Owner reviews

The design of the C4 sedan undoubtedly sets it apart from the general stream. Comfortable inside. Switches and other buttons are ergonomically located. Plenty of space on back seat, large trunk.

Pleases heating windshield... The climate is very comfortable - there are many settings. There is a bluetooth headset for the phone. The wiper works adequately in the "auto" mode.

Fuel consumption is 30-50 percent higher than declared. Bad light- for this class of car, xenon should be in the database. Indicators of the remaining mileage before refueling are not relevant in principle, and there is no indication of the remaining fuel in liters.

Inconveniently located switches for heating the front seats. It happens that you accidentally turn on the heating, but there is no indication. The handling on the track is not good. On a wet road and a snowy "mess" you have to "catch" a car. This is perhaps the biggest minus, which covers all the pluses.

Video review

Citroen C4 sedan - great car... There are claims, but these are even more nitpicking, because there is nothing to get to the bottom of, by and large. If you are thinking of taking it, do not even think about it. Competitors do it at once.

Huge salon. Awesome engine, no turbo lag. Very quiet and comfortable front and rear for the C class.

The disadvantage is a very large steering wheel. Constantly dirty right leg, because the automatic machine is so easy to steer that the right hand itself falls on the right leg and dirt forms on the leg. Moreover, both at a speed of 40 km / h and at a speed of 130 km / h. In general, despite the armrest, you need room for your right hand.

The owner drives a Citroen C4 1.6 (150 hp) on a 2014 automatic

The engine power is quite enough and the car is quite nimble, but it requires a quick gear change, I constantly go in 4-5 gears in the city (while the consumption is 8.4-8.5 at an average speed of 27 km / h).

Of the minuses - a bad view on the right! Sufficiently tight gear knob. The suspension is harsh. I was very surprised by the lack of an indicator of the engine temperature ... How's that? You stand in a traffic jam and wonder what's wrong with the temperature ...

The shumka is excellent, the permeability is super! In winter, I climbed in those places where the crossovers did not fit. Put in first gear, release the clutch, and she'll pull it out!

Not a single cricket in a year and a half! I read the reviews of other owners of the Citroen C4 and wonder if I was lucky. At least, I have never heard a single bad word about the car from a single C4 owner.

The car is economical, drove in the heat with air conditioning and an average speed of 120 km / h, the computer showed only 6.8 liters per 100 km. In winter, at -35 I started up at once and the heat in the cabin.

Alexander Blinov, review of the Citroen C4 Sedan 1.6 (116 HP) on the mechanics of 2013

When I drove the car (about 1,100 km), I naturally compared it with the sold Focus.

Citroen pluses:
- the suspension is softer;
ESP system works more delicate and invisible;
- with a more comfortable climate (there was an air conditioner in Focus);
- consumption is lower, by about 1.5-2 liters.

Cons of Citroen:
- for a long time I could not find the optimal position behind the wheel, and after it seemed to me that I found, after 300-400 kilometers, my knees began to hurt, which I had never felt in previous cars;
- the spouse also cannot find the optimal location and noticed that the clutch and brake pedals are much higher than the gas pedal;
- I don't feel the trunk, but it's not critical, since there are parking sensors.

The owner drives a Citroen Ce4 1.6 sedan (116 hp) MT 2016

Externally beautiful, a lot of heaped up in my configuration. The seats are bomb! I like music, excellent quality bluetooth, rear view camera, parking sensors in a circle, blind spot monitoring. Large, roomy interior and trunk.

Mirror link does not work, navigation without traffic jams is useless, turning on the heated seats is terribly inconvenient, especially with nails ... The rain sensor is pensive, I'm used to being more sensitive. There is not enough rear wiper, in all other cars it was ...

Feedback on new Citroen C4 sedan 1.6 (150 hp) with automatic 2017

The first 2,000 km flew by in less than a month, quite often I rode to the dacha.

