We decided to replace the Classics enough in a simple way- take an existing model and make it as cheap as possible. Lada Kalina was taken as a donor, and this is not accidental, because this particular model is relatively fresh in the entire line of AVTOVAZ, in addition, it is successful enough to be painlessly "worsened". However, let's not be too categorical about the new product before it was fully evaluated in our test drive Grants.

The Kalina platform has been seriously modified, the dimensions have been increased, now the length is 4260 mm, the height is 1500 mm, and the width is 1700 mm. The silhouette of its predecessor is easily guessed in the outlines of the new item, but the front and rear parts are completely new here.

The new ribbed hood has been raised, so the Grant looks more modern and sleek. The design of the front part is complemented by a bumper with integrated foglights and air intakes. Of course, in the simplest version of the Grants, buyers will receive a bumper without foglights and even unpainted, in the case of the Standard equipment, but all these steps are aimed at achieving the lowest possible price.

The rear of the Granta is less sleek, but the downsides of the massive design are more than offset by the increased practicality. Granta's trunk has a volume of 480 liters, which is one of the best indicators in class "B". As design solution It is worth noting the curves on the boot lid, which not only accentuate the overall design, but also add rigidity to the lid. And here taillights so far they turned out to be unsuccessful, they look good in design, but as the Grants test drive showed, the lights fog up quite seriously when it rains. We hope that this problem will be solved by AVTOVAZ itself in the near future.

Interior Grants is a combination of simplicity and functionality. The minimum possible number of hard plastic parts made the interior of the novelty not the most beautiful, but cheap and with a minimum number of potential sources of noise, crickets and squeaks.

The three-spoke steering wheel does not have any electronic controls, but in such a budget car, this was predictable. The dashboard is informative enough, everything is in its place, and the readings are quickly read.

Our own Lada Granta test drive confirmed that the front seats of the car are comfortable enough, but they clearly lack lateral support. In the back row, if desired, you can accommodate three people, but without much comfort - they are designed for the comfort of only two passengers.

A wide range of power units allows you to choose the most suitable option for yourself. Of course, there are no 200-horsepower options here, but for budget models, the power range from 82 to 98 hp is quite enough, especially since the plans are to equip this car with a 106-horsepower unit.

The test drive clearly showed that the existing set of power units is quite enough for this light model. At the same time, an important indicator of the satl is fuel consumption, which in our measurements was approximately 7.6 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle, as the manufacturer promised.

Suspension modern cars LADA is strong point... Granta behaves well at high speeds, and at low speeds, its energy intensity is enough for quite comfortable driving.

Since its appearance at the end of 2011, Lada Granta has been an active participant in the struggle for leadership in class B. And if at first new model it was still inferior to Priora and Kalina, but last year it was the most popular in the segment. Foreign competitors are also far from it - Solaris, Logan, Rio, Polo. Moreover, with the advent of the body, Grant's liftback should become even more popular. What about reliability?

On May 14, in the city of Izhevsk, an official start was given to the production of a Lada Granta car in the back of a liftback (or, if someone likes it more, they can call it a hatchback). I don't think I will open America by saying that the model can be called long-awaited. Indeed, after the start of production of Grants, a lot of gasoline has flowed in the sedan, the head of AVTOVAZ has changed for the umpteenth time, and the model, contrary to the initial "low-cost" concept, acquired luxury trim levels, including those equipped with automatic transmissions. According to Bo Andersson, the new director of the car plant, Grant-liftback will be assembled only here, at the Izhevsk site. For this purpose, serious investments were poured into the plant, production was thoroughly modernized.

Let's summarize. Was Grant Sport more interesting than Grants? Without any doubt. Was it more harmonious? No and no again. Shapovalov and Co. have violated the grant balance, the delicate balance of all consumer properties of the car. Acoustic comfort "floated away", the shaking in the rear seats became on the verge of decency, on low revs the car "does not go" ... And now the question for filling: did the creators of Grants Sport hit the goal determined by them? Sure!

To be honest, the last time I sat behind the wheel of a domestic car ... uh ... I don't even remember when. Therefore, with great curiosity, I set off with my family for a test drive of the updated Lada-Grants in Togliatti.

We tested two cars - a liftback with a four-stage automatic transmission(1.6 l. 98 hp) and a sedan with a mechanical (1.6 l, 87 hp).

