Inexpensive and reliable car; Opel Zafira review with mileage. Weaknesses and strengths of the Opel Zafira B according to the owners' reviews Breakdowns and problems in operation

home / Advice

For the first time a brand Opel zafira appeared in 1997, the car was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but it was only a prototype.

First appearance

In reality, the minivan appeared on the market in 1999 and in many respects it resembles the Opel Astra.

In 2003, the first generation Zafira underwent a slight restyling:

  • the rear lights have changed somewhat;
  • a radiator grill with chrome trim was installed.

In 2005 year Opel started producing the second generation Zafira B, this model was radically different from its predecessor.

In the car, besides exterior design, the following changes have occurred:

  • the body was lengthened by 15 cm;
  • the system appeared in the car active safety passengers;
  • the rear seats have become convertible, they can be easily folded, freeing up space in the cabin.

In 2011, the German concern presented the world with the version of the Opel Zafira C Tourer - the model was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show, and in Russia it appeared in 2013.

Opel Zafira engine range

The Opel Zafira engine range includes both gasoline and diesel engines.

The most common are gasoline internal combustion engines of 1600 cm3 (Z16XE) and 1800 cm3 (Z18XER).

The Z16XE motor has a power of 105/115 hp. With. (two options), engine Z18XER - 140 "horses".

In addition to these power units, there is also an internal combustion engine of 2200 cm3 (150 hp) and a turbocharged engine of 2000 cm3 (170, 200 or 240 hp, depending on the engine modification).

In the line of diesel engines, there are two power units in total:

  • 1.7 CDTI with a volume of 1700 cm3 and a capacity of 125 liters. With.;
  • Z19DT / Z19DTL with a volume of 1900 cm3, a capacity of 120 liters. With. and 150 liters. With.

In Europe, a Zafira car was produced, running on methane fuel, but such a copy was not produced in Russia.

Common problems with the Opel Zafira B

Possible engine problems.

A belt drive is used in the gas distribution mechanism of the motors, and according to the factory recommendations, the belt should be changed after 150 t. Km.

In practice, replacing the timing belt in Russian conditions it is recommended to do it after about 60 t. km.

A break in the timing belt does not bode well - with such a malfunction, the valve in the block head meets the pistons, and they bend.

At best, the car owner will get off by replacing the valves, but the cylinder head may also have to be changed.

If oil gets on the timing belt, then the belt can jump to a tooth, which will also not lead to anything good - the motor will triple and not develop power.

It is not uncommon for the thermostat to jam in the engine cooling system, but this happens closer to 100 t. Km of run.

The thermostat itself is inexpensive, especially since you can always purchase non-original spare parts.

Diesel engines are highly reliable, but it is still impossible to refuel with bad diesel fuel. Diesel 1700 cm3 is most sensitive to the quality of fuel; fuel injectors fail on these engines.

Another of common problems diesels - this is, over time, clogged and does not allow the car to move in normal mode.

This item is worth exhaust system very expensive, many car owners are trying to put a snag, bypass the particulate filter.

In order for the motor to work stably and not go into emergency mode, the control unit is flashed.

Transmission problems.

The manual transmission on the Opel Zafira B begins to "give up" after hundreds of thousands of kilometers:

  • a hum is heard when shifting gears;
  • jerks appear when the car starts to move.

The reason for the signs that have appeared is wear on the roller bearings and the output shaft itself.

The robotic gearbox is even weaker, problems almost always begin with it closer to the mileage of 150 t. Km.

The main cause of breakdowns is the clutch, therefore, it is necessary to operate a car with such a transmission as carefully as possible.

There is another way to extend the life of the robot gearbox and clutch - update the software during maintenance.

The automated transmission will be the most reliable of any transmission installed on the Opel Zafira.

Problems with it are rare, but you need to monitor the oil level. If the oil is less than specified, the gears begin to shift with jerks.

Suspension problems.

Suspension Zafira is very similar to "Astrovskaya", it is quite reliable, and begins to fail closer to 100 tons. Km.

To increase its resource, you should not drive a car on bad roads, as well as overload the interior and trunk.

The stabilizer struts are consumable and usually change on a run from 30 to 40 t. Km.

