BEFORE THE FIRST KNOCK

The kilometers prescribed for processing have been passed - we are proceeding to the first part of the experiment: can a car drive without oil? If so, how long and how much will the miraculous additive help him in this? Before draining the oil, we warm up the engines to operating temperature, check the pressure, compression - everything, as befits new cars, ideally: oil - 4 kgf / cm2 at 3000 rpm, compression - 13 kgf / cm2.

As soon as the last drop flows out of the pallet of the control (untreated) "five", we start the engine for a minute in order to maintain the purity of the experiment. Now dry and in the oil filter. We are waiting for the remnants to drain from the walls of the block, screw the cork and repeat the ritual with the second car.

We get out of the city with extreme caution, the speed is 50-60 km / h, we turn off the engines at traffic lights just in case - it is not known how long they will last. Half an hour later, our caravan - two doomed "fives" and "Volga" - the emergency towing vehicle goes on course. The final point on the Novo-Rizhskoe highway has not yet been determined, we are going "to the first blood" - that is, until one of the engines knocks, and then everything depends on how soon it happens. The additive manufacturer claimed: if you drive "economically", without spinning the engine more than 2000 rpm and especially without loading, you will withstand up to Peter and back. Fresh tradition! For a start, we would have to overcome at least a dozen kilometers ...

In order not to miss the most interesting, he got behind the wheel of a control car. She, according to the promised scenario, should knock first. An experimental one is going two dozen meters ahead.

The speed is 70–80 km / h, both motors are working as if nothing had happened, except that the annoying red lamp on the dashboard does not let you forget that the crankcase is dry. The gas pedal of the "classics" is conceived a bit taut, but here it seems you can't push it at all - the engine does not want to fall victim to curiosity. I sit on pins and needles, listening to every rustle under the hood. Another half hour passes, 50 km are already behind, and the end of the road is not visible - the temperature is normal, the reaction of the engine to gas is adequate, extraneous noise no. And this is on a regular car, in the oil of which there were no additives! I will not bore the reader with the description of this trip: a miracle did not happen, at the 74th kilometer the engine began to slowly tap. First, under load, and after a hundred meters, and at gas discharge. The knock is distinct, connecting rod, it cannot be confused with anything. Without waiting for the "hand of friendship" - a broken crankcase, I turn off the engine. Out of the tube oil dipstick a light smoke rises ...

150 KM WITHOUT OIL

Meanwhile, the motor of the treated "five" seems to be in excellent condition - it does not smoke, does not heat up, does not emit extraneous noise, pulls well, and there is not even a smell of burnt oil from the dipstick tube. On the other hand, even a minute ago, the one that was already knocking worked just as well. Maybe an accident, and "charged" to live five kilometers left?

Be that as it may, the first result of the experiment has already been achieved - a serial "Zhiguli" engine without oil, contrary to the generally accepted opinion and, I confess, to my considerable surprise, is able to work for quite a long time, unless, of course, you demand from it full power... Therefore, by the way, the recommendation of some specialists to fill out oil filter when replacing it, it can be considered contrived. Nevertheless, you should not rely on the normal operation of the engine without oil - with or without an additive. Although ours covered 74 kilometers, this does not mean that anyone else will repeat this result. Firstly, there are no two absolutely identical motors - the tolerance fields for dimensions, hardness, cleanliness of parts processing can develop as you like, and secondly, a lot depends on the load on the motor. Who knows if our "five" is fully loaded, and the road is not so easy as it would have lasted? We needed a starting point.

But what to do with the "five", which received an injection of endurance - to continue moving to the bitter end? As a result, the engine will jam on it. "Suprotek" is not a Makropulos remedy, it does not promise eternal life. Its task is to protect friction pairs, optimize gaps and restore worn or damaged surfaces. And driving with a dry sump is nothing more than a demonstration of the capabilities of the new lubricant composition. In operation, such a mode, of course, is unacceptable. However, if the experiment is completed right now and oil is poured into the engine, we will not receive convincing confirmation of the drug's performance.

It was decided: the caravan is returning home, but the surviving "five" still goes without oil. Because of the repairs, the roads crawled in traffic for half an hour at a walking speed. Acceleration - braking, first gear, unsteady mode - an extra test for the motor. At least I could hold out, because our tug is already busy.

1: 0 IN USE OF THE ADDITIVE

The experimental "five" returned to the garage after dark, but most importantly - on its own! The next morning we start a thorough inspection of the engines. As expected, the connecting rod bushings of the second cylinder of the control motor are rolled into foil and squeezed out of the bed. The lower head turned blue, and when trying to remove its cover, both bolts broke. The connecting rod journal is lifted up so that the shaft is under replacement. Well, the result of oil starvation is natural. By the way, the motor got off with little blood- the main bearings, the cylinder-piston group and the camshaft were not damaged.

