I handed over my horse for repair. And while the lords of the hammer and colors conjure over him, he rented Renault Symbol... My Logan was released in the Privilege configuration, while the issued Simbol is also not empty. And since there is an opportunity, I will try to compare these two models lying in the overlapping price category. I will be at a loss to name the complete set issued, but there are:

- climate control
- automatic transmission
The first impression is that the car is noticeably smaller. At least in height. Okay tailored, design ... Design is a controversial concept, but I have nothing against it. We occupy driver's seat... We adjust the seat, adjust the back… The steering wheel has no adjustments, but the seat height adjustment helps a lot. And since I like to sit higher, we raise it to the maximum, after which the steering wheel is very comfortable to lay down in hand. Ouch! Somehow the roof has become too close, it is easy to touch it just by raising your hand up ... And rear passengers, especially taller than average height, probably not very comfortable (especially if I take into account the roof roll behind).


Control of turn signals, light, washer - in the same way as on other Renoshkas. And what is this under the right hand? Radio control, however. Quite convenient, but takes some getting used to. We get used to further.
The radio tape recorder is intuitive, the climate control is the same (in fact, I didn’t take too much steam, but pressed the Auto button and chose 22 degrees). Information from dashboard read without much stress, but the right information row is covered by the steering wheel rim. The only perplexity is the speedometer, marked as 10..30..50..70..90 ... Quite strange, the numbers 40 and 60 on the roads of our country are much more common.
The left hand rests on the door armrest, and the window regulator buttons and the mirror adjustment joystick immediately fall under the fingers. There is no armrest under the right hand, which is a pity ... Adjusting the mirrors. After the huge Logan mirrors, these look small. The mirrors are quite interesting - the mirror is convex on the sides, and should show what is in the dead zone.
Well, well, the key to the start! Getting started. We take on the plump box selector and move it to the "D" position. Fear of being missed desired mode work goes away - on the dashboard information about the current state of the box is duplicated. We release the brake and slowly begin to move, merging into a sluggish cork. Hmm, we are also not deprived of the power steering.
Driving in a traffic jam on a machine is heaven compared to mechanics. They released the brake, crawled to the one in front, pressed the brake. Let go - crawled - got up. Let go - crawled - got up. Contrary to its own expectations, the left leg jerked only once, after which it calmed down and no longer showed signs of excitement. Triggering on the rise is also a song! Let go of the pedal and go. Up a hill, down a hill, in a straight line - everything is one. I'm fascinated by the automaton :)
So, the traffic jam ends - go ahead! We press on the gas and the car quickly starts accelerating. The gear shifting process is barely noticeable, but palpable. The engine noise is practically inaudible - the sound insulation here is an order of magnitude better than Loganovskaya. V
the flow of the machine feels confident, not leaving the brothers, but not pulling forward. Until we let her do it :)
The brakes are stiffer than those of Logan, but they are also quite light and understandable. Quite interestingly, it slows down, gradually shifting gears down - at the moment of gear shifting, the car rolls forward for a fraction of a second.
Let's go to the track? OK. Up to 130, the machine accelerates without much stress, at a hundred, aerodynamic noises begin to add to the engine noise - however, not loud enough to interfere with the conversation or make the music louder. The car keeps the road normally, steers confidently. At 110 km / h, the engine speed froze just below 3000.
There were also complaints about the chair. Still, there is not enough back support roller, and the seat itself would not hurt to be longer.


And here is the house. We turn on the back, we park ... The view back is good, but still there is not enough parking sensors. I got used to his beeping, what can I do ...
So let's try to put everything together.

So, what would I personally choose in the end? Logan, after all. Due to the fact that it is larger. And if he had an automatic transmission in his asset - then only with it!

So, after a year and a half of owning the symbol, I decided to write a review about it. I will describe the cars in comparison with the previous Logan, as many probably wondered: which is better to take - Logan or Symbol?

As I said in a previous review, the reason for changing the car is the fatigue of the Logan's suspension (either shock absorbers, or springs, I don't know), worn out for 100 thousand in winter and summer tires, the impending need to replace belts and rollers. In addition, to be honest, the hunt was to replace the car with something else.

