However, there are also significant disadvantages, the main of them is a double energy conversion and, as a result, a low total efficiency (approximately 70%), which is reduced in the maximum torque modes and with increasing speed. And the hydraulic pumps and hydraulic machines are expensive and need highly qualified service. Therefore, hydraulic transmissions on serial passenger cars still not applied, although it is long and widely used on the special equipment - in agriculture, construction and transport for oversized cargo.

In Renault, most likely, tested knots and units of the French company Poclain Hydraulics, a well-known manufacturer construction machinery. For example, Poclain C 2005 supplies renault companies Trucks, Man, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo Auxiliary transmission under the trademark Addidrive - with hydraulic trading in the hub of the front wheels of heavy trucks. Interestingly, experiments with hydraulic transmissia in 2013 led and the PSA Peugeot Citroen group, however, in collaboration with Bosch. The hydraulic engine at the Peugeot 2008 Hybrid Air Concept was applied not for the sake of a full drive, but as a component of a hybrid transmission. The pump driven from the traditional gearbox pumped the oil into the hydroaccumulator, squeezing the gas. When driving in the city to save fuel, this process was launched in the opposite direction: compressed nitrogen, expanding, pulled the oil into the hydraulic engine, also built into the gearbox. Poclain argues that the cost of its hydro-sharing full drive is twice as smaller than the traditional mechanical, and the mass does not exceed 40 kg. However, the Addidrive system has not yet found a mass application - now it is offered only to finalize the vans Peugeot Boxer.