The problem with all Opels is the rear springs, they break quite often, especially when the car is constantly loaded.

It is also often necessary to change the wheel bearings, but the shock absorbers serve for quite a long time.

Steering rods and tips freely nurture about hundreds of thousands of kilometers, and at a price they are completely inexpensive.

It is possible that it may start to flow steering rack, the power steering also periodically fail.

The steering rack and power steering pump are very expensive, but there are options:

  • repair units;
  • look for spare parts at auto dismantlers.

The Zafira B paintwork is not on the high level However, this "sore" is typical for all Opel cars.

The German manufacturer, although already owned by the French concern, is returning to the domestic market. In his lineup include Opel Zafira with the Life prefix. The novelty has nothing to do with the car of the same name, produced in the days of General Motors. In fact, it is a redesigned version of a French minivan sold under the names Peugeot Traveler, Citroen SpaceTourer and even Toyota Proace. Strictly speaking, the Vauxhall brand division uses the name Vivaro. All the differences lie in the nameplates, logos and design of the front. The "German" has a slightly enlarged radiator grille with a thin horizontal chrome trim. The headlights have a simpler shape, without the bumper creeping onto them. A more significant difference lies in the equipment list. So, the starting equipment of Innovation is more expensive than that of its French counterpart, but it differs in richer technical stuffing... The list of equipment includes: two sliding doors on the sides, front and side airbags, steel stamped wheel disks 16 inches, stabilization system, cruise control, climate control and a separate air conditioning system for rear row passengers, an autonomous pre-start heater Webasto, front parking sensors and a rear-view camera, a seven-inch screen entertainment system, and an engine start button. The assembly is adjusted at the facilities Kaluga plant PCMA.

dimensions

Opel Zafira is a passenger minivan capable of taking on board from six to nine people. In the basic version, it is 4600 mm long, 1920 mm wide, 1905 mm high and 3275 mm between wheelsets... For an additional fee, you can order a version extended by 350 mm. The wheelbase is retained. The longest version is available outside the domestic market. From bumper to bumper, it measures 5.3 meters. It is worth noting that a van will appear in Russia next year, but it will bear the name Vivaro, like the model of the sub-brand.

Specifications

Only one power unit is available for the Opel Zafira. This is a two-liter in-line turbocharged diesel four with a power system. Common rail... She develops 150 Horse power at 4000 rpm and 3700 Nm of torque from 2000 rpm crankshaft in a minute. As a transmission, an exclusively classic hydromechanical automatic with six operating ranges is offered. At the start of sales, the drive will only be to the front wheels. Later it will be possible to order a plug-in system with a multi-plate clutch. As a result, the car is able to accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in 12.3 seconds. The high-speed ceiling is located at around 183 kilometers per hour. Fuel consumption is 7 liters of diesel at a city driving pace, 5.6 liters on the highway and 6.2 liters in the combined cycle.

Opel zafira) second generation - a large and comfortable car at an affordable price, perhaps the best way for large family... Especially if the budget for buying a car is not large, it is worth noting that Zafira is one of the most affordable, presented on secondary market... There is very little about this car. negative reviews, but nevertheless, it has drawbacks, but what they are, and what to look for before buying this model, now let's talk.

A bit of history:

For the first time, the Opel Zafira was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the spring of 1997, but in the guise of a prototype, the real history of the minivan began in 1999. The technical properties of the Opel Zafira resemble the Opel Astra, but still, there are some differences. For example, reinforced rear suspension and bumper bigger size with air intake. In 2003, given the emergence of a large number of competitors, the company's management decided to easily update the car, after which the exterior slightly changed, and the list of available options increased. In 2005, a new generation of the model was presented in Geneva, built on a new platform, with a radically changed body design. Thanks to the new platform, the body length has increased by 15 cm, the width - by 4 cm, and the height - by 1 cm. Also, the proprietary feature of the car has been improved - a quick transformation of the interior. Most of the cars sold on the secondary market are assembled in Poland or Russia.

Advantages and disadvantages of Opel Zafira with mileage.

