At what level should there be oil in the engine on the dipstick? How to check the oil level in the engine competently? Cold Engine Oil Level

the main / Repairs

Checking the oil level in your car is necessary to maintain his life. This is one of the easiest species of regular maintenance Machines that can be performed independently. And not only because you would like to feel a caring car owner, how much because it is really important, and also often the automaker shifts the burden of regular checking the state of the car to the owner, including responsibility for non-compliance with such car service measures.

Check the oil is especially important before long trips, which means more intensive use of the engine. But how to correctly check the oil in the engine?

1. Find Propec

Check the oil level on the cold engine. Mobil 1 and many other manufacturers motor oil Recommended to check its level before the start of the machine when the oil is still cold. The bottom line is that the oil must drain into the oil pan from the engine compartment, otherwise - if not all oil is in the pallet, its level will be shown less than the real, because it is in the pallet that the oil level is checked. If you want to check the oil after a trip by car, wait ten-fifteen minutes to allow it to drain into the oil tray.

But in a very, on the contrary, it may be advisable to start the car for a while, and then drown out and also wait as much time before checking the oil. You need to start the car so that the oil is a little diluted (in severe frosts it is thick, that when checking again, it can show incorrect values).

However, on the senses (oil level verification means, about it is slightly lower) most modern cars There are two pairs of labels, respectively, which can be checked the level of oil both on cold and hot engine. Accordingly, there will be "Hot" or "Cold" next to these labels.

Typical probe to check the oil in the engine

So, put a car on a flat smooth horizontal surface. To get accurate readings, you must make sure that the oil will not be blocked by one of the sides of the pallet, which can give you a little inaccurate check. Try to find a relatively smooth horizontal surface, pour on it. If the car is standing on the descent, then, most likely, it will give a false meaning, showing the overestimated oil level, and, on the contrary, in case the machine stands on the rise, then the oil will be less than.

Go under the hood. Most often you can find a snatch that serves to open the hood cover, in the cabin in front of the driver's seat a little left - usually it looks in the form of a lever on it depicted, actually an outdoor hood. Pull this zag (or push, depending on the brand and car model) and you will hear a characteristic click in the hood area.

Hood opening lever

Now you need to get out of the car to find that the hood lid opted, and the gap between it and the car body appeared. You will also discover that something does not allow you to open the hood cover, dead holding it. In front of the middle of the cover of the hood shove your fingers into this slit to find the lever, which, in fact, does not give us to open the hood cover (sometimes the lever can be a bit displaced relative to the center - just take your fingers along the gap, and you will definitely find it). Pull it and lift the hood cover. Thus, the rotational space will open your eyes.

On some new models of cars, the hood will remain open (the hood cover will not fall back and closed), while on others you need to fix the hood cover with a special rod, which is usually folded under the edge of the hood. Free one end of this rod and stick it into a special locking hole in the hood.

Find the dipstick. On most cars, the oil level indicator will have red, orange or yellow (but in the overwhelming majority of cases all the same yellow) cap on top, depending on the model. It is a round or rectangular shape, looks like a comfortable handle to pull it and should be trapped directly from the engine cylinder block.

It should be borne in mind that most machines on the "machine" will have two probe under the hood: one to check the engine oil and one to check the automatic transmission oil. Property for automatic transmission is usually located on the back of the engine compartment or aside from the engine (often on the driver side), and such a dipstick itself is much longer than the dipstick from the engine compartment. The knob of the probe is usually pink or red. The main thing is to never confuse these two probe and do not add the engine oil in the gearbox therein, and vice versa - oil for the gearbox in the engine - it can cost you serious money.

Find clean paper towels or old rags - preferably white or light color.

2. Check the oil level

Remove the dipstick. Most probes about 25-35 centimeters long, but you will need to check the tip to get what you are looking for. Slowly pull the dipstick. It should not reach very difficult, but you may have to make a little effort to pull the knob of the sealer's knob itself. As soon as the probe moved at least a little bit, it should be quite easy to reach.

Examine the color and quality of the oil. The color and consistency of motor oil indicate its age, and perhaps other issues. As soon as you remove the dipstick, you can get good information about the quality of the engine oil. Motor oil in good condition and not requiring replacement should look like yellow brown, perhaps with a barely noticeable greenish tinge on the dipstick. In no case can the oil should be black - if it is black and opaque, then this is a signal to its urgent replacement.

Now wipe the oil dipstick from the oil. Oil should change in color, becoming more dark and, possibly, even black.

