Where there is demand, there is supply

Standing on a car in summer in a traffic jam of drivers most of all "gets" the heat. The car from the sun's rays warms up so much that it is almost impossible to sit in it. This problem is very well solved by the climate systems of the car, the design of which includes an air conditioner.

But such equipment is an additional "headache" for the driver, since it requires periodic Maintenance and elimination.

But still, such a device allows you to feel comfortable being in the car, even in extreme heat.

But not all cars are equipped with air conditioning. And this applies not only to old models.

New cars of the budget segment in basic configuration while they are rarely equipped with an air conditioner. So drivers have to either suffer, enduring the heat, or look for an alternative.

It is interesting that the fight against this problem has been going on for a long time, and with the use of technical means.

Perhaps the very first device was a small one, driven by a 12-volt electric motor, which was powered through a cigarette lighter.

And although the fan is not very useful, since it only provides air circulation in the cabin, it is still in great demand.

And where there is demand, there is supply. And since technologies do not stand still, the market for car accessories has been replenished with another gadget, which, according to the assurances of manufacturers, is able to provide coolness in the cabin in the summer.

Such a device is called a portable air conditioner that is powered by a cigarette lighter.

Air conditioners from the "cigarette lighter"

Naturally, this wonderful device was developed in China, which has long distinguished itself by the manufacture of various outlandish things. But such devices are already being made in other countries.

According to the assurances of the manufacturers, such an air conditioner is able to provide coolness in the cabin, and for this you do not need to alter something in the car, we just purchase the device, connect it to the car's on-board network, set the operating parameters and enjoy the coolness. But is this really so, we will try to figure it out.

So, after wandering around the trading floors, you can stumble upon an advertisement for the sale of mini-air conditioners for cars powered by a 12 Volt network.

The most interesting thing is that many models do not have a specific name, which already prompts certain thoughts. Several models of such equipment are shown below.

Option number 1.

First representative:

The description for it indicates that this is a portable heat fan with a moisture trap and air conditioner. It is connected to a cigarette lighter and has a power of 150 watts.

This is one of the most common types of portable car air conditioners.

But we note right away that first of all it is indicated that this is a fan, and that is what it is, but in addition a heating coil is installed in it, that is, it cannot cool the air in principle.

That is, when choosing such a device, you need to carefully read the description for it, ignoring the name.

Option number 2.

The second model offered on marketplaces looks like this.

But after looking at the description and specifications, you can understand that it differs from the first version only in the body, but the "filling" they have is the same.

That is, this is also a swindle, and for some reason an ordinary fan is called an air conditioner.

Option number 3.

The third option offered by manufacturers is as follows.

There is nothing special to write about him, since he is also an ordinary fan, and even heated, which in the summer will be clearly superfluous.

It is more massive than the first three representatives. And all because in its design not only one fan is used, but also there is a water evaporator.

It works like this: a fan drives air through a special fabric filter, which is constantly supplied with water, that is, it is wet.

This really allows you to cool the air, but very slightly, so there is no particular sense from such equipment either.

There are a number of such options (with a water evaporator), which differ only externally, but they work the same way.

Option number 5.

And here is a really entertaining option, and it is no longer made in China, but made in Italy:

This is really an air conditioner, and it works from the on-board network of a car, but it is only intended for trucks mobiles, and for cars - not suitable, since the equipment consumes a large amount of energy and the on-board network of a car simply will not withstand.

In addition, it is located on the roof, and only the control panel starts up in the cabin.

Model SW CUBE 12V.

The model deserves attention as it has its own compressor.

But if you study the technical characteristics of this model, then you begin to understand that this mini air conditioner is suitable for trucks, since the current consumption of the device is 36 Amperes.

If you put this model in a passenger car, then not a single fuse can withstand such a load, even though the device has a battery protection system.

Why can't you make a portable car air conditioner?

In general, the idea is very interesting, but at the moment it is impossible to implement it. To understand everything, consider the design and principle of operation of a standard car air conditioner.

The main elements of a car air conditioning system are a compressor, an evaporator and a condenser.

Additionally, a dryer and an expansion valve are included in the system. All this is combined into a single sealed system through which the refrigerant circulates.

Moreover, these constituent elements scattered throughout the front of the car, most of them are installed in the engine compartment, and the evaporator is located under the dashboard.

It all works like this: the compressor is driven by power plant(and it takes a lot of power). When operating, this element circulates the refrigerant in a closed system.

First, it enters the condenser, where it turns into a liquid state. Moreover, this transition is accompanied by an active release of heat into the environment, which leads to a change in the state of aggregation of the refrigerant.

After the condenser, the refrigerant is piped through optional equipment system enters the evaporator.

