Skoda Octavia III (A7) - a new twist. Is the Skoda Octavia A7 so reliable? Skoda octavia a7 reliability problems

the main / Miscellaneous

Skoda Octavia the third generation debuted at the end of 2012. It is built on the modular MQB platform - the one that underlies the VW Golf VII and many other models. German concern VW Group.

Compared to the second generation, the third Octavia has grown significantly. For example, the wheelbase has increased by 10.8 cm. The dimensions call into question the positioning as a compact car. This model turned out to be somewhere between the C and D classes. Despite the increase in size, the weight has decreased by almost 100 kg.

Octavia, as before, was offered in two body types: liftback and station wagon. The trunk of both versions is simply huge: 590-1580 and 610-1740 liters, respectively.

Fortunately, the manufacturer did not skimp on amplifiers in critical locations. Skoda Octavia A7 earned 5 stars in crash tests. The predecessor was able to get only four stars.

In early 2017, a restyled version with twin headlights was introduced.

Modern equipment

Basic modifications of the Octavia A7 were completed mechanical box transmission, air conditioning, electric and heated exterior mirrors, front electric windows, 2 airbags, ABS and central locking.

For an additional fee, it was possible to significantly expand the level of equipment. For example, purchase a two-piece panoramic sunroof, active cruise control, emergency braking system, lane assist, keyless entry and more. The predecessor could not offer so much modern equipment.

The Czech car is appreciated for its many useful solutions in the cabin (Simply Clever): a cooled, temperature-controlled glove box, a vest under the driver's seat, openings in the front doors that can hold 1.5 liter bottles, an umbrella in a station wagon or the famous green glass scraper under the lid filling flap.

The dimensions of the cabin delight people in the first and second rows. Passengers with long legs on the back seat won't have to complain about discomfort on long journeys.

Engines

One of the popular gasoline engines is the 1.4 TSI. The third Octavia uses its revised version EA211. Instead of a timing chain, a timing belt is installed here. The engine has not yet created major problems, and the oil consumption is within reasonable limits. Nothing is heard about the accumulation of carbon deposits.

However, many owners have to deal with turbocharging malfunctions. The problem is in the turbine actuator that wedges. Until September 2014, it was integrated into the turbocharger, so the entire unit had to be replaced. After that, it became possible to change the actuator separately from the turbine.

Some owners point to the fact that the upgraded 1.4 TSI is much louder than the previous EA111. Perhaps it's all about simplified noise isolation.

The reliability of 1.2 TSI is also well estimated. True, its power is clearly not enough for such big car... The most powerful 1.8 and 2.0 TFSIs are the same EA888 with a timing chain drive. Fortunately, problems with the timing drive have not yet been encountered, and the issue of oil consumption is not as acute as before.

The new naturally aspirated 1.6 liter (now with a chain-type timing drive) sometimes, closer to 100,000 km, disappoints with the rather noisy operation of the gas pump or phase shifter.

Thermostat is a common affliction of machines with gasoline engines... Its malfunction can lead to underheating, and sometimes to overheating of the engine. He can refuse after 10-20 thousand km. After 50-100 thousand km, the pump can also fail.

The 1.6 TDI CR replaced the 1.9 TDI. It was not offered in Russia. In the basic version, the young motor has the same power and torque as old engine... But the 1.6 TDI consumes less fuel - about 5.5 l / 100 km. Even when fully loaded, it burns about 6.5 l / 100 km. A typical problem with a small diesel is premature failure of the water pump. Another common ailment is the failure of the charge air sensor.

No less good is the 2.0 TDI CR (150 or 184 hp). Its main vulnerability is the timing belt tensioner, which cannot withstand the 200,000 km allotted to it. It has to be changed closer to 150,000 km.

Transmission

The most expensive faults are associated with transmissions. For example, there is premature wear bearings in manual transmission. In this case, a characteristic noise appears.

The notorious DSG has not relieved the owners of their anxiety. Although we must admit - the percentage of faults has decreased. The worst opinions are collected by DSG7 (DQ200) with dry clutch. After 150-200 thousand km, repairs are almost impossible to avoid. However, there are also positive examples with trouble-free mileage of more than 350,000 km. Most often you have to change the clutch and release bearing, less often mechatronics. It is noteworthy that until 2014 the robot's warranty was 5 years, and after that it was reduced to 2 years.

The DSG6 (DQ250) with an oil bath clutch turned out to be much more durable. It is used only in combination with a 2-liter turbodiesel. DSG7 with wet clutch only for RS version with gasoline engine with a power of 245 hp.