I was not actively looking for another car, and Simbol turned up by accident. It was certainly not a task to buy Renault, but a small mileage was a prerequisite. The car was produced in 2006, purchased in May 2007, at the time of purchase by me (December 2010) the mileage was 12 thousand km. It was a colleague's car. There was no winter rubber, since it was not used in winter. This is a witness himself, since he constantly saw a car in the winter in a corporate garage, covered with a thick layer of dust (he stood there almost all year round). Confirmation of the reality of the run - the TO-1 coupon, which was produced by the owner exactly one year later, with a run of ... 1,500 km :) We did not do any other maintenance on the car.

The first feeling when I got behind the wheel of a symbol: "Oh, yes, this is a foreign car !!" The dashboard and the front panel in the symbol, although made of hard plastic, are richer, there is a backlight in the glove compartment !! :), the power window buttons are located on the left door, and not on the center panel, as in Logan, the seat fabric is of higher quality. There are others pleasant trifles... For example, there is a central locking button on the key, when the doors are unlocked, the interior light is automatically lit up, and when the ceiling light goes out when locked, this was not the case in Logan. By the way, I never put the signaling on the symbol.

The steering column is height adjustable, set it up once and forget it.

There are pockets in the backs of the front seats; even that was not in the Logan.

The trunk lid is neatly lined with felt from the inside, bare metal in the logan. There is no metal in the trunk itself, since it is all covered with rigid molded felt. The quality of the felt cannot be compared with that of Logan's. Balon, towing bolt and jack are packed in a special device that lies inside the spare wheel. In Logan, it was all attached to the inner side panel. The felt on the boot floor is hard, because on the reverse side sheathed with cardboard. In Logan, I had to do it myself, since the trunk floor without cardboard is uneven.

The backrest of the rear seat in the symbol is folded (while the opening buttons are neat and convenient). But it is worth saying that the opening from the passenger compartment to the trunk turns out to be very low (stiffening rib), so it will turn out to be a hard length to put horseradish. In particular, my snowboard, without scratching, cannot be thrust into a stiffener.

The central locking also extends to the trunk. In Logan, the trunk was locked / unlocked only with a key.

There are three rear head restraints, they are adjustable, in the lower position they are recessed into the seat back (like in a real foreign car! :)), which is convenient and does not interfere with the view back. There are only two of them in logans and they do not hide in the back. In my Logan, they were not at all.

And more !! The pibikalka is installed normal, and not at the end of the left steering column switch, like in Logan !! :) I'm used to this feature, but it annoys many.

There are other pribluds, but they relate more to the configuration features: there are foglights, condo, head unit, heated mirrors, BC, height-adjustable driver's seat, and all the body parts are painted :).

I will not describe the exterior, because for most both cars are ugly, the symbol is even uglier, probably. In general, the interior and exterior of Renault sucks. The exception is the megan hatchback (both new and old), IMHO.

Now about the operation. The second feeling, when I sat down in the symbol, is closer in the cabin. This one touches the upper part of the cabin. I am 175 cm tall and my seat is in the down position. Tall drivers will miss the space to the left of their heads. True, I sit upright, if the back of the seat is lowered, then everything will be OK for the tall ones. Tighter at the top and in the back seat. In Logan, I put my snowboard vertically behind the front seat, rolling it all the way forward. At the same time, the upper part practically rested against rear glass... It didn't work out in the simbola, it didn't fit in the trunk either (it didn't fit in the logan either). Folding the back seat, the result is also not achieved. Had to buy a roof rack. I was lucky, I found a new one in the package right away along with ski pins for only 5 tr. The woman bought for her symbol, but never used it. Otherwise I would have to buy a new one. I will say that the roof rack is a cool thing! In winter, snowboards ride on the top (which is very convenient), and in summer, cabinets and tables.

As I said, the trunk is connected to the central locking system and is locked / unlocked from the button on the key. The boot lid is opened with a button that is integrated into the Renault emblem. The downside is that there are no larvae for the key in the trunk lock. Literally after six months of operation, the central locking device that unlocks the trunk lock broke down, I had to climb into the trunk through the passenger compartment to unlock the lock. The trunk is now not locked. So far nothing has been rested from him. I witnessed a similar picture. A man in a neighboring yard climbed into the trunk through the salon, because in the spring after the winter parking the battery sat down, as a result the central control did not work. I opened the doors with the key, and the trunk - hell!

