DIY glass tinting. Tinting car glass - step by step instructions. Review of price proposals for tinting

the main / Machine Reviews

DIY glass for your own vehicle- it is necessary and obligatory. In this case, the reasons may be different.

Someone wants to take care of their health, and someone wants to improve appearance car. We invite you to find out why car enthusiasts want to tint car windows.

Most common reasons

According to a well-known Russian Internet portal specializing in automotive topics, most often car owners want to get the following from tinting:

  1. Thanks to toning, you can reduce the heating of the passenger compartment by 60%, even in hot summer!
  2. Thanks to tinted car windows, up to 99% of UV rays, which can have harmful effects, can be blocked. As a result, you can protect yourself from skin cancer.
  3. In the event of a side collision of two vehicles, the tint helps to keep the glass, which is broken into small pieces. As a result, the driver can protect himself from cuts.
  4. Thanks to tinting, you can fight reflections from snow, sunlight, headlights of oncoming traffic.
  5. Tinting is a good protection for personal space. Nobody can see the salon!
  6. Tinting allows, as well as plastic parts that could deteriorate under the influence of direct sunlight.

The effect can be achieved thanks to a special film that can be glued to car glass. For making this special material it is customary to use a transparent polyester film on which paint can be applied, as well as a metal compound with special properties.

The main misconception is that the tint film is dark in color, therefore. First of all, you have the option of choosing a low-shade film. In addition, the film can transmit visible light, although all reflections will be reflected.

The film must be attached with inside glass, since in this case it will be protected from any damage.

Do you want to install a tint? In this case, you must find out where the film can be installed and where it cannot. In the Russian Federation, glass tinting in accordance with GOST provides that it is necessary to tint the front car windows only using a film with a transmission coefficient that will be below 85%.

How to tint yourself

First you need, because it should be smooth, without chips and any dusting. If cellular or radio antennas are glued to the car glass, they must either be bypassed or removed.

The most difficult stage is tinting the rear window of the car. This process can be obstructed by brake lights as well as blowing. If you understand that there will be a lot of work, you can refuse tinting, or turn to professionals.

In order to properly apply the tinted film, specialists can carefully pull out car glass and then work on a special work table, which can be covered with glass or smooth linoleum. If you do not want to do this, you can attach papyrus paper to the car glass in order to outline all the contours. Then you need to cut out a piece, which should have clear boundaries. The cut out template should be carefully transferred to the tint film. As a result, you will be able to cut the film to the shape of your car glass. Now you need to glue it!

What do you need for tinted glass? Without a doubt, you must be patient and careful, what do you also need?

  1. Tinting film. One roll of standard sizes can be enough for four car side windows.
  2. Rubber spatula. It is important to note that there is a small plastic scraper included with the tint film. It can also be used, but in this case there will be micro-scratches on the glass.
  3. Stationery knife. It should be borne in mind that a special knife is included with the tint film, but it can quickly become dull and begin to tear the film.
  4. Detergent for washing car windows, clean warm water, which must be taken from the tap.
  5. Dry rag. It is very important that the cloth is lint-free. In this case, you can be sure that there are no micro-scratches after work.
  6. Spray.

It is advisable that two people carry out the tinting of car windows, since it will be difficult for one to complete the entire amount of work. The entire procedure must be carried out in a dust-free environment. If the glass is to be tinted outdoors, the weather should be calm.

It is important to note that you can use a hair dryer (construction, assembly or household) in order to dry tinted car windows in a short period of time. Thanks to the hair dryer, it will be possible to significantly reduce the duration of the process!

Glass tinting technology

First you need to remove the seals. Be sure to wash all car windows that you will be applying the tint film to. When washing the glass, use a special detergent. Try to rinse the corners thoroughly.

Smooth the film until the transparent part falls off. Then remove the transparent film that has dried. Now you can trim off all the edges that protrude. Be sure to use a sharp knife along the edge of the car glass, but do it slowly.

If you have a hairdryer, you can dry the entire car glass. If you don't have a hair dryer, close the door, and then start working on the next glass.

It is advisable that no seals be inserted into car doors or windows that have been tinted to be opened within 2 days.