There is a process of changing the state of matter - it again becomes gaseous. In this case, everything is accompanied by active heat absorption.

And since the evaporator is located under the dashboard, it takes heat from the passenger compartment. And the intake of heat is the release of cold, which then dissipates through the cabin due to the fans installed in front of the evaporator.

After the evaporator, the refrigerant enters the compressor, and the whole process is completely repeated.

The diagram clearly shows the principle of operation of a standard car air conditioner:

From the above, it can be understood that for the normal operation of the air conditioner, there must be a refrigerant - a substance that can very quickly change its state of aggregation (usually freon acts as it), and in sufficient quantity.

It should also be circulated through the system, which, in general, is not very small, that is, it should have good power.

And most importantly, the coolant needs to somewhere to put the heat taken from the passenger compartment.

There are, of course, monolithic systems as well. The representative of this design is the Italian mini-air conditioner for trucks. He has all the constituent elements of a standard air conditioner, but they are enclosed in one case.

Suppose that it is possible to create the same monolithic structure, powered by a cigarette lighter, filled with freon, which will be even more compact and can be installed in the cabin.

But this will only make it worse - during condensation, the refrigerant will give off heat to the cabin, and the equipment will cool the air on the one hand, but on the other, it will immediately warm it up. And given the fact that it is impossible to power a powerful electric motor from the cigarette lighter, which will drive the compressor, therefore, the circulation of the refrigerant will not be fast enough.

What is the use of the presented "autoconditioners"?

Based on this information, it is possible to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the presented models of "mini-car air conditioners" (according to the manufacturers).

The first four models have only one advantage - it is really not difficult to install and connect them - installed on dashboard or any other convenient place, inserted the plug into the cigarette lighter and that's it.

But the disadvantages are much more, and the main one is that they are useless, and they cannot cool the cabin because of their design features.

Only the fourth model presented - with a water evaporator, can still slightly improve the situation, but very slightly. But installed filter will have to be regularly cleaned from dust.

Note that the first three models are also useless as heaters. And all because it is not possible to heat the installed coil from the cigarette lighter well, and the devices will blow with slightly heated air.

The fifth model presented is really an air conditioner capable of cooling the air in the cabin, and it works from the on-board network. This is its main advantage.

Its main drawback is that it is not portable, and the main part of the air conditioner is located on the roof of the car. On a minibus, it looks like this:

Only the control unit and deflectors are put into the cabin, through which cooled air is supplied:

But if such equipment looks acceptable on trucks and minibuses, then on passenger cars everything will look out of place.

And to install such an air conditioner, if there is no hatch, you will have to make a hole of the required dimensions, that is, in fact, you will have to spoil the car body, and forever, therefore, not for everyone, installing such equipment is an acceptable option. In addition, the cost of such an air conditioner is significant.

So it turns out that the "air conditioners from the cigarette lighter" for passenger cars presented on the market are just publicity stunt, in reality, an effective device does not yet exist.

The available gadgets, except for the roof-mounted version, are simply plastic boxes with a simple filling, which will not bring any benefit if installed in a car.

A conventional fan will be more efficient due to bigger size blades and no housing - fewer elements will impede air movement.

How can you solve the problem yourself?

And yet - the problem of heat in the cabin remains relevant. The fan is an ineffective tool, but it is still better than the presented "car air conditioners".

Only a full-fledged air conditioner that uses a refrigerant can really provide coolness.

In this case, you can fight the heat only by equipping the car with a standard one, which is very expensive and you will have to make changes to the design, or purchasing a car with an air conditioner installed, which is even more expensive and not everyone has the funds for this.

But you can do it even easier - make your own "air conditioner" for a car, powered by a cigarette lighter.

There are several options for such equipment, some of them are very simple to make, others a little more difficult.

How to make a mobile air conditioner for a car

Option number 1.

The first one will be very simple. To make it you just need:

  • A container with a tight-fitting lid;
  • Fan powered by 12V network;
  • Elbow with a plastic pipe.

Then everything is very simple - we make two holes in the lid. In one of them we install and fix a fan, and in the second - a plastic elbow, which will play the role of a bell for the outlet of cooled air. The following structure should turn out:

That's it - the "air conditioner" is ready, but to cool the air you will need a refrigerant, the role of which will be ice. Before the trip, we put it in a container, cover it with a lid and put it in the car.

Everything works like this: the fan will pump air into the container, upon contact with ice, it will cool and go out into the cabin through the bell.

Such a "air conditioner" is very easy to manufacture, and the financial costs will be minimal, but its efficiency is also not high, and the operating time is insignificant until the ice melts and the water in the container does not heat up. But that's enough for a couple of hours.