The trunk opening in Logan is larger and more convenient, that's a fact. But the trunk of the symbol is larger: it accommodates all four wheels (14 "), when replacing the rubber in the logan, the fourth wheel was located in the cabin. The height of the trunks is absolutely the same.

Logan is better prepared for winter operation. The simbola does not have air ducts to the rear passengers under the front seats !!! It's just a kapets !!! You can buy in existential, but too lazy to bother with it. The rear window is heated worse than in Logan. In Logan, the rear window was heated with a bang even at minus 35. In the simbola, the heater copes only with fogging. Perhaps this is a drawback of my particular copy. In spring and autumn, in muddy roads, it is often necessary to knead a mixture of mud and snow. After such trips, it is necessary to work with the gearbox mixer, otherwise the fifth or rear may not stick. Jokes, jokes, but one morning after leaving on the road, I could not turn on the fifth after such a trip. I had to drive the car into warm garage to melt the snow. After that, no problem. The fact is that dirt and snow clog the space between the crankcase and the engine protection, and somewhere in that area there is also the gearbox switch actuator.

The simbol starts up in cold weather without problems, the battery is native.

The clearance of the symbol is similar to that of the Logan.

In the symbol, limit switches rear doors located on top, so they do not get water and dirt like in Logan.

The consumption of the symbol is less. If you do not vomit on the BC comes out 7.5 liters. 50% city, 50% highway. The condo is sometimes on, sometimes off. On the highway, the speed is 120-130 km / h. I tried to somehow achieve the minimum consumption. I drove 90-100 km / h on the highway, accelerated smoothly in the city, coasting whenever possible. It turned out something about 6.3 liters. But even pensioners don't go like that! :))) In short, 7.5 liters real expense, for checks it turns out the same way.

The biggest jamb in my symbole is the clutch creak. In the heat, the clutch pedal is extremely uninformative, tight, and even squeaks disgustingly. It infuriates me. Officials say "a feature of the car." What is this feature ??? Driving in traffic jams in the heat (when over +30) is a torment. All that these degenerate ones can do is rinse with Karcher and grease the wings with oil. Helps for 2-3 days. I did not find an answer to the solution to the problem in the forums. Such a jamb, by the way, happened on Logan, but it both appeared and disappeared (it lasted about 10 days).

The first feeling (they were confirmed in the future) is how the engine started and drove like this:

    the engine is much quieter. I installed a Shumka in Logan, but even with it, Logan's engine is louder;

    transmissions in the symbol are shorter. Apparently, therefore, it subjectively accelerates faster, although the engine is 1.4 and only 75 horses;

    on small joints and bumps, the symbol is tougher than the logan. Maybe these are the features of rubber, since in general the suspension is no less energy-intensive;

    there is more noise from the road in the simbola, but in Logan I made a Shumka. Therefore, I cannot objectively compare this indicator;

    when I first went on the highway on a symbol, I remembered the "young" Logan. Their behavior on the road is similar. Unless in a crosswind, the symbol holds the road better.

Subjectively, the elasticity of the Logan engine is slightly higher, after all, the displacement makes itself felt. This is felt first of all at the speed with a full load of the car. When loading 5 people + full trunk+ condo symbol does not go. It is necessary for the fifth person to get out of the passenger compartment and push the car from behind. There was no air conditioning in the logan, so I can't say how turning it on / off affects the dynamics of the car at speed.

Replaced parts and breakdowns for 66 thousand mileage:

A month after the purchase (about 15 thousand run), the radio tape recorder died. Officials replaced for FREE with a new one. How this happened I don’t know, the car by that time was almost 4 years old from the date of purchase;

I don’t remember at what thousand the central locking system of the trunk lid broke, the lock on it has not been locked since then;

I changed the front pads by about 45 thousand;

At 60 thousand, the low beam lamp in the left headlight burned out, changed;

At 63 thousand I changed the tie rods-tips (in pairs);

I changed timing rollers / belts and attachments for 65 thousand;

Oil, filters every 15 thousand. I don't follow this strictly. Once I drove 18 thousand without oil change;

I changed the candles right after the purchase (when I did the first MOT), after that I did not change it;

In the summer, once a month I go to wash and lubricate the stage so that the clutch pedal does not creak, it helps for 2-3 days if the heat is over 30;

At 66 thousand, for the first time, when stopping in front of a traffic light, when the gas pedal was released, the engine speed was delayed for a second and only then dropped to normal. This is a harbinger of replacing the throttle cable or problems with the throttle valve.