Another method of tinting glasses with your own hands

The glasses can be tinted in a different way. You can prepare a twenty percent solution of rosin in a special caustic soda. Rosin must be dissolved until the color of the liquid turns dark yellow. Then filter the prepared product. Add a small amount of ferric chloride or ferrous sulfate solution. There should be a precipitate of iron resinate, which will be red. Separate the sediment, rinse and dry well. It can be dissolved in gasoline.

You must apply the prepared solution to the car glass using a spray bottle. It is very important that the glass is clean, degrease it in a soap and soda solution.

Be sure to rinse the glass and wait for it to dry. Then it must be placed in an oven for five to ten minutes, but the temperature must reach six hundred degrees. A high strength brown film will be formed on the car glass. If you wish, you can make the film in a different color if you use a different chloride. By adjusting the concentration of rosin, as well as metal salt, you can change the saturation.

But the driver should not get carried away with tinted glass. The application of a tint film on glass is necessary, taking into account the current GOSTs. Therefore, the permissible glass tint provides that the windshield of the car must transmit at least 75% of the light, and the rest of the glass must be at least 70%.

It should also be remembered that after toning, there should be no distortion of the driver's color perception. For the stripes located on the top of the windshield, the light transmission capacity is not standardized by law.

The question of how to tint the glass of a car on your own comes very often - especially, in, and we are not always talking about a dimming film, but also about an athermal film, which often passes "GOSTs". The good news is that the theoretical part of tinting car windows itself is very simple and consists of several steps. But in practice, not everyone is able to tint the glass on their own the first time, and if the side windows, due to their size, are easier to tint, then the front windshield and rear windows are much more difficult to tint, because they are wide in area and curved.

By the way, you can buy ready-made tinted glass from your car dealer or anywhere from unofficial representatives. But it should be borne in mind that this is quite expensive, and includes the work of replacing tinted glass. Moreover, if you change your mind and want to return completely transparent windows to the car, you will have to repeat the entire replacement procedure. It is much easier to tint existing windows. The ability to tint car windows is available in specialized stores in two forms - in the form of a transparent darkened film that is glued to the glass inside the window, or in the form of a spray in an aerosol can.

Film (A) and spray (B) for window tinting

Both tinting methods have pros and cons. Spray tinting is more expensive, but it is faster to apply, and in general, the spray gives best result on windows that are curved. The disadvantage of spray, however, is that if you have not tinted the car in this way before, then the end result will be uneven tinted glass with lighter and darker areas, because you will not be able to apply the spray perfectly evenly on the glass. Spray shades are available in various colors: gray, green, blue, gold and even a mirror effect.

Film tinting is much easier for beginners to stick on in their first experience of toning a car, but in general there are more steps for pasting, and you will also have to spend more time on it. In addition, in the case of film tinting, there are more opportunities for subsequent defects, rejects or the consequences of incorrectly performed work (peeling off the film, its cloudiness, fading, the appearance of bubbles, simply a change in plasticity, etc.). But then it is much easier to remove the film tinting than applied with a spray.

Legal restrictions

Always remember that in our country there are large legal restrictions on the tinting of all windows, both front and rear, in cars.

First and foremost, mirror tinting is prohibited on any glass (front or rear).

Secondly, the windshield and front side windows must provide general light transmittance of 70% of light (traffic rules, clause 7.3 "Basic provisions for the admission of vehicles" + Technical Regulations of the Customs Union, clause 4.3). The word "general" is specially emphasized - the fact is that if you buy a tint film with a darkening of 30% or even 20%, then, most likely, your glass as a result will still not pass the test with a special device that is measured by traffic police inspectors - with In the factory, almost all glass already has a light transmittance significantly less than 100% - often from 85 to 95%. The same applies to the athermal film - we have a special article on why the athermal film does not pass the light transmission test.

Third, on the windshield passenger cars from above it is allowed to glue a strip of tinting with any light transmission. The main limitation here is that the tint strip should be less than 14 cm wide.

Fourthly, the rear windows can also be tinted with any light transmittance, but here there is a condition - the presence of external side rear-view mirrors on both sides of the car.