Option number 2.

To make it you will need:

  • Portable;
  • Fans (you can use large coolers for 12V from the computer);
  • A radiator from a salon stove;
  • Pump (aquarium or from a glass washer system);
  • Wires;
  • Silicone tubes;
  • Cigarette lighter plug (can be taken from car charging phone).

Having all this, you can start assembling:

  1. At the bottom of the cooler bag, we fix the prepared pump and connect a silicone tube to its outlet. It is advisable to put a small strainer on the pump intake;
  2. In the lid of the bag we cut a hole according to the size of the prepared radiator;
  3. From the inside, we install a radiator into the slot and fix it;
  4. We place the fan outside. It can be one or several (for example, coolers from a computer), connected into a single structure. In this case, it is important to ensure that the air flow created by the fans is directed into the passenger compartment, and not into the bag;
  5. We connect the pump and radiator with a silicone tube. The second pipeline should be put on the radiator outlet and lowered to the bottom of the bag;
  6. We part the wiring. We connect the wires from the pump and fans and connect to the prepared plug. In this case, it is important not to confuse the polarity, otherwise the electrical appliances will work in the opposite direction.

As a result, you should get something like this equipment:

After assembly, you can slightly "refine" it, making it more presentable appearance.

Now about how everything works. Ice also acts as a refrigerant in such an "air conditioner" plain water... That is, we fall asleep a layer of ice on the bottom, and then add water, after which you can turn on the device.

In this case, the pump will start pumping chilled water, and the filter installed on the intake will prevent small ice particles from getting inside.

Water will begin to flow into the radiator, where heat exchange will take place, in which the air near the radiator will be cooled. It is he who will be supplied to the salon by the installed fans.

After passing through the radiator, the water will drain back to the bottom of the bag.

Since the walls of such a cooler bag are thermally insulating, the ice will not melt as quickly as in the first version of the "air conditioner", that is, it will be able to cool the air for a longer period. The presence of a radiator will provide improved heat transfer.

Additionally, such an "air conditioner" can be equipped with devices that allow changing the fan rotation speed, that is, making it possible to have several operating modes.

Advantages and disadvantages of homemade air conditioners

Such air conditioners can really provide coolness in the cabin, and they are not difficult to manufacture. But such equipment has enough disadvantages:

The design due to the use of a container is voluminous. That is, you will have to practically "sacrifice" one seat in the car;

With the onset of summer comes the heat, which becomes really unbearable on the road. Sitting in a traffic jam for many hours, when literally soars from the asphalt, is a nightmare for any car enthusiast. And if the built-in "air conditioner" is junk, then it's time to douse yourself with cold water and ice in order to somehow alleviate your condition.

Although a huge number of cigarette lighter gadgets have already been invented for cars, air conditioners for cars remain a mysterious and incomprehensible topic to many. On the market and on the Internet, you can find a bunch of different gadgets, called with a serious word - air conditioning. However, in order to understand if they have something in common with their favorite office oasis, let's figure out how these devices work.

How a car air conditioner works

The air conditioner installed in the car at the manufacturer's factory works on the same principle as office units. That is, it absorbs heat through the evaporator, cooling the interior of the car. In this case, the "exhaust" air is discharged into the environment (outside).

The air conditioner itself is a sealed system filled with freon and compressor oil. The oil reduces friction, partially removes particles released during operation and circulates in the air conditioning system.

Based on this, it becomes obvious that a car air conditioner can only be a unit that can utilize air to the street. And of course such a device cannot cost 3,000 - 5,000 rubles.

The Chinese air conditioner from the cigarette lighter to the car looks and functions more like a regular fan. Such a device does not cool the air, but only passes it in a circle, creating a light breeze. Manufacturers go for tricks and proudly call such products an automobile air conditioner of 12 volts, but in fact, in nature, such units are so far produced only for trucks. These oversized instruments, powered by a voltage of 24 V, cut into the roof of the cab and cost about 85,000 rubles.

Nevertheless, as the saying goes, "the pain of invention is cunning" and if you really need an analogue as close as possible to the air conditioner, then you can make such a device yourself.

How to make a mini air conditioner for a car with your own hands

You can make something similar to air conditioning in a car from a cigarette lighter yourself. To do this, you will need:

  • a new or old plastic refrigeration container (aka cooler bag);
  • the matching stove radiator;
  • several fans (you can buy the same as for computer video cards);
  • wires;
  • pump (you can take an aquarium or from a glass washer barrel);
  • old car Charger for a cell phone.

The pump must be fixed at the bottom of the cooler bag, and the wires from it must be brought out. On the inside, we make a square cutout with a diameter of the prepared radiator, and with outside cut out two round holes for the fans.