Operating experience has shown that paintwork very soft, because of this, chips and scratches appear on the body quickly enough. After 5-6 years of operation, on the tailgate, wheel arches and back doors the paint starts to swell. In spite of this, body parts does not rust for a long time.

Power units

The line of Opel Zafira engines is presented in both gasoline and diesel versions. The most widespread are gasoline engines 1.6 (105 and 115 HP), 1.8 (140 HP) and diesel engines 1.7 (110, 125 HP) and 1.9 (100, 120, 150 HP). There is also an unusual version of the 1.6 engine, which runs on natural gas, but it is a great success to come across such a car. For those who like to "light up", there is a 2.2 engine (150 hp), a 2.0 turbo engine (200 hp) and a sports version of the OPC (240 hp).

The timing drive for gasoline and diesel engines is belt-driven, officially, the replacement interval is 150,000 km, but many owners recommend changing it at least once every 100,000, since very often the belt breaks when the mileage is 110-130 thousand km. Gasoline aspirated engines have a common problem with automatic timing control. If the car has this defect, you will understand it immediately: after starting cold motor, sound of work gasoline engine will look more like an old diesel. If this problem is not cured, at the most inopportune moment the car will stall and you will not be able to start it.

Often there is a failure of the mechanical synchronization system of the intake camshaft, for the elimination of the problem in the service they will ask for $ 20-50. But if you ignore the operation of a gasoline engine with the sound of a diesel engine, you will soon need to replace the gears and camshaft oil seals. With a mileage of more than 80,000 km, an oil leak appears from under the cylinder head and oil seals, it must be urgently eliminated, otherwise the oil will get on the timing belt, which will result in costly repairs power unit... Diesel engines from Opel Zafira are very reliable and economical, but if the previous owner used poor quality fuel, be prepared for repair fuel system... Replacement of nozzles (400-500 cu), injection pump (300-400 cu). On all cars, closer to 100,000 km, the ignition module begins to fail, floating speed and unstable traction of the car will serve as a signal of a malfunction. Also, this run requires replacement of the coolant temperature sensor and thermostat

Transmission

Opel Zafira is equipped with a mechanical, automatic or robotic box Easytronic transmission (Izitronic). Up to 100,000 km there are no complaints about the manual transmission, after that there are jerks when starting off, hum and vibration when shifting gears and driving. This is due to wear of the output shaft and roller bearing, repairs will cost about 350 USD. The clutch has a fairly large resource and is capable of serving 120-140 thousand km, replacement will cost 400-500 USD. For many car enthusiasts, Easytronic looks like an automatic transmission, but in terms of its reliability it is very much inferior to an automatic transmission. Therefore, often not honest sellers who sell cars with a problem robot indicate in their ad that a car with automatic transmission, be extremely careful.

If the car is used only for driving on the highway, then robotic transmission can last 150,000 km. But if the car is operated in a metropolis, then an expensive gearbox repair will be needed when the mileage is less than 100,000 km. The most common problem is clutch failure, repairs will cost $ 700-900, the same amount will have to be paid for replacing the mechatronics. The best option for the acquisition will be an Opel Zafira with the usual automatic transmission gear. As operating experience has shown, breakdowns in this transmission are extremely rare. On some cars, there is an underfilling of oil, in which case the gears may change poorly, and you can also feel jerks when shifting. Usually, after adding oil, these problems go away on their own.

Driving performance Opel Zafira

The suspension of this model is quite primitive, the front is installed independent suspension MacPherson type, rear semi-independent beam. If you drive this car carefully and do not overload it, then the first serious repair of the suspension will have to be done closer to 80 thousand kilometers. Like most modern cars weak point suspension struts are considered to be stabilizer struts, they have to be changed, on average, every 30-40 thousand km. Wheel bearings, despite high cost, rarely live up to 60,000 km, replacement will cost 120-180 USD. Support bearings serve 40-50 thousand km, front shock absorbers become unusable after 100,000 km, but only on condition that you do not overload the car. The cost of the original shock absorber is about $ 100-120, for the same money you can buy a pair that is not original.