So, which to take a Logan or a Simbol? From the point of view of operation and exterior amenities, the Symbol is definitely more advanced than the Logan. There is no absolute savings in everything. At the same time, technically, these cars are similar and the jambs are innate the same. For example, I changed the throttle cable on Logan two times, a sign of its imminent replacement appeared on the symbol. The squeak of the clutch wings on engines 1.4 (1.6 too) is manifested both on the Logan and on the symbol. And this is perhaps the most unpleasant jamb of these cars. Tie rod ends run roughly the same on both models. The disease of both cars is the inner boot of the left wheel drive. It is susceptible to pollution and in winter it can break on frozen mud and ice, it was on my Logan. Now a crunch appeared on my simbol when starting off under load (uphill, for example). But I can’t say whether this is so now, since the sound was a couple of times and not obvious, you need to specifically define it. But the crunch inner CV joint on logans and symbols also occurs. In terms of the volume of internal space, cars also do not fundamentally differ.

My advice is the following: if you buy a used car and the exterior matters to you, then the symbol is, but it will be correspondingly more expensive. If you choose from NEW cars, and with an ENGINE 1.6 16 cl, then I would take a symbol. Take Logan for 470 tr. - this is too much, and the symbol can be taken for 500 tr. in the normal configuration. Now the new Symbols are sold only with a 1.6 16 cl engine.

P / S if they tell you that the logan / symbol does not break, then they lie to you. Original spare parts for them cost unrealistic money. Non-original ones are comparable to spare parts for cars of a higher class.

The history of the appearance on the market of Symbola is quite interesting: in fact, it is a second generation Renault Clio, to which Turkey decided to weld the trunk just in order to get a more prestigious sedan, in the opinion of residents of developing countries. Therefore, the rear of the car looks like a suitcase glued to an extraneous hatchback. However, the developers, judging by the appearance of the car, completely ignored the design issues, aiming to make something similar with the price of the Logan, and the presence of at least minimal comfort - for the Clio. It turned out to be a rather interesting hunchback horse, with the same ambiguous appearance, but on a very good B-platform used on Renault Clio, Logan, Modus (unfortunately, it did not take root in our country: the price of the bourgeoisie was bent too high) and Nissan micra and Note. There is a lot of information about the origin and use of this platform, and we will not focus on this. Note that our current car is produced in 2004, that is, before the restyling of 2008, after which the appearance of the car changed so much that it no longer caused particularly violent aesthetes to want to take a hammer and give it a more decent shape. Although the restyling significantly affected the Symbol externally, it retained its essence: inexpensive sedan, characterized by a fairly high reliability and the complete absence of at least a little bit of charisma.

Inspection in a car service

To inspect the chassis and engine, as well as to listen to specialist reviews about Renault Symbol, we came to the service station G-Energy Racing Service, where they are engaged in the repair and maintenance of almost all popular car brands. Having driven the car onto a lift, we began to inspect the car from below, simultaneously listening to the comments of the master. The suspension of the car usually does not give the owner any trouble. Independent front suspension McPherson does not require expensive repairs and service. Unlike the apotheosis of Logan's French modesty, the ball joints are not pressed into the levers, so they can be replaced quickly if necessary. In our car, the foreman identified wear on the left wheel bearing and tie rod ends. However, this does not mean design flaws, it is, rather, about the timely replacement of these elements. According to the workshop specialist, the stabilizer lateral stability has a significant resource, but even when worn out, it does not manifest this sad event with a knock or any other extraneous sound... Only running diagnostics can identify the need to replace it. Rear suspension semi-independent type with longitudinal levers... It is easier to come up with hard, and more reliable too. As with the front, the left wheel bearing needs to be replaced. The rear springs on this machine have already been replaced. The original ones are of variable cross-section, but they served for ten years. Then they just broke down.