After that it is necessary:

  • Screw on the fans and wire them together.
  • Install on inner side cover the radiator by lowering its branch pipe down. To prevent it from falling off, you can additionally strengthen it with silicone.

Healthy! If there are piano hinges lying around in the garage, they can be used to connect the lid and the body of the container.

  • Connect the pump outlet to the radiator inlet on the cover. To keep water out of the way while driving, you can also attach a hose to the radiator outlet.
  • Route the wires to the old charger.
  • Ready.

This installation does not look the most presentable way, but it copes with its functions. Before connecting homemade unit to the cigarette lighter, it is necessary to pour ice into the container and fill it with water. As soon as the "air conditioner" turns on, the pump will begin to draw cold water from the container into the radiator, and the fans will blow the resulting cold air through the interior of the car.

The advantages of such a device are its environmental friendliness and low cost. If we talk about efficiency, then a home-made air conditioner can also boast of this. An hour later, when the ice melts, it is enough just to fill in a new portion and the unit will again saturate the hot car with coolness.

In custody

As you can see, unscrupulous Chinese manufacturers only confuse motorists by presenting ordinary fans that are not able to cool the air as full-fledged air conditioners operating from a 12V network. If you look closely at the control buttons on such gadgets, you will see that there is even close there is no question of cooling. Usually there are only "fan", "off" and "on" buttons. But air conditioners for trucks are not fiction, but real, expensive and difficult to install units.

Driving in a car without air conditioning in hot weather is unpleasant and undesirable for a number of reasons. Heat inside a car can not only cause overheating of the body, but also increase the risk of trouble on the road, since the driver loses attention when overheating. To this we can add that no one likes to sit in a hot car.

The problem of the air conditioner is especially acute for those situations, and when you have to stand in traffic jams for many hours, there is no oncoming air flow into an open window. Therefore, the home-made air conditioner on water, which is presented below, is quite simple in design and inventive idea, albeit low-power, but for some time it may be useful to you on the road for the car and its passengers.

Details on video slides

It functions on the use of ice, so it does not work for long, for about 1 hour. You can improve this refrigerator-air conditioner for a car using Peltier elements. Their effect is that when voltage is applied, one side of the element will be heated, and the opposite will be cooled. As a result, we can cool the water in the air conditioner. Therefore, it is worth considering improving the design below.

What do we need to make an air conditioner?

A plastic container, or, as it is otherwise called, a cooler bag. Small water pump powered by 12 volts. Suitable from the aquarium. Automotive stove radiator. Several pieces of wire. Pump connection pipes. A pair of fans. Dremel, silicone, piano hinges, cigarette lighter plug.

First action. We put the pump on a homemade air conditioner.

First, the pump needs to be reinforced, it must be installed at the bottom of the container. The wires from it must be removed to connect to a power source. In this case, 12 volt PC coolers are used as fans. They are placed in the cover of the device. Since it has two layers in plastic containers, you need to make a square hole from the inside in accordance with the dimensions of the coolers. On the reverse side, you need to make two holes with a dremel. The fans will draw air from the inside. Let's fix the cooler with its own screws.

Step 3. Install the radiator.

We will put it from the inside of the lid. The connections must point downwards. We use silicone to install the radiator. Alternatively, it can be planted on hot glue or epoxy.

Step 4. Finish creating the air conditioner.

For the convenience of the design of the lid and quick replacement you can use a piano loop. We connect the radiator to the pump with a hose. The outlet hose from the pump is connected to the radiator inlet. To avoid the sound of water, it is advisable to put a hose on the outlet pipe as well.

Next, we connect all the elements to the vehicle's on-board network. If coolers and pump require less than 12 volts to function, try using a cell phone charger. In the author's model, the source is 12 volt output through the cigarette lighter.

For the working state of a homemade simple air conditioner, ice is placed in a plastic container, water is added. When the power is on, the pump will pump cold water through the radiator. At the same time, coolers will remove cold air from the container into the cabin, cooling it down. Naturally, when the air conditioner is operating, all windows and doors of the passenger compartment must be closed.

It will be cool inside the car for at least one hour. For example, in a traffic jam, this air conditioner will be a salvation from the heat. There is another option that they sometimes want to do - (the link leads to an article about a device on Peltier), which is unlikely to be effective in a car.

About where to buy goods for cars at the lowest prices,.