After you wiped the dipstick, plunge it again into the hole, from where you were pulled out, to the end - so that the knob of the probe again with some Natogi entered the seal. For the first time, when you pull the dipstick, you will not know a lot about the amount of oil, but only about quality, since the dipstick will be all in oil. Now, after you wiped the end and inserted it back into the hole, pull it back. Check the amount of oil. You will see two small points at the end of most probe: one point corresponds to the maximum oil level line in the oil pan, and the other means the minimum. The minimum point should be closer to the tip of the probe, and the maximum should be about 3-5 centimeters above the minimum. In a properly filled with oil engine and under the correct conditions of oil checking (remember, the horizontal surface and the washed into the pallet of the oil) the dipstick must be stained in oil to the level of approximately in the middle between the two these points.

If the oil line is on the dipstick below the minimum point, then it is necessary (and urgently) add oil into the engine. Oil should also not be higher than the maximum fill point, although the oil level and will be close to this point, if you check the oil on a hot engine.

In car operating instructions different marks It is recommended to periodically check the levels of liquids, including oil in the engine. Those dangerous are both situations: disadvantage or surplus.

The presence of lubrication provides the engine uninterrupted work, eliminating scaling, reducing the possibility of friction between the details to a minimum.

Sad consequences

Without lubrication, the engine in real operating conditions cannot work due to: high temperatures, high mobility of nodes, lack of ventilation, etc.

The causes of oil hunger can be:

  1. technical issues
  2. increased lubrication on a volunteer. Over time of operation of the engine, its appetite grows, and inside a closed system oil decreases
  3. changes in primary properties due to the increase in other particles in the composition (slags, dirt), under the influence of external conditions (sharp fluctuations in temperatures, dusting, pressure change)
  4. poor-quality oil flakes faster

The real consequences of the long-term operation of the car with low oil levels (lower minimum) - the destruction of the bearing, the crankshaft junction, the cylinder-piston group. All this will happen not instantly. The decomposition takes time and increased rev. Before the distant, you need to check the engine oil. As: on cold or hot - we will look further.

Do not think that overflowing the oil will not harm the motor. Such manipulations may harm no less.

Namely:

  • selns, gaskets, rubber seals are shifted from their places due to the expansion of the heated oil, which is so excess. As a result, lubricants may appear
  • increases gasoline consumption. Candles flooded with oil, the launch becomes problematic, the need for fuel increases, and power power aggregate Fall
  • the load on the crankshaft and other gas distribution mechanisms are increasing. Since there is nowhere to go oil, and the pressure is growing - foam bubbles appear on the surface, the homogeneity of the lubricant is reduced, the air volume increases, which leads to excellent pressure levels in different nodes. In the end, the cap. Repair or replacement
  • filter contaminated quickly, and the pump is wearing
  • suffer parts inside the combustion chamber. With an increased hurry of the engine, this can lead to a critical outcome.

Both options lead to the rapid wear of the motor and his breakdown. To prevent this, it is necessary to figure it out: how to check the oil in the engine on the cold or hot.

Level Measuring Guide

There is a sequence of actions applicable when measuring the lubrication level. Regarding cold or hot: how to check the engine oil - find out later.

  1. First, leave the car on the surface without visible beggars. So balance the indicators. Oil is measured in the crankcase, so if it has not yet fallen into it, it will not work out
  2. I pull out the measuring probe and diligently wear drying with rags. It is important that after cleaning it does not remain strains, coils and other pollution
  3. Insert the probe B. oil Carter, then remove
  4. In terms of compliance, we make a decision: add, not touch or merge.

It seems everything is available. But it has not reached the practice yet. It must be said that on the measuring probe 2 indicators - minimum and maximum. This is not by chance. If the oil is between these marks, then it is not particularly bred above the level. If we have the indicators below or above the interval - this is a reason to reflect, and what is wrong.

The second one to pay attention to is the color of the oil on the dipstick. This indicator will be able to orient you about this fluid in general (translucent, muddy, black). And, finally, to the main issue - the temperature of the engine when checking has or does not matter?

This question would not be so relevant if it were not for the difference in oil levels before and after heating. Rather, it is important to consider it in winter timeWhen the temperature difference between the state of rest (on the street) and the working regime is large.

A bit of theory. With increasing temperature, any liquid has properties to expand. The oil is rather a liquid structure than solid. And according to the idea should expand. However, the coefficient of this is not significant. This suggests that it should not be too different depending on temperatures. Then the volume of residual fluid in the engine will be influenced by the indicators, which did not have time to drain into the pallet.