Of the design features visible on the lift, it is worth noting a non-separable exhaust system, or rather its rear part: a resonator, a muffler and exhaust pipe... Here the owner of Simbol Konstantin takes the floor: - Be sure to write about this! - he pokes his finger into the pipe. - To replace the muffler, you need a grinder. It cannot be changed separately. We passed, we know. This is a drawback, I believe. Well, let's note this sad fact and write about it. This is all the more interesting because these parts are sold separately, and the plant's recommendation says that the pipe must be cut mercilessly and a repair sleeve must be installed, which they will also gladly sell to you. Considering that exhaust system rots much faster than a well-galvanized body, the recommended operation is at least confusing.

Finishing the inspection of the chassis, a car service specialist remarked: - I can't even remember that people came to us with the need for any major repairs to the chassis. She only requires timely replacement some parts, but the resource is generally very good. Although, of course, it largely depends on driving style. - What is the manner, - the owner of Renault grinned sarcastically, - 75 horses ... Yes, 75 is not much. This, frankly, is not enough. Especially considering today's speeds. But in budget car the main thing is not the number of horses in the herd, but their health and endurance. And with this, Simbol is also doing well. Our car has the simplest of all possible motors on this car: an eight-valve gasoline unit, which has practically no obvious drawbacks. However, there are some interesting features. The first one touches the alternator belt. When replacing it, the belt should be correctly positioned on the pulley: in machines with air conditioning, a free stream should remain on the generator pulley on the left in the direction of travel, without an air conditioner - on the right. In the latter case, nothing criminal will happen even if the installation is incorrect, but manufacturers recommend installing it in such a way that will reduce the load on the bearings. The second is the ignition coil. Our car is equipped with one from Bosch, which is slightly different from the original coil. The body of the new coil is thinner, and there is a gap between it and the block, which does not exist in the case of the original spare part. From constant heating from the block, the coil body cracks, and the spark begins to pierce the ICE block. Konstantin has already encountered this, therefore, he speaks about this subtlety, and not the master of the service station, who has deviations in ICE operation our Renault did not find.

Car owner's opinion

Advantages of the car The competitors when choosing a car were Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai accent... The first car was rejected due to difficulty in maintenance and possible repair, and the second - the wife did not like outwardly (can you imagine, right? It turns out that the Simbol is nicer than the Accent!). There was also a variant of the Simbol in a richer configuration, but with high mileage... Konstantin explained his choice as follows:

I already know from experience that when buying a "used" car, you need to take a less "stuffed" one, but with less mileage. Therefore, I chose this one, at the time of purchase it ran only 38 thousand.

Today the mileage is 60 thousand. During this time, from unscheduled repairs, the springs, the ignition coil and the leaking working brake cylinder were replaced. For 11 years of operation - very good. So, what the master notes by systems. The motor is reliable and predictable, easy to maintain. Timing belt installation marks are located directly on the belt, which, when replaced, does not allow a single tooth to be mistaken.

Gearbox shifts are clear, it raises no objections. However, the foreman who inspected the car confirms that there were no cases of breakdowns of these boxes in his memory. The stove heats well, the light, according to the owner, is very good. The quality deserves praise paintwork... After last year Car accident got dents on the rear fenders and doors, but none. Despite the fact that the car often drives on the highway, there are no characteristic chips either. Well, there were no signs of corrosion on the body, although the car is in its twelfth year. Disadvantages of the car No matter how reliable the motor is, it is still rather weak. Trying to match the average flow rate, Konstantin managed to find out that the cutoff in second gear is triggered at 80 km / h. Over time, he made a wise decision: let him overtake whoever wants to, and this car is not for active driving. Of course, you should also forget about risky overtaking.

The absence of a tachometer looks like an absolute anachronism. The light switch has only fixed positions without the ability to "blink" the headlights. At self-service you will certainly come across a large number of bolts by 16, and the keys of such a rare dimension are not always worth it good money... As well as the cleverly contrived tetrahedron, which will be needed to unscrew the oil drain plug when replacing it in the internal combustion engine.