Pros:
1. Light and rain sensor, turned on and forgot. Works by itself.
2. Heated priests, quickly. Enough to turn on for 5 minutes at +5 on the street.
3. Climate. To stand to warm up the car in order to keep it warm, did not see the joke. The first 5 minutes on the move and a comfortable temperature in the car.
4. Cruise and limiter. Played for a week, but when driving around the city are absolutely useless. For traveling on the highway far - I liked it.
5. Horse power. If the car carries me one or two, then more than enough. When landing in 3-4 people, acceleration can not be called dynamic, but at 130-140 km / h the engine does not yell and is quite going.
6. There are no crickets, the plastic is super soft.

It is still difficult to say about the cons. The first time, there were super sensitive brakes, but it passed after 1,500 km. The rain sensor seems to dull a little, I don't always like how the wipers work in automatic mode.

Upset a trip to a car dealership to turn on the can-bus to make the signalization friends. Time, and even 2,000 rubles. have taken.

Fuel consumption is still difficult to pinpoint. If on the highway, then in the area of 7-8 liters. On the way to and from work - a continuous traffic jam, and the consumption is in the region of 11 liters (it would be more correct to add that 23 km in 2 hours).

Review of Citroen C4 1.6 (116 HP) mechanic 2017

14.09.2016

Citroen C4 is one of the most popular French cars, which has become quite widespread in our market. Most often there is a five-door hatchback body, a three-door version is also available, which with its bright design more attracts the younger generation, and a sedan. The reliability of a used Citroën raises many questions for many motorists, and today we will try to find out what surprises a used Citroën C4 can present and what to look for when choosing this car.

In 2004, the premiere of a new model called C4 took place, which replaced “ C ITROEN Xsara ". In July 2008, the company carried out a restyling, as a result of which the car received cosmetic changes in appearance, new equipment options, and two new gasoline engines appeared in the range of engines. In the fall of 2010, sales of the new Citroen C4 started, at first glance you can't say that the car is built on the platform of the previous generation, it has changed so significantly appearance... The former Citroen was one of the most compact, and the successor has grown noticeably, but the chassis and power units remain the same.

Advantages and disadvantages of Citroen C4 with mileage

The vast majority of cars presented on secondary market, are equipped with gasoline engines, but sometimes diesel versions are also found. In line gasoline engines eat frankly weak aggregates 1.4 (90 HP) and 1.6 (110, 120 and 150 HP), and a more powerful two-liter engine (136, 144 and 180 HP), as well as diesel motors volume 1.6 (92 and 110 hp) and 2.0 (138 and 150 hp). The motors of the French manufacturer are very sensitive to fuel quality, and if not used high quality gasoline, the engine will quickly clog up. The service life of the candles is also significantly reduced, it is worth noting that Citroën is not one of those cars on which absolutely any candles can be installed. There have been cases when, due to the use of poor fuel, carbon deposits formed on the valves after 50-60 thousand km. Also, a possible drop in compression with an insignificant mileage, as a result, the car will lose power, and on the XX the revolutions will constantly float. Therefore, before buying a used Citroen C4, it is imperative to make a diagnosis and measure the compression.

For cars with a 1.6 engine, after 100,000 km of run, the thermostat fails, as a result antifreeze flows out and the engine overheats. Also, after 100 thousand km, the ignition coils and the cooling system pump will have to be changed. Almost all motors have a timing belt drive, which must be changed every 60,000 km. Otherwise, French-made gasoline engines are reliable, and diesel ones are considered one of the best, and rarely surprise.

Transmission

A five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic transmission were installed on the Citroen C4. If about motors, provided they are filled with good fuel, we can say that there are no special problems with them, then the automatic transmission is considered the weak point of the car. The automatic transmission was developed by the PSA Peugeot-Citroën concern together with Renault, and all the problems that arise with this gearbox are related to the pressure distribution valves. If you buy a car with a mileage of 100,000 km or more, and the machine has not been repaired yet, you can be sure that you will get an expensive repair. To extend the life of this unit, you need to ensure that the box does not overheat (slipping and prolonged traffic in traffic jams in the heat are contraindicated).