On the other hand, in a significant minus, the viscosity of the oil rises. It seems to be a little bit under the pressure of the probe and does not show a real state. That is, it is fingered, recommendations to measure the level in the morning, after night sludge is fair. After all, oil is finally glass into the crankcase, and the labels are more than indicative. However, in winter, there may be no accurate result.

  1. We measure the level in the morning after a long standing of the car
  2. Warming up the engine or pass a few kilometers, then the wilderness, we give time to the oil (20-30 min)
  3. We produce measurements after operation.

If there was a minimum in the first step, and in the third average, you don't need to add anything. When first was the average level, and later he became above the maximum - no need to merge. But if first it was about the maximum, and then much higher - then it is worth a slight oil. Accordingly, after heating, the level is close to the mark of minimum - it is still worth adding, but not more liters. And observe the behavior of the car.

Many drivers are measured only after night. This is quite possible to restrict ourselves, but then it is necessary to make measurements before each use of the car. In addition, you may have the owner of a modern unit, where there are two minimum and maximum scales on the diploma - on cold or hot run. Then no extra manipulations should be done.

Another secret of oil focuss. In addition to the temperature influence, the amount of liquid in the pallet affects a low-quality valve. If it is closed in one of the moments of measurement, and the other is open, then the oil does not flow out of it first, and then complements the crankcase. Therefore, the level can jump, especially after the topping.

Before making a manipulation of normalization, pay attention to: the surface of the surface, the quality of the valve, the time of oil sludge after the engine is stuffed. And let our tips be useful for you!

One of the most important engine systems is lubricating. It is from its state that resource and quality depends the work of the DVS. The engine, filled in the engine, provides a thin film, thanks to which the bulbs and other defects of rubbing pairs are excluded. In order for the motor to work for a long time and did not give the owner of the problems, it is necessary not only to change the oil on time, but also periodically check its level. Today, cars are equipped with various sensors, which allow you to control the level without leaving the machine. Nevertheless, the most proven way is to use the probe to check the oil level in the engine. Today we will tell you how to use it, as well as how to check the balance lubricant In the gearbox.

How often to watch?

Engine oil plays far from a last role. It is important not only its pressure on the working motor, but also the residual level.

Yes, if everything is fine with the engine, the lubricant is enough for the entire 10 thousandth resource. But nevertheless no one is insured against leaks. Specialists recommend checking the level at least once every 2-3 weeks with everyday use. Also pay attention to oil puddles, which can be formed after parking. This may indicate problems with crankcase seal or leakage of other compounds.

Terms of verification

Please note that this operation should be performed on a muted and cooled motor. How much should you wait? It is enough 15 minutes so that the whole fluid accumulates in the pallet. Only so the dipstick to check the oil level in the engine will show a reliable result. If this operation is "on a hot", the result will defectively deviate from the actual one.

Another requirement is a flat surface. On the slightest lines or descents, the probe to check the oil level in the engine will show an inaccurate result. We also need a piece of dry and clean vet.

Start checking

Where is the dipstick for checking the oil level? This element is usually located in the exhaust manifold area. A typical probe to check the oil level in the engine is painted in yellow or red. It looks like shown in the photo below.

It can be painted and black. But in any case, its configuration and form will be unchanged. You can easily determine its location in the engine. After the motor is cooled, proceed to check. Give the element to the outside of the handle and wipe the dry cloth. Next, set it back into the hole. After a couple of seconds, the probe to check the oil level in the engine can be taken again. Now look at its testimony carefully.

Almost all cars he has two marks - Min and Mah. There are also intermediate divisions. What is the normal level? Indications should be between these two marks (maximum and minimum) or slightly above average. In the event that the lubricant is at the MIN mark, the engine will test oil starvation. In this case, the level must be urgently resumed. It is necessary to add oil only to that brand and viscosity, which was previously used when replacing. After that, check again. If it resumed to normal, install the probe to check the oil level back to the click and tighten the fuse.

As you can see, everything is quite simple. This operation does not occupy a lot of effort. With timely inspection, you can prevent the engine, thereby exercising his life.

Often drops level

It happens that the fluid level in the system falls. It often has to renew. Engine manufacturers note that natural oil care should not exceed one liter by 10 thousand kilometers. If more - you have problems with the engine. What is the reason?