Unfortunately, a significant part of the huge army of Russian motorists owns cars. And during the heat of summer, their suffering is difficult to describe in words. The problem is that most of these car owners simply do not have the money to buy a car air conditioner and correct installation... Or they consider it inappropriate to spend money on this - after all, there are so many temptations around! One way or another, they have to drive with all the windows open, experiencing the possibility of solar radiation to melt subcutaneous fat in the dense city traffic, and when driving at high speed they are exposed to drafts.

How to create a car air conditioner yourself.

They say that today even budget models are being equipped. Perhaps it will not be more than a decade before a car without an air conditioner will be perceived as utter nonsense. But for now vehicles without a climate system, roaming across the vastness of our vast homeland is a harsh reality, and the native auto industry is in no hurry to introduce Western standards. So, with the onset of heat, a multimillion-dollar armada of drivers is forced to come up with and test new ways to cool the red-hot iron, and among them only a few can boast more or less satisfactory results.

For real Kulibins, we have prepared a selection of the most common ways to try to make an air conditioner in a car with your own hands. You may find some of these constructs naive, some ridiculous, but they all work, albeit with varying degrees of effectiveness. Of course, it would be nice to get at least basic information about what air conditioning systems are, what they are, what tools and consumables will be required for technical creativity.

A bit of theory

At the moment, the classification of air conditioners by the method of cooling contains only two large categories:

  • compressor air conditioning systems;
  • evaporating devices.

Compressor air conditioners work on the principle of forced circulation through a closed sealed circuit of a special refrigerant, which, when it gets to the right place, cools it. But since the laws of physics say that if a substance (in this case, a gas) heats up in one place, then in another it must be cooled in order to be able to work continuously. Therefore, the design of compressor air conditioning systems is rather complicated, and the compressor itself is far from the only and not the most important component of them.

Assembling a compressor accumulator is not only a technical challenge. Here you need to take care of safety, since the refrigerant will circulate in the system under pressure, which in itself is dangerous. So, only the second option remains at the disposal of home craftsmen - evaporative devices. They are much simpler constructively, therefore, it is due to the evaporation of water that they form the basis of most home-made air conditioning systems.

What materials and tools will be required

What is required to design an existing one, spending an order of magnitude less money on it than buying a standard device:

  • a small plastic container (as a guide, you can call a cooler bag, and if you have an idle bag lying around somewhere on the balcony or attic, feel free to use it);
  • radiator car stove, for example, VAZ;
  • several computer fans, the dimensions of which must correspond to the volume of the capacity;
  • not very powerful bilge pump;
  • fasteners;
  • hoses / wires;
  • cigarette lighter plug.

If the car has an audio player with a USB port, the task is simplified. For this version of a homemade car air conditioner, even fewer parts are required:

  • small capacity (metal or plastic, even a two-liter beverage bottle will do);
  • computer fan (for example, for a power supply);
  • adhesive tape, several sheets of paper;
  • USB cable.

Finally, you can construct an air conditioner from an old non-working refrigerator (we only need its freezer). In this case, we need:

  • jigsaw;
  • several fans;
  • drainage tube (can be made of corrugated suitable diameter);
  • insulating material.

Which of the options to choose - decide based on what of the above is available, and what can be easily purchased at the nearest supermarket.

Making a car air conditioner with your own hands

Having chosen one of the proposed methods of making a homemade air conditioner for a car, strictly adhere to the assembly scheme - any deviation can turn a good idea into a farce.

Container method

The main component of such a homemade car air conditioner is a plastic container. We take two computer coolers, measure their diameter. On the top of the container, mark the places where you will need to cut two holes according to these dimensions. You can cut with a clerical knife with replaceable blades, a sharp knife or even scissors - it all depends on the thickness of the plastic. As a rule, computer fans have four holes for fastening, we use self-tapping screws or screws suitable size and we securely screw the coolers to the surface of our container (they can touch or stand apart, the main thing is that the fan blades look outward).

The second important task is attaching a plastic container to the stove radiator in the lid. This is also a fairly simple work that does not require any special skills - you just need to make holes around the perimeter and fix the radiator with bolts or screw connections. To separate the radiator, we use a piece of any plastic similar in size to the container lid.

The next step is to mount it to the bottom of the bilge pump container. We attach a hose to the pump inlet, the other end of which we put on one of the radiator pipes. If the upper part of the container does not have a lifting (hinged) lid, you need to provide this possibility by using a piano hinge - this design will be much more convenient, simplifying the operation of our cooling system. In this case, you need to try to make the lid as tight as possible, for example, using a special soft rubber gasket, installing it around the perimeter of the lid. This will avoid splashing water through a loose connection - do we want the interior to stay clean and dry?

The final step is to provide power to the pump and fans. To do this, their wires must be connected to wires car cigarette lighter(we hope you will take care of the safety of the connections by insulating them with electrical tape).