The rest of the front suspension parts of the Opel Zafira nurture more than 100,000 km. Steering rods and tips have a resource of 100-120 thousand km. Rear suspension it is considered not to be killed, the only thing that will have to be replaced in it is the rear beam dampers after 120,000 km (replacement on both sides will cost $ 40). If the steering rack begins to leak, do not rush to go to the service and change it to a new one, for a replacement at the dealer you will have to pay about 1000 USD. Try to find a specialist in the repair of this unit in your city, the repair will cost $ 100-200.

Outcome:

Opel Zafira will appeal to people who are cramped in station wagons, sedans and hatchbacks, as well as those who like to travel in a large company. If we talk about the reliability and cost of maintaining the car, then in these components the car will give only positive emotions. The main thing is to find a live specimen! Also, avoid buying a car with a robotic transmission.

Advantages:

  • Capacity (7 places).
  • High-quality interior materials.
  • Long service life of engines.
  • Reliable suspension

Flaws:

  • Weak paintwork.
  • Robotic transmission.
  • Not a very comfortable driver's seat.
  • Noise isolation.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your feedback that will help the readers of our site when choosing a car.

Best regards, AvtoAvenu editorial staff

It seems that now I will be a little biased. More precisely, "biased". The fact is that I really love diesel cars and I think they are the only thing. the right choice for a person who is looking for a car for every day. Not to mention avid travelers or owners of a large family, which every weekend in full force moves to the country and back.

I spent more than a week at Zafira, equipped with a new 1.9 CDTI (D stands for "diesel") engine, but never regretted that I got it for the next long "holidays". Who will be against it if at his disposal (albeit for a while) there is a car capable of driving about 900 kilometers on one 58-liter tank!

And all thanks to the 150-horsepower motor, which has a truly inexhaustible supply of traction and a very modest appetite. On the track, you can immediately turn on the sixth gear and completely forget about the gearshift lever until you arrive at your destination. This engine equally confidently accelerates the car both at 90 kilometers per hour and at 180, and at the same time has a completely non-diesel character - it willingly rotates up to five thousand revolutions and does not sour at the "top".

Average fuel consumption at a cruising speed of 100-110 kilometers per hour is only 5.5-5.8 liters per hundred kilometers! This is slightly more than "according to the passport" (5.2 liters), but taking into account the real traffic conditions on a busy highway.

The suspension of the diesel "Zafira" at first seems too stiff, especially for a family car. The European-style dense chassis meticulously repeats the profile of the road, transmitting (albeit in a "rounded" form) all the irregularities on the steering wheel and seats. But in such settings, the suspension has its own plus - it has good energy consumption and even on bad road"Zafira" does not annoy with either blows or longitudinal swinging of the body.

And it turned out to be not easy to drive "Zafira" like a minivan. The feeling that you are at the wheel of the bus is certainly there - due to the high seating position, the unusual tilt of the steering wheel and the location of the gear lever, which is located on the tide of the center console. But in the habits of the Opel Zafira there is not even a trace of that "gravity" that you subconsciously expect from a car of this size and with such a center of gravity. On the contrary - quick and clear reactions to steering, minimal roll, comfortable and informative brakes and a distinct clutch pedal. And most importantly - confident overclocking in almost any situation. Not quite the usual character for a diesel minivan, is it?

Passengers will feel comfortable and just behind, and "completely behind". That is, even on the third-row seats, which are normally hidden in niches in the floor. The Flex 7's interior transformation system, which I read a lot about, but never saw in person, turned out to be surprisingly simple, but quite witty. Due to the fact that the backrests of the third row seats are placed under the second row sofa seat (folded, of course), they do not take up space in the trunk and allow you to fully preserve its useful volume. In addition, even those sitting on the "gallery" in "Zafira" will not be cramped - I checked. Thanks to the special stamping for the feet in the floor, the seating of passengers is natural, and the small-sized seats are equipped with head restraints and are quite comfortable even for a long journey.

Moreover, on our car, in the Cosmo configuration, the second row sofa was made in one piece, so the possibilities of its transformation were limited to moving back and forth and lifting the "seat" (this was done so that you could climb onto the third row of seats or increase the volume of the trunk for transporting large loads ). On more expensive models, the second row seats can be made separate, which, of course, is more comfortable.