The clutch of the cars on the mechanics is quite reliable and goes 110 - 120 thousand kilometers. In rare cases, it breaks down on a run of 50-60 thousand km. release bearing, and if such a problem happened, then, as a rule, the owners changed it along with the clutch. As for shifting a manual transmission, if suddenly you hear a crunch when shifting, then most likely the problem is in the synchronizers.

Driving performance Citroen C4

The suspension of the Citroen C4 is simple, there is a standard MacPherson strut in front, and a semi-independent beam in the back. Shock absorbers are also common, which should delight used car buyers. Medium Service Lines Shock Absorbers, wheel bearings, ball joints, CV joints 80 - 90 thousand km, but the stabilizer struts and tie rods, on our roads turn into consumable, their resource is not more than 40,000 km. V rear suspension knocks appear earlier than in the front, since here weakness silent blocks that fail with a run of 30 - 40 thousand km. The shock absorber boot can also knock, which walks up and down the rod.

The vehicle is equipped with an electro-hydraulic power steering. The hydraulic pump can leak through the chip to which the power cable fits, and in case of replacement it will have to be reconfigured the electronic unit management.

Body and interior

The body of the Citroen C4 is not prone to corrosion, and the first bulges paintwork can be seen on a 7 - 8 year old car, and even then not always. But the metal here is light and soft, so dents appear quickly enough.

The build quality of the cabin, given the class of the car, is quite good, and the finishing materials also deserve praise. The owners of cars of the first years of production complain that crickets appear quite quickly in the Citroen C4 cabin. The manufacturer took these remarks responsibly and on machines recent years release, this problem has been completely eliminated. In terms of electrics, most French cars with our realities and climate are not doing as well as we would like, and this car is no exception. Everything is complicated by the fact that in cold and damp weather you observe a failure in electronics, and as soon as you enter a warm and dry box of a car service, everything starts working properly.

Outcome:

Citroen C4 with mileage depreciates quickly enough, and this is not casual, since by one hundred thousand kilometers the car can throw big troubles. The first one will be automatic transmission, and even if we consider the option only with mechanics, then problems with electrics still cannot be avoided. The suspension is not bad, but it's hard to call it a model of reliability. If we conclude, in general, then this car can only be bought with mechanical box, and after professional diagnostics.

Advantages:

  • Exterior and interior.
  • The quality of the interior finishing materials.
  • Quite good insulation.
  • Low fuel consumption.
  • Safety.
  • Comfortable soft suspension.

Flaws:

  • Soft metal
  • Automatic transmission.
  • Electrical problems.
  • Many service stations refuse to take the car for repair.
  • It depreciates rapidly.

Why do they buy it?

When asked to the owner of C4 why he chose a car of this particular brand, many answer: "Citroen is a state of mind." And it doesn't matter that immediately after buying a new car, it loses in price much more than its competitors-classmates - 13-17%, depending on the configuration.

For its bold design and ingenious solutions, such as a fixed steering wheel hub, the car is forgiven for a lot. Including - unimportant sound insulation and harsh suspension. And also annoying breakdowns that occur, however, more often during the warranty period.

We are gradually losing comfort ...

The standard Blaupunkt audio center sometimes stops reading discs, and contact is lost in the climate control regulators: when you turn the wheel, the temperature changes from one extreme to the other. On machines produced in 2004-2006, the gears of the heater flaps often wore out and the locks froze rear doors... The latter began to protect from moisture with additional plastic shields, and later completely changed the design.

The refusal of electric seat heating in 2008 became widespread. The insidiousness is that the elements of the back and cushions are connected in series, and when one of them breaks (more often in the back), the entire seat stops heating. Repairs are not easy as the heater is integrated into the padding to which the upholstery is glued. That is, it is a single piece, and not cheap: a fabric back costs 30 thousand rubles, and a leather back is twice as expensive! You will not envy if the car warranty has already expired.