Typically, it is a malfunction when they are locked and lowering the walls of the cylinders, the oil is straight into the chamber, where he burns along with fuel mixture. Externally, this factor can be determined by blue smoke of exhaust pipe. But not always he can manifest. If you have a turbocharged engine, lubrication can leave on the compressor. This is due to the malfunction of the turbine bushings and the imperteline. In any case, if the engine "eats" a lot of oil is a serious reason for diagnosis.

We look at the machine

Now everything more machines Equipped automatic in contrast to mechanics, here the transmission of torque is transmitted not to a dry disc, and ATP-liquid. It circulates throughout the transmission under pressure. With an insufficient level, serious malfunctions may occur. Therefore, you need to know how to use the dipstick to check the oil level in the automatic transmission. It is located directly in the box and has a similar handle.

Before you get it out, the transmission needs to warm carefully. Oil must reach operating temperature 90 degrees. For this, there is enough trip by 10-12 kilometers as usual. After that, you need to install the machine on a flat surface. Then, on the engine running engine, translate the automatic transmission lever to the "Parking" mode. Next, open the hood and give out the diploma to check the oil level in the box. If you have a car with a cross-location of the engine (front-wheel drive), then this element will be right side from probe internal Next, we wipe it with a dry cloth and set back. After 5-10 seconds, we get out.

Just like on the engine, there are two marks here - the minimum and maximum. The oil must be at the level not lower than the middle. After checking, set the probe to the place. If necessary, resume level up to normal.

About notes and Cold

It is worth noting that on different cars there is its own labeling of the automatic transmission.

So, notes means "hot" and indicates that the check should be carried out on the engine center. Some manufacturers require to install the box in diagnosing. If there is an inscription Cold on the dipstick, the check must be made on a muffled motor.

Is it possible to pour above the norm?

Experts do not recommend pouring the oil above the specified mark. On automatic transmission is fraught with high pressure. Superior oil will be squeezed through the glands and other seals. If the probe showed the level above the norm, it should be reduced before operating the car. The same goes and the engine. The perfect mark is higher than the average, not reaching the maximum. In this case, the lubricant will be perfectly cope with its work.

Conclusion

So, we figured out, and the box. As for mechanical transmissions, there is also a dipstick here. The check is performed in the same way "on the hot" (with the motor off). On the manual transmission, where there is no such probe, you should navigate the refueling hole. It is usually unscrewed by a 6-graded key. It is necessary to pour oil until it starts to peel from this neck.

Any driver should know how to check the engine oil level. Even if the girl, who generally does not understand the principle of operation of the motor, should also be able to do it too. It is just the necessary knowledge that many avoids big problems in the future. Moreover, despite the pretty simple procedure Checks, even experienced drivers do not always check the oil correctly. As a result, they receive inaccurate information regarding the oil level in the engine.

Necessity

Know how to check the oil level in the engine, it is necessary to support the car in good condition. If you do not check the level of oil for months, then in case of leakage, the driver does not know about it. As a result, the engine will work without lubrication, which will lead to its breakdown. Of course, in the absence of oil in the engine, the light bulb will turn on dashboardHowever, until this point, the motor will be for some time to test "oil starvation", which is extremely harmful to him.

Preparation

No need to have any special tools in order to check the oil level in the engine. At a minimum, you need a rag for the wiping of the probe. Therefore, it is recommended to have a vehicle with you, which is not sorry to be stained.

Note that even the masters argue between themselves on how to check the oil level in the engine correctly. Some say that the motor must be warm up, while others say that it is necessary to watch the level "on the cold". As a result of such disputes on some engines, the incnsidant to test the oil have hot and cold marks that need to be viewed with a cold / hot engine. In such disputes there is a share of truth: the hot oil is expanding, so the level on the dipstick may be higher. When oil cools, its volume decreases. Accordingly, on the dipstick level level will be lower.

So, the sequence of training:

  1. We put the car on a flat pad. To check whether the car is standing on a smoothly surface, just remove hand brake and turn on neutral transmission. If the car does not ride, then it means that it stands on a flat site.
  2. Wait about 10 minutes to all the oil after the engine operation of the glass into the pallet.
  3. Open the hood and proceed directly to the measurement.

How to properly check the oil level?

Now proceed directly to check:

  1. Remove the dipstick (usually a yellow handle) and inspect it. So far, it will not show us accurate level information, but will determine the condition of the oil. If it is too black and very viscous, it must be replaced.
  2. Now we wipe the dipstick with a rag and shook back to Carter until it stops.
  3. Now remove it and look at the remaining track. In order to determine whether oil is enough in the pallet, you need to navigate on notches that necessarily have on the dipstick.