And also "Zafira" can be ordered with a panoramic glass roof, a beautiful trim of the front panel under "piano lacquer", an advanced multimedia system with a large color display and many other useful or just pleasant "chips" ...

Arithmetic lessons

After reading the first part of the article, many of you have probably decided that you can save a lot on "diesel". I hate to upset you, but that's not true. Because owning a diesel car in Russia is not as profitable as it seems at first glance.

First, machines with diesel engines are more expensive. Take, for example, "Zafira": the same car in the Cosmo configuration as we had can be bought for 799 thousand rubles, and a similarly equipped minivan with gasoline engine 1.8 (140 horsepower) will cost you 110 thousand rubles less.

Secondly, the fuel. Indeed, the Opel Zafira 1.9 CDTI in the urban cycle consumes (according to the passport) 2.2 liters of fuel less than its gasoline counterpart, but in practice the diesel is even more economical. But even if every hundred kilometers the owner diesel car will be able to save three liters of "diesel fuel", then due to the same prices for diesel fuel and its savings on A-95 gasoline will be only 75 rubles. Or 20-22 thousand rubles a year, based on an average annual mileage of 25-30 thousand kilometers. So, the average driver will be able to "beat off" the difference in the cost of a diesel car only in 5-6 years. But many motorists change cars much more often.

Finally, service. Service intervals for most diesel cars sold in Russia are shorter than gasoline ones. For "Zafira" with "diesel", for example, it is 10,000 kilometers, and for gasoline - 15,000 kilometers. The cost of maintenance is also 15-20 percent higher. And if you, God forbid, refuel with low-quality "diesel fuel", then repair fuel equipment you will have to pay at your own expense - you may not even count on a guarantee.

Advantages and disadvantages of Opel Zafira 2007-2008 revealed based on reviews real owners... More detailed pros and cons of Opel Zafira 1.8 and 1.9 petrol and diesel with mechanics, robot and front-wheel drive can be found in the stories below:

Owner reviews

1. Roomy.
2. Good handling.
3. Indestructible suspension.
4. Excellent climate control.
5. Starts up in any frost (the minimum temperature in which the winding up - 37, wound up on 1 attempt after an overnight stay in the yard).
6. Predictable and quite high resource of units.
7. Fuel consumption (AI-92) in the city is 10-11 liters in winter and summer, on a highway with a box on the roof - 6.8-7 liters. I did not feel the difference between 92 and 95 gasoline.
8. Very grippy brakes.

1. Poor permeability (although, of course, depending on what to compare with).
2. Poor visibility (very wide front pillars, small mirrors), often pedestrians "come up out of nowhere" and you need to be prepared for this.
3. In frost below -20, the interior warms up after 10 minutes of warming up and 30 minutes of driving at an average speed of 50-60 km / h, and then only if there is a car blanket.

Review of Opel Zafira family 1.8 (140 hp) with mechanics 2006 onwards

Video review

I want to say right away that I really liked the car. Outwardly beautiful, inside there is space, a bunch of transformation options. In the cabin, in comparison with the Japanese, everything is different, at first it was unusual, but then I realized that it was better for me, more comfortable here (I felt right away - my lower back stopped hurting, I sat on the King for 10 minutes and started whining, no matter how I adjusted the seat) ...

The car is operated every day - a child to the kindergarten, his wife and himself to work, in the evening at reverse order... On average, 30-40 km per day. Mileage to date is 56,000 km.

Engine. Installed Z18XER 1.8 140 hp Good high-torque high-speed engine with variable valve timing system. There is enough power. Lucky!

For me, it seemed interesting how it starts. First, as the saying goes, "half-kick", i.e. like a diesel engine - just turned the key, and it is already working. And also in winter! The minimum temperature at which the ringleader is -38 C.

Secondly, as soon as it starts up, the revolutions are set at 1000 rpm and gradually, within 1-5 minutes (depending on the temperature outside), decrease to idle ~ 750 rpm. There is no terrible "warm-up" roar for 15-20 minutes!