Until 2007, windscreens sometimes cracked spontaneously. Let's pay tribute to the dealers: they did not even try to fight off, looking for chips from stones invisible to the eye.

There were cases of unsuccessful fixing of side moldings: after gluing in new glass, they often bulged. And the lower one, on a frill, slid off the glass at all, revealing a huge gap. In principle, not scary, but if annoying, put the molding on the sealant.

Guilty and Decisions

The owners themselves are usually to blame for the failures of power windows - they kept the windows ajar in the rain, which caused the door panel to flood. The windshield washer motor, made at the same time with the valve, has recently become noticeably more reliable. But headlamp washers, alas, fail at least as often as before. In order to get rid of the defect, on machines Kaluga assembly... have simply removed this option. And at the same time they intend to exclude seat heating: no details - no problem.

Overheated in the sun, the plastic front fenders sometimes warp and begin to cling to the edge of the door when it is opened. Moreover, surprisingly, this mostly happens on the starboard side. Don't worry: as soon as the wing cools down, the gap with the door will return to normal. But still it is better, by loosening the fasteners, to move the wing slightly forward. Or not to park the car in the sun.

TU5: Dashing Trouble Begins

One of the most common engines is the 109 hp 1.6 hp TU5 gasoline engine. (see Model History). At first, the unit was not famous for the reliability of the throttle assembly: due to warpage of the plastic shutter, it worked unstably on Idling and transient modes. The supplier of the assembly, the company Bosch, was at first at a loss: nowhere, except for Citroen, they did not notice anything similar. However, the unit was finalized by making the dampers of more heat-resistant plastic, and from about the end of 2006 the malfunction disappeared.

In the same 2006, a batch of machines with defective block heads passed. The landing of the valve guides turned out to be weakened, which is why oil oozed along the gap with the head body. Sometimes it took more than a liter per thousand kilometers! Of course, the valves were overgrown with a thick layer of carbon and either jammed in the guides or burned out. Be that as it may, the case turned into a serious repair (exclusively under warranty). Considering that the defect was obvious, massive and transient, we undertake to assure: all the motors have been repaired, and today it is unlikely to face such a disaster.

The timing belt drive on the TU5 is belt-driven, so strictly follow the replacement times. At first, it was prescribed to change after 80 thousand km, and later the period was increased to 120 thousand. But experts recommend adhering to the old recommendations, since there were belt breaks with a run of just over 100 thousand km.

EP6: Bad Legacy

In 2008, the TU5 engine was gradually replaced by a more modern EP6 unit (1.6 l, 120 hp), jointly developed by the PCA and BMW concerns. Here the camshaft is driven by a chain. Do you hope she won't be demolished? No matter how it is: the first signs of excessive elongation make themselves felt as early as 50-60 thousand km. But this is not the most unpleasant: the sprocket on the crankshaft is fixed only by friction (there is no key or pin), and sometimes the central bolt does not hold. There are cases when he unscrewed itself, of course, with sad consequences.

The situation is even worse with the turbocharged EP6DT engine: if the sprocket turns a little here, the electronics will turn off the turbine. And this is also unsafe - imagine what this happens when overtaking!

The operation of the control motor of the valve lift mechanism, as mechanics joke, contradicts the laws of physics: instead of current, oil flows through the wires. It seeps down the regulator stem and, passing through the entire motor, finishes it off. Fortunately, this is a warranty case - the dealer will shell out for 7150 rubles (work plus spare parts).

EW10A waiting for lapping

The two-liter EW10A is familiar from the C5 model. If the cold motor does not hold idle speed and "fails" in transient modes, your way to the service. There, cast the spell "initialization", and the specialists will immediately understand: the elements of the peripheral equipment of the engine have ceased to understand each other.

The process of grinding in characters is simple: a scanner is connected on a cold engine, it is put into the sensor learning mode and, starting the engine, it is warmed up to working temperature(before turning on the fan). After that, the electronics begins to work harmoniously, as a single organism.