How to tint car windows with film - step by step instructions

First of all, we note that in order to obtain good result tinting with film, you should work in a warm, dry place away from direct sunlight. The room should be free of dust and the possibility of settling any even the smallest particles on the film. Therefore, even in a garage with a concrete floor, you should wet it (the floor) with water so that dust does not rise. Clothes with hands should also be clean.

What you need:

  • Directly the film itself, purchased in advance in the store in the required quantity.
  • Rubber spatula.
  • Spray bottle or plastic bottle with a volume of at least a liter with a spray bottle.
  • Stationery knife or blade.
  • Air dryer (preferably construction).
  • Something foaming from household chemicals (shampoo, liquid soap).
  • Roll of duct tape.
  • Rags (you need to pick up rags that in no case leave behind a pile and thread).
  • Transparent, high-quality, non-yellowing nail polish over time.

So, how to tint the windows of the car yourself, let's start the steps!

1. Ideally, you will have to dismantle the car windows. But it is not always necessary to do this - remove the seals (you may have to remove the door trim for this) from the glass.

The tinted film is applied to the inner side of the window.

2. Clean the glasses themselves from any dirt and dust.

Wet the window with a solution of detergent and water in a spray bottle. Use a dry cloth (ideally chamois leather) to wipe off excess water and dry the glass completely.

3. Measure 7 times, cut 1 time! Measure each window, then lay out the tint film and cut the correct pieces to the shape of each window. Cut off the film with a margin - at least 2-3 centimeters wider than the window, and 3-4 cm below the window. Also keep in mind that only one side of the film sticks to the glass, so make sure you cut the correct shapes for each side of the windows.

You may also find it easier to cut the film by simply placing it on the glass - in this case, also do not confuse the sides of the film.

4. Thoroughly and abundantly moisten the adhesive side of the film and the window itself with the same solution with which you washed the glass, and with a spray bottle.

5. Now the most crucial moment is to glue the film to the glass. Remove the protective backing from the cut to size piece of film, but not completely, but from the upper half of the piece covering the adhesive side of the tint film. Open the window slightly (lowering the glass by 3-4 cm). Glue the film on the glass with the adhesive side to the glass, starting from the top (the bottom of the film is still with a protective coating) - grab the edges of the film, size it against the glass and stick it on. Then, going down, remove the protective coating and glue the lower part of the film - you should have a little more margin at the bottom than at the top. Make sure the film covers the entire window area.

Then, with a spatula, begin to expel the previously applied solution from the space between the glass and the film so that it does not remain there at all, and no blisters are visible. Be extremely careful - if the spatula is too rough and stiff, you can use a wad of dry cloth instead.

Then dry the glass completely with a hair dryer.

5. Trim the excess film at the edges by gently pulling at the edges. Cut the film so that it remains slightly smaller to the edge of the glass - about 0.5 mm around the edges. Use a ruler on the straight edges of the glass to make the cut straight.

6. Cover the edges with varnish. Thoroughly, but in a thin layer, apply nail polish along the edges of the film to seal the edge of the film. Let the varnish dry completely before opening (closing) the window. Replace the seals and do not open the windows for at least 24 hours so that the tinting is fully adhered.

How to tint car windows with spray?

As we noted above, in theory, it is much easier to tint the windows of the car yourself with a spray, but only in theory.

Start by cleaning and washing all glass panes, in which case there should also be no dirt, grease or dust. In addition, toning must be carried out in a draft-free room.

Protect areas of bodywork, upholstery and plastic near windows from spray splashes by covering them with a large newspaper and duct tape. Fall asleep in dashboard and tools too.

Pull the window down slightly so that you can cover the top edge of the glass. Then, when the top edge is dry, lift the window back up to cover the bottom edge of the glass.

Shake the tinting spray can thoroughly so that the color is uniform.

Bring the can to the glass at a distance of about 15 cm (check the instructions for the spray) and, first starting to move it, press the button so that the aerosol starts to be applied to the glass. Be extremely careful and precise - the paint should apply evenly - without thickening areas and, conversely, gaps.

Do not use the window regulators until the spray has completely dried, and at this time it is advisable not to remove the newspaper and tape from the glass.