By the way, my consumption is from 7 to 15 l / 100 km, and 15 l was "achieved" in those very frosts exclusively in the city (and the city stood decently - the average speed on the board computer was 14 km / h). Warm-ups were - 3 times a day, 10 minutes each. Now it's warmer, on-board computer shows already (!) 14l / 100 km. Lot! In summer, the city is about 10.5-11 l / 100 km. Driving style is active.

Transmission. There is a box F17, 5 steps. Mechanics, and I thought I wouldn’t remember how to ride it! But no, “Remember! They remember the little ones! " (With). Still for me mechanical box better than an automatic machine. Like.

The most pleasant speed is 100-120 km / h. In this case, the engine speed is about 3,000 - 3,200 rpm. It goes easily and more, gaining 150 km / h, handling remains the same excellent, but the acoustic noise is already annoying. I would like to have the 6th gear. Switches clearly. Normal, regular box.

Driving performance. Fine! The suspension is knocked down, elastic, quite strong. I have never punched, well, maybe I drive carefully. The car, of course, for the track, its element, you can light it up! It goes along the track like a train on rails, very stable. But it seemed to me that she was afraid of the ruts - there were areas where there was a clear ruts on the asphalt - I tried to jump out, drove along the road.

Review of Opel Zafira Family 1.8 (140 HP) manual transmission 2008

The car was used mainly for driving on the highway (approximately 90% of the distance traveled). Consumption of 5.3 liters per 100 km in summer and about 6 liters in winter. In the city, consumption increases by 1.5-2.0 liters. I don't drive much, but at 100 km / h the car goes well, and at 130 km / h it gets scary. There is a bad feeling that the car is being pulled off the road.

Noise isolation is one of the disadvantages of the machine. The car is quite noisy. At high speed, you have to speak loudly, but not yell. Well, the main problem is clearance. He's missing. The lower molding (skirt) tore in the first month, driving into the curb.

The car was bought as family car... Four fit without problem. Large trunk where you can put a bunch of all kinds of junk. If something does not fit into the trunk, there is a roof with rails. The transportation of any goods does not cause problems.

When the family was replenished, they decided to use the third row of seats. Suddenly it turned out that the third row was made incomprehensibly for whom. A nine-year-old human cub of slender constitution (among the common people drishch) can be accommodated there with great discomfort. Sits down, covering his ears with his knees. During one trip (about 6 km) I hit my head twice on the second row of seats. How to use the third row is not clear.

Review about Opel Zafira 1.9D diesel with mechanics 2009

The car was produced in 2012, bought in the 2013th new in the salon. Reliability has not failed yet. I only changed fluids and lamps.

The sitting is super. I have problems with my lower back. But 1400 pass by this car without an overnight stay. The capacity of the car is completely satisfied. The trunk is huge. While building the house, I spent the night in the car for several days. Slightly diagonally, but slept at full height on a flat surface.

I liked the balance of the car, namely handling / comfort and power / consumption. Sometimes I think that I would like more power, but then the consumption will be higher.

If there are very short sections for overtaking, then the "sport" button makes the car faster, but more twitchy and less comfortable. And the consumption is growing. Stands on the road confidently, rulitsya excellent for a van, moreover, with a beam in the back. For this, I am ready to sacrifice a little heavy steering wheel when parking.

The most low temperature launch was -37. Started up immediately. True, the sounds at first were such that it was a pity for the car, but literally 5-10 seconds.

Review of the Opel Zafira B 1.8 (140 HP) with a robot of 2012

Today the mileage is 90,000 km. During this time there was only one glitch - the check was burning, the car was stupid, the box did not switch ... A visit to the diagnostician revealed frayed wiring leading to the speed sensor. The postings were corrected - the problem was solved.

What I like about the car: spaciousness, very comfortable seats, high ground clearance, load capacity 630 kg, excellent suspension, 7-terrain, universal body, many stars in crash tests, etc.

What's not to like about the car: It is very inconvenient to change the low beam lamps and cabin filter... If the filter is even more or less, then the light bulbs ... Also, who came up with the idea of turning the air conditioner on and off through the menu? Was it really impossible to make a separate button?

A kind of robot box ... But we got used to it. The wife, after the automatic transmission, of course, swore heavily!