Everything, the air conditioner in the car with your own hands is ready. It remains to fill it with water and ice, and then simply connect the cigarette lighter to the standard socket. Note that it is not recommended to operate such a system when the engine is off - you run the risk of running down the battery. As for the effectiveness of such a system, you should not hope for a miracle, but a decrease in temperature by several degrees in the blowing area will be guaranteed to you. Where to replenish ice supplies on the way is a completely different story. At least at gas stations this consumable not yet offered.

Method using plastic bottles

This design is much easier to manufacture. And although it looks a little primitive, the effectiveness of such a homemade air conditioner will not be much less than that of the previous version. So, the first stage of our design activity is working with a bottle. Using a sharp knife or scissors, cut off the upper part of the container (approximately in the middle of the upper convex ring). We put the bottom aside, and we still need to work with the upper part: divide it into about two parts and cut it again. We get a watering can with a neck, as well as a small cylinder.

On the conical part of the watering can, it is necessary to make a series of holes around the perimeter, for which you can use either a sharp breakdown or a soldering iron. If there is neither one nor the other - any other cutting tool will do, at least a knife with a narrow blade. We do the same operation with the bottom of the bottle, namely, on the convex rim located near the bottom. By inserting the cone into the glass (lower part), we get the body of our air conditioner.

Now it's time to start installing the fan equipped with a USB connector. It needs to be inserted into the third part of the plastic bottle. Adhesive tape (popularly referred to as scotch tape) will help to securely fix it. The next step is to manufacture an analogue of the vehicle ventilation system deflector. To do this, we make a bell from thick paper by gluing the edges with the same adhesive tape and cutting off the bottom along the diameter of the upper edge of the bottle. This makeshift design will help direct the cool air flow to its destination (such as the driver).

The only thing left is to put several pieces of ice in the container (filling it at least halfway). We plug the connector into the car radio and enjoy the effect! If you have to long stay with the car engine off, in order not to drain the battery, you can use the Krone battery. Of course, such a structure is unlikely to withstand at least a month of use, but if you consider that our costs for assembling such a structure are almost zero - if you wish, you can always make another such auto-air conditioner.

Freezer method

Since we will be working with a metal container, it will take a little more effort, but the whole structure will look more solid and reliable. First you need to make a hole in the chamber door. To do this, use a jigsaw, cutting out a circle with a diameter of about 10 cm.

To ensure air access from the passenger compartment, it is necessary to remove the rubber seal from the underside of the door. We insert a drainage tube into the slot, carefully seal the rest of the space with a pre-prepared seal and foam, which will require very little. Now you need to attach two fans, one of which is designed to cool the compressor, and the other to extract the cooled air to the outside. Where to install the structure does not matter. The main thing is that it does not interfere with either the driver or passengers, and directs the cooled air to where it is needed. In principle, if you have free time and "straight" hands, nothing prevents you from making and trying all three options, choosing the most suitable one.

Of course, if you are absolutely not satisfied with the unsightly appearance of such a home-made air conditioning system, no one forbids mounting a universal (albeit non-standard) air conditioner. In this case, you will receive a solution that practically does not differ from the standard one (some dissonance can cause a difference between the control buttons of the device from the existing interior solution of the instrument panel). The only "but" - the cost of such a solution to the problem will be about 60 thousand rubles.

Therefore, the search for alternative ways to cool the car in hot weather does not stop, and craftsmen use any technical innovations to implement a more perfect, efficient and reliable design of an air conditioner made with their own hands from improvised means. It is believed that nice results can be obtained using a window air conditioner or its mobile equivalent in the car. The cost of such a solution is almost an order of magnitude less - about 10 thousand rubles, and if you already have such a working device at your disposal, then it will cost you almost free of charge.

The idea is to install such a monoblock air conditioner in the area rear seat, use a 220 - 12 V inverter to power it, and just stick out the corresponding branch pipe in the window to remove the heated air. However, in such reasoning, a rather unobvious error is hidden. It turns out that even the weakest air conditioner needs to consume about 1500 watts for normal operation. If at 220 volts this is, in principle, not a problem, then a 12-volt home-made air conditioner installed in the car will not be able to work due to the huge current consumption. Let's explain this by specific calculations.

Let's say an inverter provides minimal conversion losses. In this case, the on-board network will power the mono air conditioner with the voltage of the on-board network (14 V), and the current consumption will be 1500/12 = 107 A. To prevent the wiring from burning from such a current, it must be one and a half centimeters thick. But it should be noted that many generators do not even have such a high upper limit of current output. And the inverter must be designed to work with equipment of appropriate power (1.5 - 2 KW) - and this is very specific and expensive equipment, which to be found in free sale is a great success. So, of course, you can try, but provided that all the above problems are solved, which, frankly, is unrealistic.