Do not forget that even such work as tinting a car on your own should be carried out with the utmost diligence so as not to miss any trifles.

If the car glass is damaged, then it cannot be tinted. Minor scratches are an exception. If we are talking about significant damage (cobwebs, round holes, etc.), then first you need to repair or completely replace the glass. It should also be noted that it is better to carry out work on car tinting with an assistant. This will save you a lot of time and effort.

Any window tinting always starts with side windows, because they are the easiest to dismantle.

Materials and tools for car tinting:

  • Detergent.
  • Sharp blade or utility knife.
  • Rubber spatula.
  • Tinting film for glass.
  • Spray bottle.
  • Warm water.
  • Lint-free napkin.

All of the above materials with tools must be prepared before starting the tinting work on your car.

Step-by-step work:

Stage 1

Tinting of glasses must be started after they have been washed. Thoroughly rinse the glass from dust and dirt, and on both sides. Make a soapy solution, apply it to the glass surface, and then wipe dry with a lint-free cloth. Use a utility knife or a sharp blade to check if there is any lint left on the glass.

Washing glasses with soapy water

Stage 2

We are preparing a special solution, necessary for applying and further fixing the tint film on the glass. Dilute shampoo or some kind of detergent in warm water. Beat until foam appears. The foam will allow the film to slide over the glass, which will make it possible to make the final fit. For convenience, the prepared solution can be poured into a spray bottle. That's all the preparation for glass tinting. Next, you will need to work closely with the tint film.

Preparing a soap solution

Stage 3

Car glass measurement

Exactly measure the length and width of the windows that are going to be tinted, and only after that, strictly according to the obtained parameters, cut out the tint film.

The pattern can also be obtained in another way without measuring the parameters of the glass. A film is applied to the glass with outside doors and smoothes well, and then it is simply cut along the contour.

Film pattern on car glass

An important point! The sides and bottoms should be cut first. There is no need to rush in this work. Tinting should be carried out without any tiny gaps. The top side of the film should be cut after it has been moved down 5-7 cm. The main thing here is high accuracy and accuracy.

Stage 4

When the film is completely cut to size, the glass is only half tinted. Now is the time to apply it to the glass. By the way, you can use scotch tape to effectively separate the film into two parts. This is done very simply: adhesive tape is glued to the film on both sides at different levels, and then you need to pull it in different directions. Next, we put a film on the soapy glass and move it as needed so that it ultimately fits perfectly.

The process of separating the film from the substrate

Stage 5

Now it is very important to gently smooth out the film with a rubber spatula and expel air bubbles and soapy water from under it. Further, in parts, the protective layer of the film should be removed. It is necessary so that you can stick well and smooth the film.

Smoothing the film with a squeegee

Stage 6

After tinting the side windows, proceed to tint the rear window. That is why they first undergo training on the side windows. The fact is that all rear windows have a curved shape, and this significantly complicates the whole process of work. Nevertheless, in general, the entire rear window tinting will not differ much from the side window tinting.

Car Rear Window Film Application Process

Important! The film must be glued strictly from top to bottom.

Carefully separate from the glass, first only the third part. Then this surface must be well lubricated with soapy water. Then fix the film on the glass and you will need to separate another third of the tinting from the protective layer.

Smoothing the rear window should be done with extreme care so that no air or soap solution is left anywhere. The glass will dry for 3 days (during this period it is not recommended to touch it with your hands).

Tinting with an industrial hair dryer:

It is worth noting that tinting the glass on your own, even with a partner, can cause some difficulties on the windshield and rear window, since they have a blown shape. An industrial hairdryer will help you out here.

It is necessary to carefully stretch the film over the entire area on the moistened concave glass without removing the protective layer of the tint film. When gluing the film, use an industrial hairdryer to remove any excess soap solution and air bubbles. This happens due to the heating of problem areas of the film.

When buying a car, many motorists try to cover its glass with a tint film. In a tinted car, passengers feel more comfortable because the tinted glass hides them from the eyes of passers-by and protects them from the effects of sunlight in hot summer weather.