Sexing on the probe show the minimum and maximum oil level. If after checking you will find that the level below the MIN mark, then it means that the lubricant must be addressed. Ideally, the mark must be in the middle - between two notches min and max. In cases where the oil level is not detected at the probe at all (dry dipstick), it is necessary to add lubricant urgently. And in general, it is desirable to not even continue to move on the car, in the engine of which is very few oil. In this case, it is necessary to go to the car shop and buy at least a liter of oil, add it, make sure that the lubrication level came to normal. After that, it is advisable to go to a hundred. There must determine where the oil is moving.

If necessary, the topping is desirable to use the same lubricant that is in the motor at the moment. Mix oil different manufacturers, viscosity and on different basics is extremely undesirable.

It makes no sense to tell how to check the level of engine oil in the engine running on diesel fuel. There this procedure is also carried out.

Finally

Now you know how to correctly measure the oil level in the engine, and you can produce this procedure yourself. From time to time the lubrication level must be checked, because in this way you can detect the lack of oil and solve the problem with the engine until it has become too late. This is especially true of car owners with big mileage. There are not new engines, and they are not on warranty service. Therefore, the oil check is a mandatory monthly procedure that takes only one minute.

Regular check of the oil level in your car is vital to maintain it in good condition. This is one of the easiest performed car maintenance manipulations that you should perform regularly, especially before long-distance travel, since it is during this period that the engine works in the most intensive mode. You should explore the location of all engine compartment sensors, learn to diagnose oil-related problems and solving them.

Steps

Part 1

Find Prope

Refer to the user manual. Mobil One and other oil manufacturers recommend checking the level of engine oil before starting the move while it is still cold. However, individual manufacturers are recommended to do it after the engine warming up, so it is worth reading the user's manual and find recommendations in it for your car. All oil during level check should be in the oil pan, and not in the engine, as it happens during the movement of the car. Immediately after the trip, the measuring probe will show a low level of oil, as a result of which when taking oil, there is a chance of overflow. If you want to check the oil level right after movement, then you should wait for five minutes to wait for this procedure - ten minutes while the oil stalks into the oil pan.

    • In very cold weather, it is advisable to ride a little by car to heat the oil slightly and make it less viscous. Before checking the level, let the engine work for a few minutes, and then give him five minutes to cool.
    • Many people disagree in opinions about the correctness of the inspection during a preheated or cold engine. Some manufacturers recommend checking engine oil in a heated state, and this method works great if you know which line on the diploma should be paid attention to. With cold oil, the level mark will be below the "minimum", however, when the car moves, the oil will begin to expand as the engine dials with a normal operating temperature.
    • Synthetic oil high temperatures expands more "ordinary" oil, so that when used synthetic oil You can get a more accurate result when checking a level in a cold engine. If any doubts should be consulted with your mechanic.
  1. Park the car on a flat smooth surface. To obtain accurate readings, you need to be confident in the uniform distribution of oil on the surface of the pallet, and non-compliance with this rule can give you inaccurate data. Try to find a relatively flat surface for parking and checking the oil level.

Raise the hood. Usually the hood opening knob is located near the driver's leg from the door. You should pull or push this handle, depending on the brand and model vehicle. Then you need to get out of the car and find a latch under the front of the hood, which is usually in its center, and sometimes a little shifted sneak. Pulling it and lift the hood to check the engine.

    • On some cars, the hood independently remains in the raised position, in others it requires a reference rod, which, as a rule, is in the folded state on the front or lateral part of the engine compartment. Raise the rod, insert the place in the designed to do this (it must be located on open hood) And release the hood.
  2. Find the oil probe. In most cars, the dipstick is equipped with a red, orange or yellow plastic tip. It is made in the form of a circular or rectangular loop, which protrudes from the engine block on one of its sides. In some cars, such as Honda and some models Ford. The dipstick is built directly into the top of the valve cover. Oil dipstice is usually located on the side of the passenger or in the front of the subcontrol space and has a probe with a diameter of approximately a pencil.