Semiconductor air conditioner

Another idea walking on the net is a home-made air conditioner for a car on Peltier elements. The idea is that a semiconductor element of a sufficiently large area, when it is connected to the power supply, heats up on one side, and cools down by about the same degree on the other side. It is quite possible to purchase such plates, and their cost is not so high. By the way, mobile refrigerator boxes use exactly this principle. It would seem, what prevents to build on Peltier elements and an air conditioning system? Moreover, such a solution will be both inexpensive and practically silent, without the use of a compressor, evaporator, piping system, refrigerant and other attributes of a classic car air conditioner.

Unfortunately, the effectiveness of such a system will approach zero. The reason is quite trivial - insufficient surface area, which will give cold to the interior. You just won't feel the difference when the device is turned on and off. Unless you put your hand on the elements of the device. But there is another problem - difficulties with heat removal from the bottom of the semiconductor elements. You will not be able to solve the problem - even purely theoretically, the effect of such a device will be zero.

Perhaps the ideal technical solution would be to make a car roof from semiconductor wafers - in this case, the problem of heat removal is solved, and the cooling area will be sufficient to provide airflow to the passenger compartment. But there are other issues that need to be addressed - for example, temperature control. In any case, you are unlikely to dare to remove the roof of your car, and for some reason automakers are in no hurry to implement such an idea.

Summing up

Despite all the tricks, a self-made car air conditioner can only serve as a demonstration of your ingenuity and technical savvy. There is no need to talk about the effectiveness of such devices, otherwise millions domestic cars would have been refurbished long ago. Have you met such machines in your practice? So if you want to ride in comfort, without simulating air cooling in the cabin homemade devices, you cannot do without installing a classic compressor-type auto-air conditioner.

Technological progress does not stand still, the world is moving to hybrid and electric vehicles, and the design of the air conditioner has remained unchanged since the middle of the last century. Don't expect to be smarter or luckier than the hundreds of professionals working intensively on this problem. So all your efforts aimed at improving the design of a home-made air conditioning system and increasing its efficiency will sooner or later be successfully forgotten, and the device itself will take pride of place in the garage. At the end of the day, the cooling capacity of a conventional refrigerator box is likely to be higher than your homemade one.

  • a new or old plastic refrigeration container (aka cooler bag);
  • the matching stove radiator;
  • several fans (you can buy the same as for computer video cards);
  • wires;
  • pump (you can take an aquarium or from a glass washer barrel);
  • old cell phone car charger.

The pump must be fixed at the bottom of the cooler bag, and the wires from it must be brought out. On the inside we make a square cutout with a diameter of the prepared radiator, and on the outside we cut out two round holes for the fans.

After that it is necessary:

  • Screw on the fans and wire them together.
  • Install the radiator on the inner side of the cover by lowering its pipe down.

Before connecting the homemade unit to the cigarette lighter, ice must be poured into the container and filled with water.

Climate control system

Climate control systems are either included in standard equipment car, or it can be installed for a fee. Installing climate control on a car is a rather complicated and time-consuming operation in engineering terms.

In any case, it is better to entrust it to professional specialists in this field, otherwise you risk money and the comfort of driving your car - you never know what you will wise up there yourself.
Not all car models, even the most modern ones, are convenient for installing climate control, and what can we say about old models.

In definition climate control with automatic control included two fundamental concepts - we will call them "brains" and "iron".
The "iron" that is hidden under the hood - the condenser, compressor, connecting hoses, etc. - is part of any air conditioner from the entry level to the most advanced level. But we are interested in another "hardware" - which is under the torpedo block of the air conditioner heater.

Robot protection

It is there that warm air turns into cold air and vice versa. And the main difference between climatic devices different types precisely in the principles of control of this unit and in the design itself.

Drivers who use the climate control system are spared the need to constantly move the throttle levers - with climate control, all they need to do is set the temperature they want. The microprocessor device is guided by the incoming from different sensors information and independently automatically selects, installs and maintains desired mode temperature, no matter what is happening at that moment on the street.

It is also worth noting that the aforementioned microprocessor device would not be worth anything if it were not endowed with intelligence, that is, with an appropriate program - an algorithm that takes into account all the variety of familiar comfort conditions for different climatic conditions.

Of course, a complete automatic system should not imply human intervention, but it cannot exclude it either - if necessary, the driver can set the appropriate climate mode himself.