Having made the decision to tint the car, you can simply take it to a specialist. But, nevertheless, you can do it with your own hands, which will be discussed in this article.

After you have decided to equip your iron friend with tinting, you should choose the tinting film itself, which differs both in quality and price, and in the shade of the film itself. The choice is yours.

But the degree of dimming is also of no small importance, because the darker the film, the more the quality of view for the driver decreases, which affects driving safety. In addition, in recent years, in many countries, laws have been tightened in relation to the degree of blackout. car glass... On average, the windshield and side windows of a car should transmit at least 70% of the daylight.

Tint film is made from polystyrene of various shades, which determine the color of the film itself, and in end result and the color of the glass of your car. In this case, the outer layer of the film is usually covered with a special metal compound that protects the film itself and glass from mechanical damage. It is clear that the more expensive the film, the better the composition of the protective layer will be and the longer the tinting itself will serve you.

Adhesive tint film

The very procedure of pasting glass with tint film does not require any special knowledge and skills, but nevertheless, accuracy is needed in this matter. The film should always be glued from the inside of the glass, that is, from the side of the car interior. First of all, you need to thoroughly wash the glasses themselves so that they do not have the slightest traces of greasy stains and streaks. This is best done with a window cleaner. At the same time, the room where the tint film will be pasted should be not dusty and well lit. If you work outside, the weather should be warm and calm.

The tint film itself is glued to the glass with a soap solution, which is applied to the glass with a spray bottle (a spray bottle that is sprayed with home flowers is also suitable).

To correctly cut the film to the desired size, attach tissue paper or ordinary film to the glass and trace the outline, then cut the paper and you will have blanks, along which you can then evenly cut the tint film. The workpiece must be made with a margin of 5-10 mm, which can then be removed with a knife. Of course, it is more convenient to paste over the glass if it is removed from the car. But the removal of glass is a rather time-consuming task, so usually the glass is tinted directly on the car.

Spray the glass with a spray bottle and apply the film with the dark side to the glass, gently smoothing it from center to edge, and make sure that no air bubbles form under the film.

Smooth the film well with a rubber spatula or something similar. Special attention give the edges of the film, they should adhere well to the glass and not protrude, so that later when lowering and raising the side windows, the film does not wrap. Then let the film dry. If you have a hair dryer, you can speed up the drying process of the film. A blow dryer can help in places where the glass has a lot of bending. The film is heated, after which it better takes the shape of a curved glass.

As you can see, tinting the windows of a car is not such a complicated procedure, and by doing the tinting of your car with your own hands, you will save a tidy sum.

Our portal warns its readers that in some countries car tinting is prohibited. Therefore, before deciding to tint a car, you should familiarize yourself with the current legislation in your country. You must be aware that traffic violation sooner or later will entail penalties and troubles.

Tinting is an affordable tuning tool that visibly transforms your car. And in our "latitudes" the appearance of your favorite car is of great importance. There are many offers on the market for such a popular service - gluing of tint film. But the more options there are, the more difficult it is to find a contractor who can guarantee quality. Therefore, it is quite logical to do everything thoroughly and with your own hands. And the nuances of how to tint a car yourself and glue the film correctly, we will tell below.

Law and punishment for installing inappropriate toning

In order not to have to remove only the pasted tinting at the first traffic police post, you should take into account the permissible norms. According to the law, or rather GOST 5727–88, windshield should transmit at least 75% of the light, and the front side ones - 70%. On the front, a dark stripe is allowed, but no more than 14 cm from the upper edge. There are no restrictions on the rear windows. The only thing is that dull tinting (less than 5%) obliges the installation of rear-view mirrors on both sides (that is, it is possible on all modern cars).

The choice of the percentage of transmission of tinted light depends on your goals and current regulations

The punishment for non-compliance with these norms is not very large - 500 rubles. Since the spring of 2015, “frightening” information about the new law has been circulating on the Internet, which provides for a threefold increase in the amount of the fine (if repeated, 5000 rubles). At the beginning of autumn 2016, the law had not yet been adopted.