Cars with an ET3 engine are extremely rare on the market. It's a pity, because this is one of the most reliable gasoline units... Statistics on diesels that are not officially supplied to us are scarce. It is only known that in Europe they work without serious breakdowns, but our closest neighbors, Belarus and Ukraine, sometimes fail with expensive fuel equipment.

AKP - it couldn't be worse

About automatic box(the notorious AL4) usually speaks very emotionally - for many years the French have not been able to achieve its reliability! Either an error will be displayed on the pressure difference (does not hold the valve), then the entire valve body will malfunction, or even break off the band brake and the unit will jam. Sometimes, a brand new car could not leave the transporter on its own! So the owners go to the service, as if to work (by the way, read one of the stories in the "Forum" section). You don't know which is better - to take a car with a machine gun and constantly pray for it, or to prefer a mechanic.

But she is not a miracle of technology either - noisy, with an indistinct cable drive... In addition, on some cars, it taps with the input shaft, complaining of increased axial play. It happens that a tooth on the gear wheel of the main pair flies out and pierces the crankcase. These problems are known even from Xara, from which the unit was borrowed, but, alas, it was not possible to bring it to mind.

... and other little things

The engine temperature sensor fails regularly. Some owners have already changed it three times, which is why they came to the conclusion: evolution has not affected this detail.

The generator is also a wimp - after three or four years it surrenders under the influence of anti-icing chemistry. In winter, the starter often fails: the retractor relay clicks, but the electric motor does not rotate. This is due to the abundance of grease inside the relay. Having frozen, it reliably isolates the power contacts, and in order to bring the unit back to life, sometimes it is enough to simply remove the excess.

It turns out that evolution is not always good. Using this model as an example, I dare say: the French did not have enough revolutionary spirit (or funds?) To radically change the design and at once eradicate childhood diseases of problematic units and assemblies.

Nice car, but innovative design alone won't get you far.

We would like to thank the Citroen Center Moscow company on Viktorenko Street for assistance in preparing the material.

Frisky high-torque engine, manual transmission with a hint of sportiness, sane clear responses to the steering wheel, moderately light at speed, heavier when braking. Good insulation for an inexpensive car. Comfortable seating, the back sofa is very comfortable. Large salon, when compared with classmates, for rear passengers there is enough space. Roomy trunk with a large opening, everything is finished with fabric. Spare parts prices are comparable to AvtoVAZ - there are no problems with them.

Citroen C4, 2010

I recently bought a Citroen C4 in Minsk. The machine works fine, no complaints. By comfort Citroen The C4 is on par with more expensive models. Under the hood 120 Horse power that do not give mock big cars over my runabout on the road. Of the minuses, I can point out low reliability. The engine error light was on once - bad gasoline... The second time I visited a car service about the alarm - it was malfunctioning. But in the end, there were more advantages. So to everyone who does not have money for a business class foreign car, I recommend purchasing this wonderful Citroen car C4. Advantages of the car: Comfort, design, engine. Disadvantages of a car: Reliability.

Faster, faster. C4 is screwed into a gentle ninety-degree arc at a speed of about 120 km / h, as if prompting to check the limit of the adhesion properties of rubber. One feels that the characteristics of the suspensions, as well as of the powerful brakes, are designed not just for the potential of a 120-horsepower engine, but with a large margin.

I slow down, put the automatic transmission into normal Drive mode and increase the pace again. A few minutes later, after a series of intensive acceleration and deceleration, the realization of the symbolism of the S button on the automatic transmission selector panel comes. In normal mode, the car accelerates in exactly the same way as in sports. You can't feel the difference.

Perhaps there will be enough sprints for today. And we postpone the arguments about the motor, gearbox and acceleration until tomorrow.

Day three

Thursday, 8:00 am. Freshly. I hop into the cozy C4 and immediately turn the heated seats to maximum. Yeah, here are the traces of unification inside lineup of the PSA concern. The heating rollers and door handles are exactly the same as on Peugeot vehicles. The orange color of the instrument illumination is another feature that unites the models of the two "allies" in the alliance. Although in the top version of the C4, Exclusive, the backlight can still be changed from white to blue.