And how did the treated engine endure the "diet"? Fill in oil, start up - it works as if nothing had happened. We measure the compression, oil pressure - the results are no different from those obtained before the trip. We remove the pallet, open the main and connecting rod bearings - there are no signs of wear on the liners or on the shaft journals. And behind 150 kilometers without oil! It's good that before starting the experiment, I did not vow out loud to eat galoshes ...

Control measurements of friction pairs (main and connecting rod journals, camshaft, liners and pistons) differ from the initial ones by no more than the value of the measurement error. For the sake of fairness, we note that on the control engine, the surviving necks also did not leave the tolerance field, which, however, does not contradict the theory at all. When working without oil, wear develops like an avalanche and in a few seconds turns a new part into scrap metal. Hence, by the way, a warning: do not try to drive without oil unless absolutely necessary - you will not catch the moment when the "knock" starts, and at the first sign of it, the engine will need serious repairs. By the way, after this experiment we added Suprotek to the editorial top ten with a mileage of about 100,000 km.

So, after a few days on-board computer in the fuel consumption measurement mode showed that on idle consumption from the previous 1.0 l / h decreased to 0.9 l / h, which means that friction losses are slightly less. The experiment was repeated in laboratory conditions on an almost new Priora - under the same conditions, on the same fuel. The trend continued (see table) - the difference in the hourly fuel consumption in favor of the additive.

So what is the conclusion from the results of our experiment, working without oil - a miracle or a trick? Neither one nor the other is science!

Ahead is the continuation of the experiment. What is the effectiveness of an additive for reconditioning a worn out engine? Will it be able, as the manufacturer promises, to replace the overhaul, or, at least, to significantly postpone its deadline? By the way, "Suprotek" is not alone in this niche: "Forsan", "Ha-do", organometallic ceramics AG from Novosibirsk ... In a word, the topic is still far from being studied, controversial, and therefore curious. It is interesting to hear the opinion of specialists, scientists, experts. HOW SUPROTEK WORKS

According to the developers, the action of the composition is based on the ability of its active components to form special cellular structures on the friction surfaces that hold the lubricant. It is they who form the surface called the layer of the third body. In short, this mechanism works like this.

When microroughnesses in the friction zone collide, the thermophysical characteristics change at these points. Under the influence high pressures and temperatures on the surface of the parts, an ultrafine powder of iron carbide is formed - it removes contamination from the surface, and the mechanisms of selective adsorption build it up with a cellular structure. The clearer the surface, the more intensive the development is. "Clean" means - not oxidized, freshly sealed. That is, the composition itself finds weak spots and protects them. Ultimately, a self-healing layer with ultra-low shear resistance is formed on the surface.

DOPING CONTROL

What will laboratory tests of the additive show: will it harm other properties of the oil? To answer this question, we transferred to NATI samples of oils, on which both "fives" worked. We present the expert opinion.

The results of evaluating the effectiveness of the KS (lubricant composition) are shown in the table. It can be seen from it that when adding KS to idle oil, its detergent properties improved somewhat. In the absence of information on the composition of the CW, it can be assumed that it contains components that improve not only lubricating (tribological), but also antioxidant (detergent) properties. During operation, the detergent properties of the oil naturally decrease. The same applies to almost all indicators, which is also confirmed by the results of the tests carried out.

The addition of KS to the oil practically did not change its tribological characteristics, which were assessed using a CFM friction machine. All monitored parameters remained at the level of the reference sample. Obviously, under severe but short-term test conditions on a 4-ball friction machine, the expected antiwear effect of the KS additive is not realized. In the operating oil, a decrease in the value of the scuffing index and the welding load was found. It is possible that at some point the oil worked in extreme conditions, which led to the operation of the anti-wear additive. This is confirmed by the presence of a significant amount of wear products in the operating oil. An indirect confirmation of this assumption is a decrease in the colloidal stability of the operating oil with the addition of KS. At the same time, this indicator practically does not decrease with the addition of KS to fresh oil, which indicates its good compatibility with the additive package in the oil.

The dispersing properties of the oil indicate its ability to dissolve its own and extraneous oxidation products (carbon deposits, products of incomplete combustion of fuel). All tested samples have quite high level dispersing properties.

The results allow us to conclude that there is no negative effect of the Suprotek CS when it is added to the commercial oil.
