 2006.

The release began in 2007, and after 4 years, the model has undergone minor restyling. As a result of the update, the shape of the front and rear bumpers, the design of the optics, minor transformations in the cabin and the modification of the range of motors have changed.

Production in Russia was almost immediately established at a subsidiary in Kaluga. For Russians, 3 basic vehicle configurations and a wide range of engines were offered, consisting exclusively of turbo engines.

The main difference between the 4x4 configuration was the use of bumpers with a large bevel of the skirt, which made it possible to overcome the increased angle of rise.

The very name of the Tiguan model is a fusion of two words. Translated into Russian, it means tiger and iguana. Marketers managed to combine a large predatory cat with a large lizard. Surprisingly, it sounds nice.

The main competitors of Volkswagen Tiguan, by right, can be called Kia Sportage, Renault Duster, Toyota Rav 4, Skoda Yeti. Each of them, in its own way, has a number of advantages and disadvantages. Perhaps in price, but maybe in functionality and reliability. This is exactly what we will try to figure out.

What problems can used options have

The design of the German crossover is not endowed with simplicity. The most sophisticated systems of the engine, transmission and electrical equipment provide a high level of comfort, dynamics and controllability. But the flip side of this bonus lies in frequent breakdowns.

Best and worst motors

As mentioned earlier, the entire line of power units for the domestic market is turbocharged engines.

The most basic engine is considered to be 1.4 liters. petrol TSI, 150 hp and a torque of 240 N.m. Amazing traction, dynamics and efficiency. The internal combustion engine is equipped with a classic turbine and a mechanical supercharger capable of disguising a turbo lag.

Fantastic efficiency of the motor, often turns around for it, the rapid wear of components and assemblies. A motor with a small volume, pumped up to the parameters of a 2.5-3 liter atmospheric analogue, simply cannot cope with the load.

Several objects fall into the risk zone at once. Overheating and high pressure in cylinders 2 and 3, design flaw. Burning pistons and seizure marks are not uncommon, especially among "active" drivers.

The timing chain today is far from the strong point of most foreign cars, as it used to be. The Tiguan is no exception. The resource is not great, about 100 thousand kilometers. And her pacifier can fail twice as fast.

A relative of the same unit, 1.4 liters, 122 hp. It has no additional pressurization. This, in part, makes it more reliable. At least the problems with the CPG were cut off by themselves.

The turbine, however, runs 150-200 thousand kilometers without any problems. But the stretching of the chain and the failure of the damper, unfortunately, remained an unresolved headache.

This internal combustion engine is extremely rare in the secondary market, and its capacity is not quite enough for a one and a half ton SUV. It is installed, as many have already guessed, only on a mono-drive version.

To prolong the life of the timing chain, we strongly recommend that you do not put the machine on the included speed. And if, nevertheless, you want to doubt the reliability of the parking brake, then put it into gear, it is better after fixing with the handbrake.

Turbo diesel 2.0, found in two versions. The first, with a capacity of 170 hp and a torque of 350 Nm, was installed on cars before the 2011 restyling. And the second, its counterpart, in a deformed form, produces 140 forces. With a weaker turbine and lower ecological class (EURO-4).

No major flaws were found in these power plants. Clogged diesel particulate filter, a common occurrence in diesel engines. Especially often, it occurs where the daily mileage is not great.

Also, there are cases of pump leakage, ahead of schedule. The timing drive, here the belt, from replacement to replacement, is 120 thousand kilometers. If the belt breaks, the cost of repairing the cylinder head can exceed 50 thousand rubles. Volkswagen parts are very expensive.

With regards to the gasoline 2.0, the engine at different times was presented with several power ratings. Before the update, it was 170 and 200 hp, and after that options with 180, 210 and 211 forces were added. The motor has proven itself only on the positive side. A minor drawback is the leakage of the camshaft position sensor gasket. It is found closer to the run of 60-70 thousand km.

Exterior silhouette and salon space

The body of the German crossover is strong and torsionally rigid. The paintwork, as in general and that of most rivals in the class, does not have high resistance to stones on the road.

Chips are not uncommon in cars over three years old. Surprisingly, Tiguan is not afraid of corrosion and bugs. The body is galvanized. One major flaw in most SUVs is the aerodynamic turbulence at the stern. Frequent accumulation of dirt at the lower edge of the trunk. It is there that you should look for rust from a "used" German.

The salon is made in the traditional Volkswagen style. Everything is strict, laconic and thought out to the smallest detail. Good sound insulation and convenient functionality.

The rear seats have adjustments, both by tilting the backrest in several positions, and by sliding back and forth. In other matters, the latter, significantly compensates for the small volume of the trunk, which a large number of owners complain about.

There are also cases of complete or partial breakage of the multi rudder loop. As a result, the sound signal, volume control and information system control stops working.

Transmission types and wheel arrangement

Front-wheel drive is only available with a 1.4-liter petrol engine in both variants. Due to this, the design is simplified, and with it a number of problems are eliminated by themselves.

All other units have four-wheel drive, working with a Haldex clutch. The weak point in the 4x4 version is the outboard bearing of the propeller shaft. A knock in the area of the central tunnel of the bottom is a clear sign of its failure.

The rear axle clutch has proven itself not bad. Regular and premature oil changes, with a filter element, guarantee a long life. Do not forget that heavy towing or overheating in off-road conditions will negatively affect the resource.

On post-styling machines, they began to use a robotic gearbox DSG-6, designed for an increased torque of 325 Nm. This gearbox works on a "wet" one, due to which increased productivity and resource.

The design feature consists in a single oil circuit for the clutch and the transmission itself. As a result, clutch wear products can easily get into the main compartment. An oil change (expensive) is best done in advance. Do not forget that the chip tuning of the internal combustion engine reduces the resource of such a box by about half.

Automatic transmission for 6 speeds and "mechanics" are not a hassle. Cases of serious malfunctions, with proper operation, are rare.

Chassis and steering

Volkswagen Tiguan 1st generation, built on the Golf 5th generation platform. Some of the sores were inherited. Compensation for this is the excellent handling received from the hatchback.

The ground clearance of the car is 200 mm, which is quite solid for a city SUV. The front and rear suspension is completely independent. Typical MacPherson performance and multi-link aft.

In the zone of vulnerability, the rear silent blocks of the front levers fall here. Fortunately, for replacement, you do not need to change the entire lever, as with most competitors. Just one detail is enough.

Hub bearings do not run for long, about 35-50 thousand kilometers. The reason for this is the adaptability of the car to good roads. Many owners treat the problem by fitting higher profile tires. The suspension will become softer, but the handling is worse.

Let's summarize

Buying a used German crossover on the secondary market is a kind of lottery for a person who does not understand a lot about this. It will not be superfluous to carry out a comprehensive diagnosis from well-qualified specialists.

This car is technically complex. The choice is probably worth a complete set with the simplest power filling. Thus, avoiding a number of possible failures. The more promising ones are two-liter engines with manual transmission and automatic transmission. Don't forget about the suspension and steering too. Although the risk of running into here is much less.