The hydromechanical automatic went to the 1.6-liter aspirated. It does not cause any complaints yet.

Undercarriage

The universal platform made it possible not only to increase wheelbase but also use different kinds pendants. Depending on the engine version in the Octavia, a torsion beam or a lever system is installed at the rear. The multi-link scheme is used in the most powerful modifications of 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI (RS), as well as in the presence of an all-wheel drive system.

The suspension has a decent lifespan, but often pesters with knocks, especially at the rear in the beam versions. It is possible to get rid of the noise by replacing the standard shock absorbers with analogues. The knock in the front end, as a rule, occurs due to the banal wear of the struts and stabilizer bushings.

Typical problems and malfunctions

The first customers faced electrical failures. In most cases, it was possible to get rid of ailments by updating software... There were also problems with electric windows. After replacing the switch, the problem did not return.

The touch screen of the Balero head unit is often buggy - it stops responding to touch, especially in wet weather. Dealers change the screen, and in the meantime, the owners have found a simple solution - to use a screen protector.

In a car with xenon, the headlight washer sometimes refuses. Due to damage to the spring, the injector remains in the open position. The service completely changes the atomizer.

Another childhood illness is spontaneous lowering of the back. driver's seat with mechanical position adjustment.

Special versions

Skoda Octavia RS

Octavia RS III presented at the 2013 Goodwid Festival of Speed. Like its predecessor, it was equipped with two engines: a gasoline 2.0 TSI / 220 hp. and diesel 2.0 TDI / 184 hp The RS has big brakes, lowered suspension and sports seats.

In 2015, a more powerful version of the RS 230 was presented with a boosted 10 hp. 2.0 TSI and electronically controlled differential. She is capable of accelerating to 250 km / h. In 2017, another limited edition RS 245 with a capacity of 245 hp was presented.

Skoda Octavia Scout

The Scout version appeared in 2014 and was based on the Octavia Combi 4x4. It has an enlarged ground clearance(31 mm), special body strips and 17-inch wheel disks... The transmission uses Haldex coupling 5th generation. All Scouts, as well as all-wheel drive modifications, have a multi-link rear suspension.

Conclusion

The strengths of the Skoda Octavia are the huge interior and trunk, good equipment and the latest German Volkswagen technology. Today, gasoline engines are practically not a cause for concern, but the DSG robot still haunts the owners.

Owner reviews

Great design. Large spacious salon. Excellent sound insulation... Just huge and roomy trunk the correct shape. Good ground clearance with a PPD suspension (even in the base). Electronic systems help even go to the database. Good visibility. A salon without surplus, as they say, is simple and boring, but I just like it - there is no surplus and cheap Chinese. The plastic of the torpedo is soft.

A high-torque engine that has not eaten a single gram of oil at the moment (it is confirmed on the forums that the 1.8 TSI no longer eats oil). Economical, on the highway it easily fit into 6 liters, and in the city on average 9 liters. It is possible to disable auxiliary systems. Separate climate control. All kinds of pockets and boxes. Heated washer nozzles are very useful in winter.

The plastic on the doors is still hard, but it does not make noise and is pleasant to the eye, on the other hand, it is easier to wash it. Factory radio. Passenger seat the front is slightly higher, this is not usual.

Video review

Reliability, good handling, comfort, fuel consumption, reasonable prices for spare parts and service.

On the downside: is this what the Skoda designers (or engineers or marketers) thought when they placed the washer fluid filler neck and the poker attachment point to hold the hood in one place?

Further, the aerodynamics of the body in the area of \ u200b \ u200bthe mirrors: a five-minute drive on decent speed in rainy weather, that's all - nothing is visible in the mirrors, and on the glasses (in the area of the mirrors) there is a thick layer of dirt. The next moment is small fuel tank(about 45 liters). And finally - the rear beam.

Konstantin Goncharov, drives a Skoda Octavia 2.0d (143 hp) AT 2013

Economical and high-torque engine. Roomy trunk.

Lottery build. Doors close poorly. Radiator knocking when driving through irregularities. Poor insulation. Strong roll in corners and poor track stability. Frequent breakouts rear suspension... Bolero glitches in frost.

Review of Skoda Octavia A7 1.4 mechanics 2014 onwards

The suspension is moderately stiff, the back hurts constantly. With the equipment, everything is buzzing. Bixenon - theme, speakerphone - theme, heated all seats. Pumped up the sound. Arches and doors must be noisy, which I actually did.