Thanks to the installers, the service of installing reusable tinting has become quite popular. Like, if you are caught with a removable film, then nothing will happen. But the reality shows the opposite. In 95% of cases, the court takes the side of the traffic police, arguing that at the time the vehicle stopped, the offense had already taken place, therefore, you may well be fined.

Choosing the best film for self-pasting car glass

For an optimal choice, there are many parameters to consider. The first is the type of film. They are painted and metallized (there are others, but inexperienced gluers should not mess with them). The second option is preferable, since it is more durable and protects well from sunlight, but the price is twice as high. It makes sense for "training" to take a high-quality dyed film. Its resource will last for 2-3 years, after which (from the top of the experience gained) you will decide which one to glue the second time.

You should not take the cheapest options (most often Chinese) to learn how to tint. During installation, you will encounter additional difficulties: creases, poor adhesive and rapid wear. With such materials and without experience, it is unlikely that it will be possible to bring the pasting process to the end.

SunControl pleases with an abundance of tint colors

  • SolarGard uses expensive metals (copper, aluminum, titanium) in the production of its films. This gives an excellent variety of shades not available from other manufacturers (whites, blues, bright greens, and many others).

SolarGard factories are located in the USA

Preparation and tools to tint the car

We figured out the laws, chose the film - now you can start working. Immediately you need to choose a suitable place for the upcoming manipulations. The street is not very suitable for this. Dust, insects, wind and direct sunlight are the main list of unacceptable conditions. A spacious garage or box is ideal.

So that the execution process does not stop "at the most interesting place", prepare all the tools and materials in advance. You will need:

  1. The very tint film in the required amount. Decide how many glasses you will tint and calculate the area. Consider a 10-20% margin for fit.
  2. Water spray in any form. Needed for spraying soap solution.
  3. Liquid soap or Fairy, clear water.
  4. Something sharp and cutting: a regular blade, a stationery knife, a scalpel.
  5. Lint-free napkins.
  6. Forcing is a special spatula with which you will remove the solution from under the film. Must be firm, but free from sharp edges. Usually they are plastic and some manufacturers put them together with a film. If you are unlucky, then look for them in construction or automotive stores, and they must also be found in shops for outdoor advertising masters.
  7. Special scraper for cleaning windows (optional, greatly facilitates the cleaning process).
  8. Electric building hair dryer with temperature controller (we need 550 degrees Celsius).

How to tint the side windows of a car: lessons from the pros

  1. It is better to start with them. The small size and absence of bends will allow you to get comfortable with the technology at home with a minimum of waste and nerves. We start work by preparing a soap solution. For tinting all car windows (if not a bus, of course) you will need 2.5–5 liters of liquid, depending on the efficiency of your spray bottle. The recipe is simple: for 1 liter of water add 5-10 drops of liquid soap or detergent like "Fairy". The latter option is preferable, since it cleans the glass surface well from grease.
  2. Let's move on to the sewing process. We need to prepare templates-blanks of the film according to the shape of each side glass... Rather, the front and back, on the one hand. The other side can be simply copied from the finished layout. We use a freshly prepared solution. Apply it on the outside of the glass.

Do not take too large a spray bottle, it is hard to work with

  3. Depending on the size of the roll and the configuration of the window, decide how to cut optimally - along or across. Now unfold and attach the roll to the glass with a margin. Don't try to make the perfect pattern right away.
Measure the pattern with a margin

Leave a few extra centimeters around the edges. The film will stick to the wet surface and this will greatly simplify the procedure.

The film fits snugly on the base

  4. Carefully cut straight pieces straight away. Then lower the film a few centimeters down and open the window slightly. This will make it much more convenient to cut the curved part of the glass. If there is uncut film on the corners, remove it.
  5. Be careful and careful during the cutting process. It is easy to damage the paint or plastic parts of the car with a sharp tool. When the footage of the toning film is end-to-end, then you can make a template from a regular film, and make the final version in conditions convenient for you (for example, on a table, where everything is in greater order).
  6. If your car has straight glass, then you are in luck and you can skip the next step (until you reach the rear window). On foreign cars side windows often curved. In this case, you need to give the film the desired shape. Work algorithm:
  7. Now cleaning. Apply the solution to the inside of the window and clean it with a special scraper (from the list of materials).
During cleaning, inspect the entire surface, you need it to be as clean as possible

If there are any small particles that will not wash off, remove them with a regular blade. Just don't scratch dry.