On the "face" of the new "Grants", which went on sale on September 1 this year, flaunts the same chrome-plated boomerang or the letter X, like the "Vesta". Therefore, apparently, they confuse it with it. Almost nothing remained of the design of the abolished Kalina, on the basis of which the Grant was made. No joke, 150 new parts! Head optics, bumpers, grille, door shape, body contours - everything else. The hood has lengthened a little, the trunk lid has changed. Washer nozzles - "fan-shaped", spraying liquid not pointwise, but over the entire surface of the glass - are now located under the windshield. The rear number is no longer located on the bumper, but on the trunk lid. The bumpers themselves are in body color. Large mirrors with turn signals look like a foreign car. There is no key holder on the trunk. Instead, an electromechanical button. But the lid still has to be accompanied by hands.

What's inside? Not to say that the interior looks very rich. Budgetary, of course, but not flawed either. The chairs have become more comfortable. The steering wheel is adjustable only for the angle of inclination, that is, up / down. At the same time, the steering wheel has an electric amplifier. So, if you want, you can even drive with one little finger. There was also an adjustment driver's seat in height. Backlight instrument cluster pleasant - neutral white.

The Khryashchevites showed the way to the castle with pleasure. We are glad that they have their own attraction in the village. And they also hope to receive income from tourists. "Grant", of course, will not surprise the local Khryashchevites. They have seen, they say, more than once. And at first they even confused it with Vesta. Painfully similar.

The castle is not an architectural monument (in Ancient Russia it was not built like that), although it looks like real antiquity, even though it is made of real stone (slate). Let it be a remake (construction began in 2006), but, on the other hand, not a copy of a specific European castle, but an original architectural fantasy on the theme of European Gothic and Romanticism, which has absorbed all the most beautiful and interesting elements of European architecture of the Middle Ages, Renaissance and the Victorian era. Why, in fact, is the castle named after Garibaldi? Oleg Kuzichkin dedicated it to his father Garibaldi Kuzichkin, who is not even the most distant relative of the hero of Italy Giuseppe Garibaldi... They just call him that Garibaldi Arkadievich. Lucky with the name, one might say.

Alas, they are not allowed inside the castle; construction work is still underway. The guard even threatened to set fire to the brand new Granta if we didn't clean up voluntarily. I had to listen. The guards of the Khryashchevsky castle are very fierce people, as it turned out. But outside you can admire the architectural beauty as much as you like. They don't take money for this.

Not a bad agility

The road leading to the castle, although not very picturesque, like the Khryashchev landmark - all the "six hundred" summer cottages and farmland - but smooth, without unpleasant surprises in the form of holes, cracks and potholes. She allowed the chassis to be tested. The current "Grants" has an energy-intensive suspension, one might say, omnivorous, with gas-filled shock absorbers. The ground clearance is high, so we drove along a dirt road without fear of getting bogged down in holes.

The new Granta is now equipped with a superb Japanese Jatco four-speed automatic. This unit has long been put on the twin "Grants" - a sedan Datsun on-Do and has earned recognition as a reliable and adequate unit. The transmission is well matched to the 98 hp engine and even highlights its advantages at speeds up to 80 km / h. The cost of such a box is about 30,000 rubles. True, at high speeds, the machine already lacks 5 and 6 steps. Due to the increased revs, fuel consumption is increasing, although the dynamics remain.

Outside the city, they allowed themselves to accelerate to 110 km / h. The car behaved very steadily and even demonstrated agility unusual for cars with small engine displacement when overtaking.

On the dashboard you can see online speed, rpm, current time and mileage. Additionally, using a button on the right steering column switch, data on the temperature of the engine or the weather overboard are displayed on the screen.

A car with mechanics is more mobile. Behaves better when starting and overtaking. Switches without delay, easy. We realized this the next day when we tested the second car.

The "Grant" now has good soundproofing, which is facilitated by the new fenders in wheel arches made of fleecy soft material. Kia rio makes about the same noise, but at the same time it is 2 times more expensive.

In general, it's time to take stock. There are so many jokes about the domestic auto industry that at first I wanted to ride a Lada and laugh with the people. In practice, however, it turned out that cars from Togliatti have stepped far forward. "Grant" is quite a modern and comfortable domestic car. And if we compare with foreign "classmates", then she is not much inferior to them. So all the bearded jokes about "Zhiguli" seem to be archaic. Only the prices remained ridiculous.

Judge for yourself: the price tag for a new LADA Granta starts at 420,000 rubles (in the Standard configuration on a 5-speed mechanics with an engine of 87 "horses"), with a more powerful engine (106 hp on a 5-speed "robot" in configuration Optima) the car will cost about 570 thousand rubles.