To fold the back of the rear seat, you need to lift the seat cushion and unscrew the mounting bolts. That is, the backrest seems to unfold, but in practice it is very inconvenient to use it. The trunk is large, but its opening is narrow, so a lot of little things will fit there, and something larger will have to be put on the back seat: the doorway allows. Also in the trunk, massive hinges are in the way, which eat up a lot of usable space when the lid is closed. The interior is narrow, so the "feeling of the elbow" is felt quite well. Yes, there is very little space above the head and at the legs. The author of this article was unable to sit behind the driver. We will, of course, make a discount for the owner's height of 196 cm, but nevertheless ... A short service life of the muffler is characteristic: unlike the body, it rots quickly and very willingly. Remembering how to replace it, the owner's eyes turn red.

The view in the mirrors is organized in such a way that the blind spots will be quite significant, which trains peripheral vision and attentiveness well, like a real Japanese ninja.

What they write on the forums

Basically, the owners of the Simbols say the same thing that Konstantin and the car service specialist told about. True, some note the insufficient efficiency of the "stove" and poor ventilation, which was not noted by the owner of our car. Practically in chorus they sing praises of galvanizing and the quality of paintwork, but sometimes dissatisfied people pour in with separate voices, although their remarks are rare and incoherent. Most owners are not happy with the performance of the suspension, whose good quality and we are also happy to confirm the correct setting. Many consider an essential plus the absolute contempt on the part of traffic police inspectors, hooligans and other people whose attention it is better not to attract. The downside is the lack of prestige and any interest on the part of the fair sex: the car is absolutely "not a boy". Yes, this is not a BMW, but it costs less. They note the complexity of its future sale, which, in general, is a plus for buyers: many sellers trade with pleasure and generosity of Santa Claus on New Year's Eve. But what people agree on is the opinion about the lack of dynamics on country roads and the poverty of the cabin. But we have already recalled this magic phrase: "Yes, this is not a BMW, but it costs less." Much cheaper. A lot of controversy is caused by the design of the body. The restyled Symbol looks more harmonious, but, they say, a person gets used to everything. Some owners of these cars admit with disarming honesty: "ugly, but I'm used to it." Maybe there are those who think the Symbol is a pretty car, but I have not seen such a car yet.

I am glad that frankly negative reviews do not meet. Either the owners of these cars are exceptionally intelligent people, or the Symbol is really so good. Rather, the second.

Subjective opinion

The car is not the worst for its class. The absence of many little things designed to minimize the price of the car is most likely justified. Manufacturers did not skimp on anything that could reduce the reliability or service life of the car.

And yet these little things coalesce into a big stain on the Symbol's reputation, making it kind of unfinished.

Perhaps, in a richer configuration, there will be no feeling of inferiority from, for example, the lack of illumination of the "glove compartment", tachometer, rear mudguards, adjusting the pause of the wipers and two more little things that the owner asked not to talk about. We will tactfully keep silent about the air conditioner, ABS, ESP and other options, which for many have already become the norm. Of course, none of this is there. But there is a driver's airbag in the most "vegetable" configuration, engine protection, there is a body resistant to corrosion, there is reliable motor and box. That is, everything you need for a successful and - which is very good for a "state employee" - relatively safe operation car. A rather controversial appearance (today I am delicate as never before) fades into the background in comparison with the interior design, so unlike the interior of the closest competitor - Logan. And the ride, I will not dissemble, is pleasant enough: the suspension does not "swear" even on significant irregularities and tram tracks, the motor is almost inaudible (if you do not turn it too much).

The whole car gives a feeling of a kind of good quality.

We managed to ride both in the city and outside the city. Very short first and second gears up to a speed of 50 km / h allow you to feel like in a car with quite acceptable dynamics. But as soon as you turn on the third, and the revolutions become far from maximum, the Symbol becomes lazy, like Emelya on the stove. In the city you can spit on it, but overtaking on the highway can become simply dangerous. Although here, I think, the head should work, and not the "cutoff". I can't even imagine how this motor will pull a car with air conditioning, which sometimes you want to turn on.

In my review of the Symbol, I will try not to compare it with anything. I will talk about what I saw and understood - exclusively according to the Yakut folk principle “I see the motor - I sing the motor”. The configurations of "Symbols" can be quite varied - in this case we will talk about "Expression" with a manual transmission-5 and a K4J-DOHC-16V-98hp engine, assembled in Turkey.