Small particles are easier to drive out "wet"

  8. It was the turn of the gluing itself. Peel off the backing of the foil to gain access to the adhesive backing. Just don't delete completely, limit yourself to half, starting at the top. Then moisten the glue portion abundantly with soapy water. This procedure is best done with a partner (one holds, the other wets). If you are working alone, then apply the film to the outside of the window.
  9. Open the window a little and try to align the film along the upper edge, already from the inside, and with glue to the glass. Do not feel sorry for the soapy solution, it neutralizes the effect of the glue and gives you time to adjust. Level from the center to the sides. Use a scraper or forcing to remove air and water between the film and the glass. One hundred percent adherence of the tinting to the surface is required.
  10. Moving on to the second half. Lift (close) the glass and moisten the bottom with plenty of soapy water.
    Wet glass sparingly

Remove the protective film completely, remembering that the adhesive part also needs to be wetted.

The adhesive layer also requires moisture

  11. Now comes the tricky part. It is necessary to thread the film into the gap between the glass, the door card and the seal. By the way, before starting work, check that your plastic spatula is able to penetrate 1–2 cm into this gap in thickness.
Expel bubbles and air while the film is wet

Without such a tool, it will not be possible to successfully finish the tinting. The main task is the same - to expel all the air and water. How to roll a car: foreign experience (video in English)

How to properly glue the film on the back

According to the principle of operation, the pasting of the rear window does not differ from the side curved one. But larger size and the inaccessibility significantly complicates the process (if the station wagon, of course, is lighter).

    1. Let's briefly fix the procedure in memory. Without a "magic" solution, nowhere. Therefore, we start by spraying it onto clean glass.
The technology is similar to pasting the front windows

We apply a roll of film to the glass and cut it off with a margin of 2–3 cm. Then we level the tint clearly across the window and cut off the excess. Smooth out from the center and remove the wrinkles with a hair dryer and forcing.

For convex rear windows warming up with a hairdryer required

    2. We achieve a perfectly clean inner surface of the glass and moisten it abundantly with soapy water.

      Cleanliness is essential to success

    3. Let's move on to the last step. It is highly recommended to find a partner at this stage. A large piece of film is difficult to handle alone. Remember to constantly spray soapy liquid on the adhesive and on the glass. It remains to get rid of air or water bubbles. The film must also adhere evenly.

Work on mistakes: bubbles, creases, stripes and dots

It is not always possible to do everything perfectly the first time. Even professionals are not immune from mistakes. Some can be fixed, but not all. The main stumbling blocks:

    1. Air bubbles. It is better to deal with them at the initial stage, until the film is dry. After completing the work, be sure to slowly inspect all the windows. If you find bubbles, then distill them out. When the film "grasps", you will have to first soften it with a hair dryer or a garment steamer (you can use an iron with a steam generator).
    2. By the way about the hairdryer. Without it, you will only be able to tint a car with straight glass. It will not work to straighten the folds without heating (550 degrees).
    3. Kinks should be avoided at any stage. Why? After them, a noticeable strip remains. Chinese films especially "sin" with such shortcomings, it is very easy for a beginner to spoil the material.
    4. If you notice a curve in the first few hours, you can still save the material. The excess can be simply cut off. And the shortage can be compensated by moving the film, perhaps there is a margin on the back side. Warm up and separate the tinting from the window. Spray the solution again and glue as needed.
    5. Dirt getting under the film is not allowed. Pay close attention to this during the washing phase.
    6. For the glue to dry completely, it takes at least a day. It is better to leave the car in the garage for this time. But if it is necessary to travel, then do not open the windows and do not heat the interior with a stove or air conditioner.
    7. For pasting all side windows, 2 sq. m of film. Together with the rear, it is already 3 meters.

Sticking tint film is a rather complicated process, but everyone can do it. The key to success is careful preparation and selection of the right material. Also, eliminate rush while working. Even a small speck can then callou the eyes, and the pleasure of the work done will be incomplete.