Here is the turn to Yaroslavskoe shosse, along which the main part of the way from my house to the office passes. You will have to drive on it for about an hour, just enough to check the acceleration again and evaluate the operation of the engine and transmission of the French hatchback.

But first, a few words about fuel consumption. For three days of operation, which combined both suburban "gaps" and standing in traffic jams, the average consumption of C4 was about 9.5 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers. Two liters more than the brochure says.

"Feed" the 1.6-liter EP6 four-cylinder engine, due to high degree compression equal to 11 is possible only with gasoline with octane number not lower than 95. Power unit designed in collaboration with the BMW concern (which uses it in its MINI cars), therefore, the valve timing system uses the Variable Valve Lift and Timing injection system (VTi for short), which is structurally similar to the Valvetronic system of the Bavarian company. This mechanism allows you to get rid of throttle, thereby reducing hydrodynamic losses at the inlet, and making the mixture formation process even more precise. The engine complies with environmental Euro-V standards, but at the same time willingly turns up to high revs and is distinguished by smooth characteristics of the increase in power and torque.

Engine power is 120 HP @ 6,000 rpm and torque is 160 Nm @ 4,250 rpm

As noted earlier, in the first two gears the car accelerates very briskly, if not aggressively, but ... From about 60 km / h, as soon as the "automatic" switch to third or fourth gear, a pessimistic thoughtfulness appears in its work, strongly affecting the dynamics of acceleration. In the city and on suburban highways, this is not very noticeable. City traffic rarely allows you to accelerate at high speeds, but on the highway you can pick up a certain pace and maintain it calmly. But outside the city, with high-speed overtaking on two-lane roads, you feel the lack of dynamics very sharply. Rebuild into the left lane, press the pedal to the floor ... and wait. A second, two, three - doubts about the safety of the maneuver being performed are already creeping in - and then the car finally starts to overtake the passing transport at the very least. The French claim that the passport acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h is 12.5 seconds. According to my own feelings, and according to the measurements of colleagues in automotive research, C4 accelerates to "hundreds" for another two seconds longer. But the most critical thing is that the car also spends about 10 seconds to accelerate from 80 to 120 km / h. It seems, real expense fuel exceeded the passport precisely because of the box, forcing the driver to press the gas pedal more often and more sharply until it stops.

When budget car the use of the old four-speed automatic machine can still be explained by the desire to keep the price at a competitively low level. But in the case of the test C4, many systems of which are clearly designed for a higher dynamic potential, the sense of using this "thoughtful" AT8 box raises considerable doubts. By the way, the AT8 is neither more nor less a modernized version of the old "machine" AL4. The changes affected the valve body and control program, as well as the torque converter - now it is new, by the German company ZF. All this was intended to increase the reliability of the "machine". Let's see how the six-speed "robot" Aisin, installed on the C4 E-HDi diesel version, the test of which will soon appear on the pages of our portal, will react to the gas pedal, as well as on the 1.6 THP version with a supercharged engine, available only to Europeans.

Fourth day

In the past, Citroen has produced vehicles with an avant-garde design and technical solutions that were ahead of their time. Once upon a time, the French were among the first to use diesel engines, hydropneumatic suspension, hydraulic power steering, disc brakes, swivel controllable headlights ... The era of unification and cost reduction dictates its own rules, and now Citroen produces solid European hatchbacks, designed with cold calculation in accordance with all the canons of modern automotive industry. This approach helps to create a product that will appeal to and suit the requirements of the widest possible audience of consumers. But there is also a side effect - C4 has lost its uniqueness.

It's warm outside, plus 20, we, together with the "fourth" smoothly roll down the boulevard towards the Citroen office. Sorry to part with the French hatchback. As soon as the driver "switches" to a calm and neat "European" driving mode, the C4 generates only positive emotions.