Assessment of a car owner named Nikodim: There are 5 main and 2 additional seats in the car under the rear row of seats, the ceiling of the cabin is high, so that it is more convenient to climb into the 3rd row, while the back of the passenger seat of the 1st row folds forward, the back of the 2nd row right side also folds forward, this is how a cargo area 2.8 meters long is formed. In this situation, 3 people rode on the left side plus a sofa: a base, two backs, two sidewalls, the right mirror of course was not visible. In short, I would call Zafira a summer resident's dream. forest for mushrooms c deep rut I do not advise because ground clearance under crankcase protection 12.5 cm.Frankly speaking, the car is sharpened for high-speed and comfortable driving on good roads, the maximum passport speed is 197 km, if possible I drive in places in the absence of photo greetings 160 km, while the handling is excellent.

Mini car air conditioner: is there any use in it

Should you install an air conditioner in your car?

Air conditioning in a car can be installed not only at the factory. This device can be additionally equipped with almost any machine. In this article, we will consider the pros and cons of such tuning, and also find out which cars can be equipped with an air conditioner.

Installation pros

The main purpose of the air conditioner is to cool the air in the passenger compartment. With its help, you can quickly and easily cool a car heated under the hot sun. The second action is to dehumidify the cabin air, which helps to effectively combat glass fogging, for example, during rain.

In many cases, additional installation of an air conditioner will be cheaper than purchasing a new car with this option.

And most importantly, this convenient system can be installed even in cars where it is not provided at all, for example, on the VAZ "classics".

Cons of installing an air conditioner

The air conditioner is a very complex system, consisting of many large and small elements. They are located both in the cabin and in the engine compartment, noticeably "eating up" the space. When the air conditioner is installed in an unsuitable vehicle, there is a risk of engine overheating due to overlapping free space Around him.

But the most important drawback, which will certainly appear when the air conditioner is turned on, is a drop in engine power. It is believed that a running compressor takes up to ten Horse power, which is especially critical for weak engines... In this case, it is better to turn off the air conditioner when going uphill and overtaking in the opposite lane.

Together with the drop in power, an increase in fuel consumption is observed.

Air conditioners for cars from the cigarette lighter in Krasnodar

On average, it increases by 0.5 - 0.8 liters per 100 kilometers. Another minor drawback will be the increased noise of the car due to the running compressor and the fan on the condenser.

Is air conditioning harmful to health?

It is believed that air conditioning in a car is a direct path to colds. This is partly true. But here everything depends on the correct use of this system. Many drivers turn on the air conditioner for a long time, which is why the air in the cabin gets very cold. When boarding a car on a hot summer day, a person is dressed in light clothes and from the temperature drop, he is likely to catch a cold. To avoid this, it is enough to use the air conditioner more carefully, without turning the interior of the car into an ice cave.

If it is difficult to constantly monitor the operation of the air conditioner, there is an option to install an automatic control unit. In this case, you get almost climate control. This device will control the activation of the air conditioner for you, maintaining the set temperature.

Another nuance of the air conditioner that affects human health is bacteria. During operation, moisture condenses on the evaporator (installed under the torpedo) and creates an ideal breeding ground for special microorganisms - Legionella. They are carried into the cabin by the air stream and can lead to the development of pneumonia in people. Especially vulnerable in this case are those with weak immunity, as well as the elderly and people who smoke.

To prevent the growth of bacteria inside the air conditioner, manufacturers use germicidal filters or an appropriate evaporator coating. You can also perform antiseptic treatment of the air conditioner. This service is provided in many car services, where the car air conditioner is refueled.

It is noteworthy that the treatment of the evaporator is not included in the scheduled maintenance work, which is carried out on new vehicles by the dealer. Thus, those wishing to take care of their health will have to pay additional work. As always, everything related to health is not cheap - cleaning the air conditioner is estimated at 2,500 - 3,000 rubles.

How is the air conditioner installed?

In most cases, installing an air conditioning system is a complex undertaking. Especially on machines that are not equipped for this. In each case, it is necessary to install a compressor on the car, its activation clutch, an evaporator, a condenser, connecting lines, electrical elements, and wiring. And also - to "make friends" all this with the standard interior heating system, since the air ducts are used the same.

In Russia, the most common car air conditioners made in Italy, Japan and Israel. The most popular brands are Alex Original, Autoclima and Unicla.

What kind of car is it installed on and how much does it cost?

As mentioned at the beginning of the article, you can put an air conditioner in almost any car. In car services, air conditioning systems are successfully installed in Niva, Volga, Zhiguli and, of course, foreign cars.

The cost depends on the level of complexity of the work and the class of the car. For example, work on installing an air conditioner on an average foreign car is estimated at $ 2,500. For a VAZ-2110 - 1,300, and for a Volga or Niva - $ 1,400.