For 6,500 km I refilled 400 grams of oil - the verdict: he eats little. The trunk is large - everything is clear here. The brakes are good, but God forbid you overheat. With DSG, everything is fine, only the sound when driving through irregularities is as if a bucket of bolts were attached to the car.

Sound. Established system frank g ... about. The speakers are made in China, apparently made from pressed poop of monkeys. I installed an active sub under the seat and it corrected the situation a bit. This minus will not affect the owners of Canton - everything is in order there with speakers and sound.

Some elements of the interior look cheap. Savings on the little things. There is no insulation under the hood, no gas stop for the hood, there were no rugs in the car for 1 million! Kick me that I am cut off, but there should be rugs!

Where can I buy?

Particularly impressive is the 1.4 turbo engine, the dynamics are super! Trunk, handling, economy and cool dynamics. In general, there are solid pluses in the car ... And I would be happy and happy, but after almost a year, the question arose about the "drain" of this car into a trade-in due to an unreliable DSG boxes 7.

Three clutch replacements in 9 months! Mileage is less than 30,000 km. Before buying, I read about the problems of this box, but so much so! This is the main disadvantage that blocks a bunch of small jambs like bad noise, a howling kondeya compressor, poor body rigidity (when the car is on an uneven surface, the doors do not open / close well), glitches of the Bolero sensor radio in wet weather (switches radio stations itself, does not respond on pressing) and many others.

But these are all trifles, in comparison with the eternal breakdowns of one of the main components of the car - the gearbox.

Ilya Popov, review of Skoda Octavia 1.4 (140 hp) automatic transmission 2013

Compare with the previous Octavia. The car has become a little larger, the dynamics are the same, given that there is an automatic machine. Eats on average 1-1.5 liters less. Based on the reviews, I expected this engine to eat up oil. The fears were not justified. Three times ugh. The trunk is just as big, but much more practical in a station wagon.

Heavy trunk lid. If it gets covered with snow, it is difficult to lift to get the brush from the trunk. With this engine, there is a beam at the back. In winter, on sharp turns, when increased speed, ass is trying to skid. The previous ones were independent suspension, and the car entered the turns as if on rails. Slightly harsh suspension. The point is the shock absorber struts.

There were many cars, but for the first time on the machine. We were embarrassed by the sensitive switching to increase (from 1 to 2 and then to 3 speed) to the cold one, but as soon as the box warms up, the tremors disappear. The dealers said that this is how vending machines work. Now I'm used to it.

Review of Skoda Octavia 1.6 (110 hp) with automatic transmission 2016

The 1.8 180 horsepower engine was very impressive. Huge power reserve at any speed. Driving along the track has become just a walk. Overtaking became elementary - 3 seconds and that's it! The consumption on the highway is less than 7 liters at speeds of 130-150 and the air conditioner is on, in the city - 10 liters.

A very comfortable box, both in normal mode and in sports. Very soft shifting, quick response to the gas pedal. The stabilization system is generally fire!

The car is very stable on the road - 80 km / h is like walking. The handling is excellent. And, of course, the liftback body! Huge trunk! This is great family car with the ability to dynamically ride.

Review of Skoda Octavia 1.8 (180 hp) with a robot 2017 onwards

The novelty was presented in December 2012. Thanks to the work of the chief designer of the project, Josef Kaban, the car was able to combine such important properties as striking appearance and practicality, for which all previous generations of Octavia were famous.

If we compare the body of the second and third generation liftback, then the following changes in overall dimensions are obtained:

Length 4659 (+90 mm.);

Width 1814 (+45 mm.);

Height 1476 (+14 mm.);

Wheelbase 2686 (+108 mm.);

Ground clearance 155 (-9 mm.);

Front track width 1549 (+8 mm.);

Rear track width 1520 (+6 mm.).

The volume of the trunk has also increased - for the liftback up to 568/1558 liters, for the station wagon (Comb) up to 588/1718 liters.

In 2017, the Skoda Octavia A7 was restyled, as a result of which some dimensions slightly changed, so the length was increased to 4670 mm., and the width of the rear track began to have a value of 1540 mm. In addition, the headlights have changed, taillights, front and rear bumper, as well as a radiator grill. You can view comparative photos of the Octavia versions of dorestyling and restyling in power units there is only one change, the 2.0 TSI engine now has 230 hp, versus 220 hp. on pre-styling. A car with a 1.8 TSI engine can now be selected with either front wheel drive, or with all-wheel drive, which is realized thanks to the multi-plate clutch and its control unit. There are at least a few changes in the cabin.