    • In most cars, oil probe are marked with a symbol in the form of an old oil lamp (like a lamp from all the famous tale about Gina). After detecting the location of the oil probe, you can start removing and checking the oil level.
    • Most cars S. automatic box The gears have two oil probe: one to check the oil level in the motor, and the second to check the oil in the gearbox. The probe for the gearbox is located in the back of the driver side space from the driver side and is inserted into a slightly larger diameter tube. Transmission fluid It has red or pink color. Do not confuse these two completely different liquids when pouring, because such inattention can cost you serious financial spending.
  3. Arm yourself with paper towels or old rags. When checking the oil level, it is important to always have several paper towels or some fabric, which can be used to wip the probe or checking the oil consistency. Paper towels, as a rule, are suitable best for these purposes, as they have a contrast white background for a more careful study of the oil color. They will also be useful to wip hands.

    Part 2

    Check oil

Remove the dipstick. The length of the probe in most cases ranges from 30 to 90 centimeters, and to obtain the desired readings, you need to explore its tip. Slowly pull the dipstick, holds at the same time as a paper towel is drawn near the port of the probe in order to miss it from the excess oil and prevent splashing.

  • When pulling the majority of oil probe, you do not need to pull it too much or turn it, but in some situations you will have to make a slight effort for extracting. After the exit of the tip from the probe, the rest of the probe should be fine enough. Do not make excessive effort.

Examine the color and condition of the oil. On color and consistency of engine oil, it is possible to determine its wear, as well as other issues relating to the efficiency of the engine, which may require immediate solution. Having stretched the dipstick, you will immediately be able to determine the state of the engine oil. Not requiring replacement engine oil on a rag has a slightly yellowish-greenish color and should not be too dark. Wipe the oil from the end of the probe and explore the remaining track on the rag.

  • As the oil contaminates, the oil will change its color from gold or amber to brown and black, since in the process of friction gradually begins to get an increasing number of particles from the engine. Metal chips and individual particles gradually scratch the walls of the engine cylinders throughout the entire period of operation, so oil should change in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and to the service intervals defined by it (check the instruction manual or service book and find the interval in it service Your car).
  • Examine color. Oil has a watery or dense consistency? Is it black or dark? If there are such signs, you should drive off the car in the car service to replace the oil or do it yourself.
  • Watch the dipstick and re-lower in the probe. When you first extract the probe, you will not be able to obtain objective information about the level of oil, since all its divisions are poured as the car moves. After pulling out the probe and study the color of the oil, it is necessary to wipe it with its end and insert back into the hole, and then immediately pull it back to remove accurate readings.

  • Check the oil level. At the end of most probes there are two small points, one of which corresponds to the maximum level of oil in the oil pan, and the other, respectively, minimal. The minimum point is closer to the tip of the probe, and the maximum is located approximately 2.5 cm from the minimum one above the PC. When the engine is properly filling the engine, the level should be located approximately in the middle between these two points.

    • The "minimum" oil level should not be in close proximity to the minimum point. If the oil level is between the point of the minimum and the tip of the probe, then you should simply add oil
    • The oil level should never exceed the maximum filling mark, however, when the engine is heated, this value can be close to the maximum. In this case, you will need to drain some of the excess engine from the engine.

    Part 3.

    Top of oil

Read the user manual. Before starting the procedure, you need to determine the scale of the oil brand you need. This is very important to do, as the area of \u200b\u200boil can vary in the same models of the car and depend on the time of year. Very unwise to mix two of different types Oils, so you should carefully study the user's manual or entrust the fill of the oil into the car to your local mechanics.

    • You can also find out the type of oil required by your car, if you communicate with the staff of one of the auto parts stores. On the brand and car model they should find you suitable oilOr you can learn this when reading a specific user manual partition reading.
  • Find the oil-tapping lid, which is located at the top of the engine. This cover usually has a well-notable "Oil Fill" label, and sometimes the type of engine oil used in your engine is printed on it. When labeled, for example, 5W30, you will always know the required type of oil fill. Remove the lid, wipe it with a paper towel or cloth and insert a clean funnel into the hole.

    • You must use a funnel when pouring oil into the engine, otherwise there is a risk of its shedding on the engine block, which will give a terrible smell during combustion and, perhaps more serious problems.
  • Fill suitable oil in small portions. It is important to give extra time to flow the oil into the pallet of the crankcase. You should fill the funnel with one sharp movement and then add oil as it descends into the engine. Avoid overflow across the edges of the funnel.

    • Do not panic if you still managed to shed some oil in motor compartment. Spilled oil does not pay much danger, although it can smell well and smoke with a strong heating of the engine. Try to wipe it as much as possible with a cloth or towel.
