Fully synthetic 2-stroke engine oil, that is, 100% consisting of olefins and other elements, appeared for two main reasons: due to the requirements of environmentalists and the birth of powerful and highly loaded engines, in particular, with direct fuel injection systems. For powerful modern ones, oil is required, which, firstly, has good fluidity, which is important for successful functioning in automix systems, and secondly, it is able to lubricate the engine elements well and at the same time burn out quickly and as completely as possible, and, finally, third, to decompose quickly in the open air and be as less harmful to microorganisms as possible. The synthetic base of the oil allows you to satisfy the listed requirements, although not completely, but more successfully than the mineral base, which has only a part of the mineral base - the so-called "semi-synthetics". In short, synthetic oil is more stable and comfortable.

Today, all oil manufacturers are slowly moving into synthetics, at least those who make oils for engine manufacturers. Oil is becoming more expensive, while technologies for producing olefins and analogs, if not cheaper, remain at the same level. However, in retail so far "synthetics" are more expensive than "mineral water".

"Synthetics", which has, as already mentioned, more fluidity than mineral water, which is important for the "point" oil supply system, as well as improved lubricating properties, creates a "stable" film on the engine elements, preventing dry friction even in critical cases. The higher the load on the motor, the greater the likelihood of critical moments, in our case, oil starvation.

It is believed that "synthetics" does not work well in motors with sleeve bearings. However, although special studies on this topic have not been carried out (or there is no available information about them), the practical experience of using synthetic oil suggests that it is friends with plain bearings no worse than mineral water, mainly due to its penetrating properties and the ability to create a tear-resistant film.

So, after all, is it possible to use synthetic oil in "simple two-strokes"? In principle, yes, the motor will not get any worse, and sometimes, especially at the moment of starting and at maximum speed, it may be even better. There will also be less deposits in the combustion chamber. At the same time, a good mineral oil with a low retail price will allow the clock set by the manufacturer to be spent on the motor, that is, the resource. Therefore, here everyone must decide for himself.

What is the bottom line? Read the instructions and, if the manufacturer recommends using mineral oil, then the use of synthetic oil is not prohibited, however, due to high cost and is not “encouraged”. If the use of a specific synthetic oil is recommended, then the mineral oil can no longer be used, even the one corresponding to TC-W3 - in many respects it will not suit the lubrication system of a particular motor.

And the last thing: on long trips on motorboats, it makes sense to take a jar of synthetic oil with you, which can be mixed with all types of oils for two-stroke engines. It is convenient and can help in difficult times, if not for you, then for others who are in a difficult situation.