Skoda engines Octavia iii.

Dorestyling in the Russian Federation had 4 types to choose from power plants with gasoline fuel - this is one aspirated 1.6 MPI (mod. CWVA engine) with a power of 110 hp. at 5800 rpm and three turbocharged 1.4 TSI (CHPA and CZDA) with 140 and 150 hp. at 5000-6000 rpm, 1.8 TSI (CJSA; CJSB) with 180 hp at 5100-6200 rpm, as well as 2.0 TSI (CHHB) with a maximum power of 220 hp. at 4500-6200 rpm. Our diesel engine was represented by only one 2.0 liter turbo engine. TDI CR (CKFC; CRMB; CYKA) with a maximum power of 150 hp at 3500-4000 rpm. As I wrote above, with the advent of restyling, the 2.0 TSI installation added an additional 10 hp to the power.

The most popular engine for 2017 can be called the 1.4 TSI, which is the most optimal in terms of such aggregate characteristics as price, dynamics and efficiency. The engine is part of the EA211 powertrain series, which replaced the EA111 series. 1.4 TSI EA211, unlike its predecessor, has an aluminum block with cast iron liners, the cylinder diameter has been reduced by 2.0 mm. to a value of 74.5 mm .. Crankshaft became lighter, the piston stroke is 80.0 mm. The cylinder head has 16 valves, two camshafts... Unlike the 1.4 TSI EA111, the exhaust manifold, which is integrated into the cylinder head itself, is now located at the back. On engine versions 140-150 hp phase shifters are located both at the inlet and outlet (not to be confused with the 122 hp version, in which the phase shifter is located only at the inlet). A belt is used as a drive, the replacement interval of which is 70-90 thousand km.

From typical problems all gasoline engines can be noted for a replacement in the early runs of the thermostat. Cases of failure of the turbine actuator (turbocharger regulator) are not uncommon. Until September 2014, this problem was solved by a full replacement of the turbine, after which changes were made to the design and the boost regulator could be replaced without replacing the turbine. 1.6 MPI engines are the simplest of all, but they also have problems - a breakdown of the air conditioner compressor, fuel pump, as well as increased oil consumption up to 0.5 l / 1000 km. Details of the 1.6 MPI engine in various modifications can be read

Power plants 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI from the EA888 series have a timing chain drive. Maslozhor these engines also did not bypass, but the cases became isolated, in contrast to the previous generations of these motors. Let me remind you that the main reason for the increased appetite of the previous generation 1.8-2.0 TSI engine for oil was coking drain holes oil scraper rings... As a rule, the beginning of the coking process began at runs of 50-60 thousand km, the complete coking of the drainage rings was completed at runs of 100-120 thousand km. The dealer in this case replaces the pistons with a drainage of greater capacity. On the new 1.8-2.0-liter engines, oil zhor is found, judging by the specialized forums, but these cases are isolated. In general, it is believed that the most problem-free gasoline engines on the Skoda Octavia A7 are 1.8-liter.

The turbo diesel 2.0 TDI CR is also good. A fairly reliable and unpretentious unit. The only jamb is the timing belt tensioner, which fails ahead of time and asks for a replacement on runs of 140-150 thousand km.

Skoda Octavia A7 transmission.

For 1.6 liter engine. there are two options: 5-st. Manual transmission and 6-speed. Automatic transmission. On engines 1.4 and 1.8, they already put 6-speed ones. Manual transmission or DSG-7. The manual transmission in both cases is considered very reliable; as a nit-picking, early wear of the bearings can be noted, which leads to a characteristic howl, but in general nothing critical. The hydromechanical automatic transmission is also very reliable, but up to 120-150 thousand km. mileage may be a problem with the valve body. A lot has already been written about DSG7 (DQ200) and you can read about it and , but it must be added that compared to earlier versions robotic boxes of this model, by our time they have improved significantly and the percentage of breakdowns has significantly decreased ... although, of course, in my opinion of an amateur, this is a bad option for quiet operation of the car, especially if the car warranty is over.))) For restyling Skoda Octavia A7 2017 with a 1.8 TSI engine with four-wheel drive, as well as on 2.0 TDI CR and 2.0 TSI, DSG6 (DQ250) is installed, which is considered more reliable, the main thing is timely replacement oil (interval 50-60 thousand km), prevent wheel slip and try to push less in traffic jams. Resource DSG-6 at correct operation can reach 200-250 thousand km. without opening.
